i saw vr for the 3rd time last night and they keep getting worse and worse. i left before the show was even over. they are the biggest bunch of fakes.....it just makes gnr sound that much better when a "supergroup" like vr just blows! and im a vr fan but they suck live.

Weiland doesn't have the range or stage presence of Axl.

I still like VR though.

Question, why the hell would you go for a 3rd time if you feel they sucked the first 2 times you saw them?

So you dont like them, and you think they suck live, but youve supposedly seen them 3 times.  ???  If you see them two more times, you can try convincing people you really dont dislike them, because I doubt anybody is buying your current "I like VR, but they suck" shtick.  It just seems like youre just seeking attention.

The left before the show was over?! Holy shit, I've never done that. Price of tickets alone. Was Scott taunting you from the stage and making you look bad or something? Calling you out? I just can't see splitting like that. Especially if you're a "fan" of the band. I mean I've been to bad shows before, never a bad GN'R or VR show mind you, but I've never actually got up and left.

Man, VR was the best show Ive Ever been too, and Ive seen GNR 4 times...........

I've seen VR 5 times and always came away impressed at how tight they are and how much energy theyprovide; it's a 90 minute adrenaline rush......not sure what the original poster is complsining about....

I don't care what anyone says, I think VR is a great live  act. I've seen them 3 times, and will see  them again and  again on the recent tour. Slash  alone  is worth the price of the ticket.

So you'd think 'I'm not going there again' right? But no..

You go to your second VR show...and hate it.

That's a stupid way of looking at it.  He says he is a fan of the band, so obviously he is going to give them a chance, all bands have off nights.  But if, after three nights, they still don't appeal to him as a live act, then fair enough.

I loved VR! Just saw them last week and the show absolutely rocked! 

I have to admit, when I first saw VR. they were ok live. not great.

alot of it had to do with the horrible sound in the venue for them though. very MUDDY.

yeah...I'm a a fan of VR's music and have caught a couple live shows..and thought they sucked both times..I never got a chance to see original GnR line up live and wanted to to see what the rhythm section sounded like..Guns got bashed alot back in the day for sounding great one night and shit the next and you can hear why when you see VR. at times i didn't know what slash was doing his rhythm and lead switching? is horrendous live ( on a off night ) and scott... :hihi: it's just bad. But maybe I just caught them on off nights. I saw Buckcherry ( imo not a great live band ) lastnight  and thought they were better than VR live

But they are, MCR is headlining and VR is opening....

An educated guess says MCR is more popular than VR in Europe, who cares?

It's hardly as if VR are billed as "support" or "special guest" to MCR on their own headlining tour, its a festival for cryin' out loud.

My Chemical Romance are teen rock! There's a whole bunch of teeny rockers into that type of music. VR are a different type of band, they're older vintage genuine rock musicians. Rock music isn't supposed to be perfect every time. Its loose and dirty and loud...like VR

Apart from the great melody lines and drama my attention is always caught by the boys in the background abosolutely hammering their gutiars. They play them sooo hard!
And the military uniforms don't look so bad either.

MCR are apart of a trend at the moment, they will die out soon.

I have been to 4-5 shows and each one I was at was pretty exciting.

I think some people just would rather not give them a chance because it's not Axl, nothing more.

I think fans of bth these bands are pretty shitty towards each other.  And that includes the owner of this forum.  I see at least 3-4 GNR fans that consistently come into this section just to talk shit.  That includes Jarmo, chineseblues, and estebanf.  No real input at all on the subjects, just insults and talking shit about this band.  Yeah, yeah, I know there are many that do the same in the GNR section, sometimes it's justified, sometimes not.

rock am ring was the first time i`ve seen VR and it`ll remain the only time....

as i`ve mentioned in the rock am ring thread, the performance was mostly bad, at times, as a gnr(slash/duff)fan, even embarrassing.

i`ll buy the album though. most of the new songs i`ve heard are quite good (quilmes soundboard...)

My excitation the weeks before the release of Contraband was huge, I was really happy to see my rock idols again on the road, and Slither, the first single, increased that excitation even more. I always wanted VR to be succesful, to make great records and I was dreaming with seeing VR live since 2003. I live in Argentina, I dont have all the chances you have to see Slash (you said you saw VR several times, well, not my case, I waited 4 years)

I really, REALLY dont want to see Axl with the VR bandmembers. I dont know why you say ''just because it's not Axl there''. If there is ONE thing in this world that could put an end to my GNR fanatism is a reunion. I am saying this just to show you how wrong you are about ''just because its not Axl there''. estebanf, there is an abundance of negative energy on these boards.  We are fans of this band, we like being psyched up about the new material.  We like sharing memories of the concerts, discussing favorite segments of new songs.  All the shit i have to wade through on these boards is really disheartening. I saw VR at PNC Bank arts center in 2005 and I thought it was awesome. I had bought the album the day after it was released and I didnt like it until after I saw them. Apparently they were "on" that night.

I saw them a second time this year at Starland Ballroom and I was dissapointed for sure. The new songs sound great and I cant wait to hear the new record, but the band was kind of sub par. I had fun, but sometimes I was bored. The first 4 songs were great, but after that the show kinda went downhill.

And I can get that maybe one show was bad cos slash or scott or something might have been having an off night...but 3 times....i would have thought if you hate them live 3 times its cos you hate the songs....so why do you like the record? Just doesn't make sence to me, but each to their own.

My experience is kinda the opposite. I like the VR records...but I find that live the songs are a shit load more interesting, especially Slash's parts...he really rips into them live. And i'm talking about being there in person with his marshall stack ripping your balls off...not downloading a stream in 50kb that misses most of the sound ;)

I think VR are one of the most impressive live bands around. But each to his own.

I can kind of see where the OP is coming from.  I am a huge fan of the Matthew Good Band and Matthew Good's solo stuff.  He came to Thunder Bay a few weeks ago and I was beyond pumped to see him live.  But...he sucked.  I was so disappointed and I felt like walking out.  That being said...I may give him another chance if he comes this way again, but if he did and I went and that show sucked as well...well I don't see myself going to a third show to complain about.
