Title: Scott Weiland- 12 Bar Blues (1998 solo album)
Post by: GeraldFord on May 21, 2007, 11:24:37 PM
I bought 12 Bar Blues nine years ago and have always loved this CD. I actually think it's the best thing Weiland has ever done, and I say that as a massive fan of both STP and VR. Imagine throwing Bowie, Costello, Watts, Reznor and Reed into a blender, and 12 Bar Blues is what you end up with.

An amazing album.

I agree - this was a personal soundtrack of mine back in 1998 - people used to call me weiland for my wild antics back in the day - anyway I saw scott solo twice live during this time - the shows were mesmerizing for the fact that weiland was like a wild animal let out of the cage - The tour was quickly abrupted due to an arrest - I saw STP in 1996 and 2000 - VR twice in clubs before contraband - scott solo was by far 20 times better than those shows - the band was raw and weiland was able to show his true retro colors that his other bands are/ were holding him back on - I am extremely looking forward to see what the 2nd album sounds like - fuck VR - duff should go solo again with dave, matt back to the cult, slash back to blues ball with teddy for a while, scott solo - or at the very least give izzy and duff a chance at lead vocals

thats my opinion and i'm stickin to it

'Where's The Man' is the best song on the album hands down. I am a huge Scott/STP fan myself and that is why I bought the album when it got released but it's definately not everyones cup of tea, infact I have played it for a few of my friends who have written it off as 'Artsy Noise'. I enjoy a lot of the songs but the album doesnt hold a candle to STP's stronger material and to me the best song Scott has ever been a part of is STP's 'Atlanta', you should buy that off iTunes if you haven't heard it, it is simply beautiful. It saddens me that Scott will never record material like this with VR, I am really looking forward to see what he comes up with for his 2nd solo outing.

Mockingbird Girl

Good picks, though Id probably place "Barbarella" over "Mockingbird Girl."  The Magnificent Bastards rendition of the latter is at least as good.

I dont enjoy the album as much as I first did, but its a decent effort.  "Lazy Divey," which was left off of the American album, is a good rarity.

This is a very good album indeed, and underrated?

Desperation no. 5!
Barbarella....man they all rock.

I think this by far has always been Weiland's defining work.  I'm not a fan of his work with VR....but this and Shangri La-Di-Da have always been the gems for me.  Also for anyone else looking for tracks from this time period he did......get the Depeche Mode cover of "But Not Tonight"  from the Not Another Teen Movie soundtrack.....really kickass version of the song.  He also covered Lennon's "How Do You Sleep?" which is okay, but not worthwhile.

I'd have to say Desperation #5, and About Nothing.  Those are the two I always play.  I think it is a good album too.

Lazy Divey is an awesome song, possibly one of his best. I was bummed because it was on the advance copy of the album and left off the final pressing. I'm guessing because it was influenced by the Beatles to the point of plagarism.

I have always been a huge STP fan but I gotta say I really never liked this album. The only song I ever dug was "Lady, your roof brings me down". Got some great strings on it. Other than that I think I read someone say their friends all called it "Artsy noise" which I would have to agree with.
