Title: GNR Pinball Machine
Post by: Slashisthebest on February 20, 2005, 01:14:57 AM
I finally found one. Played it.  Wasnt in great shape but was still tight as hell.  They have it at Kenmore Lanes in WA.  It was so sweet I walked in to the Video game part of a bowling alley the other day and saw it in the corner of my I, damn it was sweet.  I loved the pistol which launches the ball, HA!

Lucky. The only place I've seen it is Ebay. And if I had $2,000, I would have it in my living room.

I have one in my bedroom, and it's in great shape! I only paid like ? 1000 for it, but that was 5 years ago. There are some other members of this board that have the pinball machine.

I played it in Benidorm, Spain, in a a bar called HeartBraker. Right beside the pimbal machine there was a poster of Axl and a guitar sign by Slash.

That was a great bar.

I honestly don't remember....I do remember there was a thread on the subject back in January of '03 (from reviewing some PM's on the subject) and I went into detail about where to find it, and how to make it work.  But, given that was 2 years ago....I don't remember a bit of it.  I went back through my post history, and can't find the posts there, either (which may mean it was "purged" when the board switched over)....

OK, I found it. I updated some of the links but Pilferk gets all the credits for the rest of the tutorial.

Here's what you need :

Visual Pinball
http://www.vpforums.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads
You'll need to register to the message board

PinMAME
http://pinmame.retrogames.com/downloads.html
I have the version 1.30, but I guess a more recent one will work just as well.

VBS scripts (and that only):
http://www.arcadeathome.com/pinball.phtml?h

The game rom :
http://emu.makii.pl/vp/flipery.php3?nazwa=Guns%20N%20Roses
It might ask you for a login / password, but nevermind. Click on cancel.

1) Now, you've got everything you need. Here's what I did. I unzipped the Visual Pinball Zip file into a new folder, and ran the setup. This installs the program.

2)I then unzipped the PinMAME file into IT'S own seperate folder, and installed it. During the setup process, you'll get a screen with a WHOLE list of "paths" (you know, C:\Downloads\Pinmame\). You want to change the ROMS path to the Tables subfolder underneath the main Visual Pinball folder (wherever you chose to install that...for me, the path was C:\Program Files\Visual Pinball\Tables It will probably be similar if you use the default install for Visual Pinball in step 1).

3) Unzip the vbs script zip file into that same Tables Folder.

4) Unzip BOTH GnR Rom zip files into the SAME Tables Folder.

5) Create a new folder within the Tables Folder, called gnr_300.

6) Copy the following files from the Tables Folder INTO the GnR folder you just created:
G&ru17.snd
G&ru21.snd
G&ru36.snd
G&ru37.snd
G&ru7.snd
Gnrcpua.300
Gnrdispa.300

7) Within the GnR folder, rename all the G&ru**.snd files (where ** is the number) to Gnru**.snd. In other words, rename G&ru17.snd to Gnru17.snd, rename G&ru21.snd to Gnru21.snd, and so on.

All the work is done. Load up Visual Pinball (Start, Programs, Visual Pinball, Visual Pinball Beta). Click File and Open. You should see a list of 3 tables (Tutorial, Top Speed, and Guns n Roses). Click on Guns and Roses, and click open. That will load the table into "Construction Mode". Click the play button and you should be all set. The 2 shift keys are the flippers, the enter key is the ball shot, I think 5 is "insert coin" and I know 1 is the start button. 7 puts the board into diagnostic mode, but I can't figure out how to get out of that without quitting out of the board. Esc will pause and let you quit out (by selecting return to editor).

Have fun !

Hi,

I followed the posted instructions, but when I start to load the game with Visual Pinball Norton Antivirus gives me a "Malicious script detected" alert and says my computer is halted due to VPinball.exe.  So far I've only stopped the script as recommended by Norton.   What's going on and is it safe to continue?  Thanks to anyone that can explain this.  I'm dying to play the game but I don't want to risk a trojan.

The local amusement arcade used to have one of these GN'R Pinball Machines about 10 years ago, i played it afew times, it was pretty good, although not as playable as the Tommy Pinball Machine which seemed to do a lot more  :)

Got the same message from Norton the first time I ran it in XP and I just let it run the script.  I've had no problems.  That being said, my copies of the files are now something like 2 years old....so I can't vouch for the current versions being "clean"....though I rather suspect they're fine.

And Pandora, thanks for reposting my tutorial!! I didn't remember a lick of it!

I didn't find it, FYI....just figured out how to make it work (and Pandora kindly reposted/updated my old tutorial).  If I remember correctly, another poster found the board and couldn't make it work (and I have no memory of who that was).  I figured out HOW to get it to work, with some research and futzing, and posted the tutorial back in January of '03.

The audio is, from what I can tell, direct digitization of the actual board audio, probably taken from a board ROM.  The graphics are pretty good, too.  My only complaint is, sometimes, the ball gets "stuck"....

If you downloaded, extracted and successfully installed the files you should have a folder on your C: drive named "pinballpack" open that folder and doubleclick on "VPLauncher.exe" to start the program (you may also want to make a shortcut to your desktop for this item).
Once you have launched the program you should have a screen with a list of available tables on the left, double click on the "GUNS N' ROSES" file to launch it.

That's the thing, there isn't a .exe file. All files are non executable with weird extensions.  ::)

Yes you need both. I had to download the pinballpack.zip from emule because when I tried to download it from the web page it kept finishing about have way through( if using emule make sure you get the one that is 18.54MB )

Extract the Guns table to your C: drive(same as pinballpack). Then launch VPLauncher.exe from the folder C:pinballpack and the Guns table should be in the left hand column.

ahh screw this it won't work, all I get is "No table found"

thats what im getting

You have to have the pinball program installed in C:\ (followed by the default directory that the setup creates)only.. You cant have it in program files or your D:\ if you have one or anything else, just simply in the C:\.

Also, you might have to go to configuration and add the guns n roses machine directory to the list.

erh I've downloaded pinballpack and installed it after that i've downloaded the guns table, what do I do now?

Extract the Guns table to your C: drive(same as pinballpack). Then launch VPLauncher.exe from the folder C:pinballpack and the Guns table should be in the left hand column.

Yea I know - that bit got me. I also fucked up because I realised that after installing it and simply moved the directory to the C:\. I realised later that you have to reinstall the whole thing.

Bit of a bitch to get working but once it does its good fun!

There was a thread about it last year, with Pilferk's tutorial :

I didn't check whether the links were still valid, though.

First off, I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this so mods, feel free to move it.

You can download and play the real GNR pinball online by going to http://www.pinballsim.com/viewtables.php?sortby=lastupdated

Get the download info for the program at http://www.pinballsim.com/

I could get the game to load but I couldn't get it to play.  If anyone here can get the game to play please post here on how you did it.  This looks pretty cool though.

You have to press 5 to insert coins and get credits. After that you push start by pressing 1. Enter to shoot the ball and shift right and left for the flippers.

Pinmame is a pretty cool program - you can actually play just about any modern pinball machine game on pinmame - you think of the game and it's usually on there.

I've got the GN'R pin at home and it rocks!!!  Everyone that comes round for a few beers and to watch the footy end up spending most of their time playing that!

Pandora - I didn't know you had a GN'R pin as well, why no pics of it on your website?  BTW if you ever need a replacement Axl or Starburst plastic I have these.
