Title: Gn'R to do a stadium tour in Brazil and South America (almost confirmed)
Post by: Bruno Poeys on April 27, 2007, 05:36:10 AM
user GALLAGHER ROSE posted that at mygnr.
he has 2,344 posts.
he is there since 17-July 03

here's what he said:

I had a conversation with a big brazilian promoter last night in a Copacabana bar,and he said me 2 things..
There are three big sponsors almost confirming 4 big stadium concerts in Brazil. The concerts will be placed in Rio de Janeiro (Maracan? Stadium),S?o Paulo (Morumbi Stadium),Belo Horizonte (Mineir?o stadium) and Porto Alegre (Beira Rio Stadium).
The other thing is that the band will probably going to play in Argentina and Chile, but it's still not confirmed.
Good news for us south americans.

Maracana = 100.000 people.
Morumbi = 80.000 people.
Mineirao = like 90.000 people (not sure).
Beira Rio = like... 60.000+ people.

not sure about stadium capacity nowadays.  Voodoo can confirm that. :P

Even I like the idea, it is pretty hard to believe that they can actually sell out these stadiums!??! However Brazil loves GnR!!

Beira Rio Stadium, Porto Alegre; capacity about 56000 + for football matches
(http://www.internacional.com.br/imagens/conteudo/beiraRIO_edit.jpg)

Maracana Stadium, Rio de Janeiro; Botafogo; capacity about 100.000 for football matches (concerts up to 180.000!!!!!!!!!)

Morumbi Stadium, Sao Paolo; Morumbi; capacity about 75.000 for football matches
(http://www.pinheiros.com.br/city/morumbi/images/estadiotop.jpg)

Minerao Stadium, Belo Horizonte; capacity about 72.000 for football matches

I don't know if a brazilian stadium tour would sell out, but I have no doubt that it will have a very good number of tickets sold.

But maybe it would sell out, depends of who are those 3 big sponsors the guy talked about...maybe Skol(beer), Terra(website) and Oi(Telephone company)? I don't know...

Wow! If this is true then it is amazing.

It is amazing how GN'R are playing huge arenas in Australia and selling them out. Two shows at Acer Arena in Sydney! Some other unnamed band I know, that I went to see a couple of years back now couldn't sell out two nights at the old Hordern Pavillian building - 5000 capacity  : ok:

Wow, that "Morumbi" stadium looks awesome, lol, just kidding

I'm pretty sure the shows will sell out even if they are stadium shows, maybe not all of them but Rio and S?o Paulo are very likely to sell out

I dunno about the credibility in this one. Yeah, we all know we'll have a Brazilian tour at some point and that it will be in stadiums, nothing really new. But this guy forgot about the Amazonia gig, which I think it's something Axl really wanted to do.

But maybe it would sell out, depends of who are those 3 big sponsors the guy talked about...maybe Skol(beer), Terra(website) and Oi(Telephone company)? I don't know...
Oi? I don't think so, this kind of shit has a lot more support from Tim or Claro.

There's only one way to sell out all of those shows: a powerful single on the biggest radios, one that could instantly gather thousands and thousands of new fans. And maybe some good promo on tv too... ...if there will be a single rolling.

They should play Manaus in Brasil like the White Stripes did for that MTV special.

There is an opera house in the middle of the Amazon Jungle that was simply the coolest venue I have ever seen.

The Bogota shows were incredible in 1992, they should definitely go back.

That would be awesome, Brazil has the biggest (''o mais grande do mundo''  :hihi: ) and most beautiful stadiums in the world. I would LOVE to attend to a GNR show at the Mineirao or the mythical Maracan?.

About Argentina, after attending to the Quilmes Rock Festival 2 weeks ago, I know FOR SURE that Guns N' Roses can (and will do it, if they choose that venue) sell out the River Plate Stadium (60.000). If the band drops a blockbuster rocking single BEFORE the southamerican leg of the tour, they should consider doing two dates.

Damn, I can imagine myself drinking several Caipirinhas in Rio, surrounded by beautiful female cariocas gunners, before attending the best show of my life

Well, I'm from Brazil. Despite the 4 mentioned Brazilian stadiums capacity, the reality of a great concert in Brazil is far from a 100.000 people for a pay concert. We can work with 40.000 or 50.000 in Rio and S?o Paulo. No more than that, picking by the last big concerts Brazil has held. Like Roger Waters: about 40.000, and Aerosmith with the same number.

Of course GNR is big in Brazil, but only if they added a free concert, like, at Copacabana Beach, then we would easily have a 400.000 crowd. And even for that 40.000 crowd, the album must got out 1st, Brazilian media is ruled by fucking radio singles. :-\

Yeah, definitely. Maybe the majority of the european stadiums are more modern and safer than brazilians, but I will pick all my life to attend a show at the Maracana, Morumbi or Mineirao, instead attending a show in, for example, stadiums like Old Trafford, Stade De France or that big stadium in Munich.

About a World Cup, I dont know. I think brazil is lacking lots of things needed for a World Cup, but not the stadiums...

well, backstreet boys had 100.000 people at their concert. Sandy & Junior, around 90.000. both in maracana. they're pop, i know, but Gn'R have a lot of fans in brazil. really, a lot. the problems are ticket prices... aerosmith = R$ 160 (around U$ 80) and R$ 200 (around U$ 100), right? Where did aerosmith play? I forgot, lol. Gn'R has much more fans in brazil than aerosmith... muuuuuuch more. some Gn'R fans went there to see VR, true, but with Gn'R a lot of other fans would go there. By a lot I do mean 60.000 people... lol. we could have 100.000 people easily, if promoter knows how to promote a Guns N' Roses show. Oh, yeah, not to forget ticket prices.

they'll eventually come to brazil. dunno if they'll do a stadium tour, but they'll come for sure. And those shows can sell-out pretty fast, if promoters know how to promote lol. And if ticket prices aren't that expensive...

GN'R hasn't played a proper tour in South America since 1992-1993.

I don't think it would be totally impossible to at least play one or a few stadium shows there.

Guns n' roses (the name) is too devaluated here in South America. why?, the answer is evident

Axl lost his credibility long time ago. by that I am so pessimist about that exeggerated number

Anyway, if Axl will come here, I'll be in the show to enjoy his music as usual...

Yes, in Bogot? we deserve something like Rits 88 or having our own Hammerstein Ballroom.

Well, I'm from Brazil. Despite the 4 mentioned Brazilian stadiums capacity, the reality of a great concert in Brazil is far from a 100.000 people for a pay concert. We can work with 40.000 or 50.000 in Rio and S?o Paulo.
I'm sure the Porto Alegre and Manaus gig would be sold out, or close to it. It's a huge country, don't think as if it's only Rio and SP.

No more than that, picking by the last big concerts Brazil has held. Like Roger Waters: about 40.000, and Aerosmith with the same number.
Same? What are you talkin' about? Aerosmith had 65.000. And the promotion was quite poor for a gig like that. Keep in mind that GNR is far more popular than Waters or Aerosmith here, as far as I know.

Of course GNR is big in Brazil, but only if they added a free concert, like, at Copacabana Beach, then we would easily have a 400.000 crowd. And even for that 40.000 crowd, the album must got out 1st, Brazilian media is ruled by fucking radio singles. :-\
I didn't get it if you're talkin about 400 or 40k.

Anyways, I don't think a Copacabana gig would be a good idea. GN'R is not that pop, they would be too hard for the casual fans who only knows NR and SCOM. Also, it would be really bad for the fans - I prefer to pay in a Rio gig than to have to take the risk to go to this free concert there.

Well, by the news I read, on globo.com, terra and whiplash, they were saying that Aerosmith gig didn't sell out., I heard numbers going from 40k to 50k... I think that Pink Floyd is far popular than GNR in Brazil, and by accepting that Roger is Pink Floyd... ::)

On that point you're totally right, going to a Copacabana free concert is very risky! :hihi: I think people go to a free concert just to get out, they don't care about who's playing, Rolling Stones is an example...

About the numbers: 400.000= four hundred thousand, 40.000=forty thousand

From globo.com:

"Com 65 mil ingressos colocados ? venda, mais de 60 mil entradas haviam sido vendidas."

I don't think so. Pink Floyd is an older band. You don't hear them much on the radio. Also, it's not as popular with the non-fans. There's still a lot of people who reminds of GNR on TV, radio and everywhere.

Hum.. I guess I know the numbers. ::)

Nevermind.

Yeah, I think it's difficult to get to a conclusion, we would have to know the album sales of Pink Floyd and GNR, and that's impossible in Brazil...

That number stuff was a joke! :)
