Sharon Tendler met Cindy 15 years ago. She said it was love at first sight. This week she finally took the plunge and proposed. The lucky "guy" plunged right back.

In a modest ceremony at Dolphin Reef in the southern Israeli port of Eilat, Tendler, a 41-year-old British citizen, apparently became the world's first person to "marry" a dolphin.

Dressed in a white dress, a veil and pink flowers in her hair, Tendler got down on one knee on the dock and gave Cindy a kiss. And a piece of herring.

"It's not a perverted thing. I do love this dolphin. He's the love of my life," she said Saturday, upon her return to London.

Tendler, who said she imports clothes and promotes rock bands in England, has visited Israel several times a year since first meeting the dolphin.

When asked in the past if she had a boyfriend, she would always reply, "No. I'm going to end up with Cindy." On Wednesday, she made it official, sort of. While she acknowledged the "wedding" had no legal bearing she did say it reflected her deep feelings toward the bottlenosed, 35-year-old object of her affection.

"It's not a bad thing. It just something that we did because I love him, but not in the way that you love a man. It's just a pure love that I have for this animal," she said.

While she still kept open the option of "marrying human" at some stage, she said for now she was strictly a "one-dolphin woman".

She's hardly the jealous type, though.

"He will still play with all the other girls there," she said, of their prenuptial agreement. "I hope he has a lot of baby dolphins with the other dolphins. The more dolphins the better."

Animals show affection all the time. - I imagine dolphins do more than most cause they're so intelligent.  If he didn't like her he'd definately let her know.  Still, the concept of marriage is alien to it, which is why it's all very silly.

I don't think it's a question of morality.? The animal will most probably enjoy being touched and appreciate the affection because the animal knows no better - it follows its instincts blindly.? If you start jacking off a dog it won't be revolted, it'll do what its dick tells it to do and it'll love you for it.? A human should be able to appreciate that their thought process is far more complicated than that of a dog - the two species have not achieved any kind of understanding no matter how much the person likes to imagine they have.? A person resorting to the unconditional love of an animal will almost certainly have some issues reguarding self esteem and social skills; I would imagine their need for dependency mirrors closely the mindset of the feeder who renders their partner helpless in order to feel needed.? I have no evidence for this - it's just a hunch.

And yes, I know the counter argument: it's just an unorthadox lifestyle and if nobody is hurt then there's no problem.? Maybe that's actually true, but it's still NASTY.  Also, maybe i'm not as liberal as I used to think I was.  People probably talked like this about homosexuals in ye olde times.  There is a difference though.  Damn, now i'm arguing the other side.

The reason I went back to saying it's NASTY is because that is, in effect, my point.? Like you said, for nearly everyone being attracted to other humans a matter of instinct - other good instincts include running from danger, not killing people, not drinking your own urine, etc..? Instincts tend to be there for a reason and, though people do sometimes deviate from them, it is an unhealthy habit and almost always implies a difficiency in the person.? The natural world, which we are very much a part of, is all about instinct.? Bestiality isn't natural.

The problem here is that you want to talk about morality and I don't.? I'm not sure there's anything especially immoral about bestiality - It probably won't send you to hell and I don't think it's especially cruel on the animal (although I don't know, it might be).? People will do what they want to do and i'm not telling anyone that they're not allowed to touch cows - i'm not the police and i'm not gonna stop them.? All i'm saying is that it really is NASTY.? I mean - eugh! :P

well, I think a big point is that a dog follows her master/pack leader etc. Every once in a while there's stories in the news were someone has made a dog attack someone and a dog doesn't question, some dogs don't atleast.

Another sad example is that I haven't heard that a dog would bite the hand that feeds it even if she's abused.

So if there's some sick man out there having sex with a dog the dog would just take it, for in the "wild" the alpha-male gets to do that, no questions asked.

Another example; it is said the dogs inteligence is about the same as a three year old, now if there'd be an adult girl just happened to have some clitch in her brain that her inteligence is the same as of a three year old, wouldn't I just be taking advantage of her predicament?
