Title: How long will the World Tour last?
Post by: smugolo on April 15, 2007, 12:34:47 PM
so gn'r have started announcing dates for the next world tour

do you think axl is planning another epic 'use your illusion' style tour, with multiple legs spanning a couple of years?

i think to pull off a tour of significant length, the album has to drop, especially if they plan on returning to europe/america

Mr. I fall down go boom, you mean? LMAO, get Pitman!

I doubt this tour will span multiple years. Maybe the rest of 2007, but I really doubt years. We saw what happened after the 3 year Illusion tour, and I don't want it happening again.

In 2006, from May 12th to December 20th, the band played 72 shows. Not including the two surprise acoustic shows.

Three shows were canceled on the North American tour.

Anybody who thinks they can't play about 70 shows this year because it's already April don't know their recent GN'R history.  :P

The good news I guess is that with 70 dates supposedly being planned it must mean we are getting the album at some point, because there are not 70 places left to play that they can go hit up again without having an album out. Australia, Japan and South Africa were among the last big markets they hadn't hit yet, so unless they are planning on playing in Siberia it might be a good sign that those newer dates we don't know yet would be in markets they are starting to go back to that will require the album being released.

Well let's assume it might be something like this.

South Africa: two shows
Japan: five shows
Australia: five shows
New Zealand: one show

13-15shows in Oceania/Asia/Africa (just in case they add in Thailand or something)

Most likely...

Argentina: two shows
Brasil: three shows
Chile: two shows
Colombia: one show
Mexico: three shows

10-12 shows in South America/Mexico

And hopefully, some of those Asian, South American, and South African shows will be broadcast on TV!

Hmmm.... I think Axl's getting on a bit to be touring like he was in his twenties again.

Well, he's only 45, so it's not that bad. But then again, he did do a lot of drugs in his time...well, as long as he doesn't drop dead.

Axl is in very good shape.

I believe that is the plan, yes. Axl said in an interview in 2002 that they would be touring the world off and on, much like with the Illusion tour.

That is possible, he did say something along the lines of them touring for a few months, going back, touring again for a few months, and that this will continue for at least a couple of years. Can anyone dig up the actual quote? 8)

Never mind, I found it myself :smoking:

Quote from Axl from their press release before launching the 2002 tour:

"This thing is starting now and much like Use Your Illusions that went for two and a half years, this thing is going to go off and on for the next two or three years and we?ll see how it goes. We?re really looking forward to seeing all the different people in the different countries and this is a great opportunity.?

I didn't know that this was said.

I'd be curious to read it also.

20-25 shows in the us

Aren't we forgetting Canada, where most, if not all the shows were sold out?

Definitely could happen--if CD is out. Touring for another two years on the same material seems a bit of a stretch.

Personally I always thought of Axl/GnR along the lines of Billy Joel. That is, he could never release another album and tour off his old material until the end of time and do just fine.

Axl is pulling material basically from 3 albums though. Billy Joel has dozens to draw from. Basically, the set list would remain the same unless he decides to add Illusions stuff. If he wants to tour a while, fine, that's great. But eventually a new CD has to be released to sustain the momentum.

To me, it is irrelevant how many albums he had prior. My point is that I feel that his (their) material is strong enough, that he could (hypothetically) tour on that alone for years (In fact he already has really.)

I have to say that I agree with you "SLCPUNK"!

This new material is strong enough!

If they are planning on a major tour covering the world.. something needs to come out at some point, preferrably sooner the better.. especially someplace like Australia where i am.. the news of the shows has been met with glee because general fans think it is the original lineup doing a reunion tour.. apart from a paragraph or two on ticketek's website, people don't know it's a completely new band.. and on top of that.. alot of people, especially ones who i have spoken to, think they are touring because the album has come out.. i'm not quite sure what the response is going to be.. especially since australian press haven't given out much information about the status of the band and the album.. as i said there are little tidbits here and there.. but the average GNR fan, or even old GNR fan might not know this..

Not that i give a shit, I have complete faith as i have said before, that they will be blown away from the show.. but you'd be amazing the comments i've got from people when talking about the GNR shows..

Remember also this is Australia here.. other side of the world.. unless they are into the internet and forums like this, people don't even realise GNR still exist, original band or not

The CD tour is in its 5th year now, what is another 2 years?

I agree there has been significant touring since early 2000.. but at this point, people are slowly being to grasp on the identity of the new band, having heard the new songs, demo leaks on radio etc.. and they are heading out on a bigger world tour.. for christ's sake they're coming to australia now.. they're taking big steps.. i hope at this point.. or at least in the near future before this part of the tour gets too far in.. that we will start to see some steps towards the album.. but i just take it as it comes. hope you understand where im getting at.

I hope there are at least 50 shows before anything bad might happen...You can decide what that might be!

Has there been any rumor as to when they are scheduled to return to North America.

If they're scheduled to return ?
