I think it's better for them and their identity as a band. They should focus on Velvet Revolver's material.

Oh that's fucking lame.  Slash and Duff helped write those songs they can play whatever the fuck they want.

Dude ... they're just not gonna play the songs coz VR now has a credible amount of material ... They wont NEED to play the old songs !

This is a good thing.  They don't need to play old material.  Even tho NO one can pull off the GnR songs like Slash, I would rather they focus on thier own material :)

Good shit :)

I like this. Velver Revolver is Velvet Revolver, they aren't "Guns N' Roes B.Side". This can take the title of "ex-gunners" off.
Besides, we don't have to hear Scott singing GNR songs anymore ;)

I am a little bummed because I enjoyed hearing those songs, but on the flip side it says just how far this band has come that they were able to gain their own identity not have to rely on things they did 20 years ago. Establishing a new brand name is tough enough, but given their involvement in other popular bands and the fact that most of them are on the wrong side of 40, it says alot about how big a step it really is for them to not have to play other peoples material anymore.

??? What was your problem with VR playing old GnR songs in their set? I always enjoyed them. All the original members play old GnR songs in their current acts. VR played a lot less old songs then the likes of Guns N' Roses, Hookers n' Blow, Adler's Appetite etc., in spite of having more original members than anyone so can't really see the problem with it. There also now the first to totally concentrate on their current bands material, except Izzy.

This is cool tho. I loved hearing It's So Easy Mr Brownstone and Used To Love Her in Dublin but they were always just songs to fill the gaps because of the shortage of VR material. It shows their confidence in their new material that they can drop those songs and concentrate on their own stuff. Hopefully, Guns N' Roses will follow suit. : ok:

Guns N' Roses should and will play Guns N' Roses songs, always.    anyways i'm not gonna start a huge thing in this thread, I just think this is cool.

'Tis a shame, always seemed to get the crowd going in bits. But esp with the new Gn'R back touring its not as if Mr. Brownstone, It's So Easy and Used To Love Her are completely gone. I agree its cool half of the UYI GN'R playing it, but its time for VR to concentrate on new stuff. Sure covers will slip out the woodwork ever few gigs or so anyway for variety.

i think this is really good for them.. leave the old shit behind them.. if they don't wanna be compared to gnr why play gnr songs? now they don't and well to me it's almost like a new band lol, the song let it roll sound cool even if you can barely hear it, libertad will kick contrabands ass, but it wont be no chinese democracy :-X ( :hihi:)

Although I loved the way they played the GN'R songs, this move tells that they've moved on. Have enough material to do a show and they are not interested in playing 20 year old songs.

Yeah, but they might play older songs such as "Wish You Were Here".

He only mentioned GN'R and STP, not Pink Floyd.  :hihi:

They are not a cover band that's living off its long time gone past.  : ok:  BTW I'd happier if they'd drop the PF cover, too.

IMO VR had their own identity on their first tour....sure loadsa people went to see most of the "old line up" whi9ch i have to admit i did...and they were just amazing they were themselfs not trying to be GNR again....also i think scott did a great job on the GNR songs...ill even go far as to say he sang them better than axl did in the 01-02 tour just my opinion....dont hurt me lol

This news marks a smart move for VR, but only if their new material holds up.
VR have the talent, I sure hope they Boom and don't Bust.

The VR site is looking cool at the moment:

Velvet Revolver begins a short North American tour May 3 in Los Angeles, and European festival dates are on tap through early July. McKagan says fans can expect songs from its members' old bands (Guns N' Roses, Stone Temple Pilots) to crop up occasionally, but less frequently than in Velvet Revolver's early days, when it barely had enough originals to play a headlining set.

"I don't know whether we'll do it the whole tour or once in awhile," he says. "But I know people like to hear them and sometimes we really like to play them. It's songs we wrote, so why not?"

I could do without VR's version of Brownstone, but ISE was great and the crowd went wild. I hope they keep that tune and do it at least once in a while.

I guess this is a good thing, because it separates VR more from Guns, which would be better for a GN'R reunion down the track. We'll just see if if the new VR songs from Libertad stand well in their place.

A more balanced answer, than just no GNR or STP.

Give the fans what they want.

From Velvetrevolver.com

A fan review of the April 27th show...

Show was freaking awesome!! The Q&A could have used better questions, but it gave the fans a chance to interact with the band in a way that is probably impossible in a regular concert setting! The guys were answering everyone?s questions, even from people just shouting them out. A guy to my left asked Scott if it was true that they were gonna stop playing STP and GN?R songs?Scott said no! That it?s a rumor! The band was just really awesome, very friendly to all the fans, one lucky girl with a ?Matt I want some drumsticks? sign got what she came for, people in the first couple of rows got some hand shakes at the end..it was just great!!!! The new songs are really hard rocking! I loved ?Last Fight!? The band just seems truly connected now! All in all, the band was great to the fans, and the experience was definitely a once in a lifetime deal! Thanks for making it happen!
