Title: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: misterbrownstone on April 08, 2007, 08:41:14 PM Quote (message for GnR fans) Been playin' an instrumental guitar version of "Don't Cry" as part of my solo spot in GnR shows for almost a year, around 70 shows, 23 countries.? Will probably change it in the future, unless there's a big demand by audiences to keep playin' it. For my own curiosity, about my solo spot, I wanna hear from DMFs that have gone to shows, wanna know what you're thinkin'... 1 - How many shows you've been to and where 2 - Instrumental Don't Cry - keep it or ditch it? 3 - what other instrumental version of a song would ya dig hearin' in future solo spots (and singin' along with - it's for *you*, don't wanna do it without y'all being part of it...) DISCLAIMER - this is NOT on behalf of GnR, this is just about me and my guitar and what I'm doing with it, there are NO encrypted messages in this post regarding the album release, tour dates, how many T's in band members' last names, anything like that, OK?!?!? OK!!?!?!!!!!!!! Y'all can be a real pain in my balls sometimes.? And I bet ya like that, you sadistic downloading fuckers. Start a thread somewhere called "I Wanna Be Bumble's Sex Slave" or "I Illegally Downloaded All Of Bumble's CDs And Now He's Stuck Driving An Old Fucked Up Hyundai", give your two cents, and post a link to those threads here on my forum so I can check it - thanks. http://www.bumblefoot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2734 And please stick to the topic - don't further break my balls turning those threads into "I like [some other guitar player] more than [some other guitar player] because [some other guitar player] played [some other song] better than [some other guitar player] on [some bootleg video on YouTube] - thaaaaaanks. post away! and STAY ON TOPIC! Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: MotherGooseLuvR on April 08, 2007, 08:49:54 PM I went to four shows last year between Vegas and the greater LA area.
Don't Cry is probably the perfect song for him to solo.? It's the only popular GNR song that they don't play, and the one casual fans would be most able to sing along with. That or Civil War. Though personally, I'd love to hear what he could do with "My World."? It's a cool song, but honestly, it could have used more guitars. I love how BBF has to give a disclaimer that when he's talking to fans, he's not representing his band.? Just him and his guitar playing.? That's cool in that "new" GNR way. I can't imagine another band's guitarist having to say things like that in interviews. I'm glad BBF's got the patience and respect for his fans to continue to deal with it. Most the band's other members just shun it alltogether, understandably. Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: Bill 213 on April 08, 2007, 08:56:12 PM I wish he would start playing the "Alt Lyrics" version of Don't Cry. ?Instrumentally I imagine it being so much better than the original. ?
Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: DunkinDave on April 08, 2007, 08:58:09 PM "Civil War" or "You Ain't The First" would be great.
Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: Jim Bob on April 08, 2007, 08:59:28 PM Bumblefoot, I went to 4 shows last year. One of the first of the tour, the vegas shows, and the very last in LA. Its amazing how you found your place in the band over the course of 2006, good stuff. Don't Cry is awesome, but I think changing it up would be a welcome change.
Maybe a small medley of some of your own stuff (especially stuff from Hands and Uncool). The grinch theme was fuckin sweet when you did that in LA. Sing dude, you have a kickass voice! If you want to do another GNR song, I'd go for Civil War. I thought maybe Estranged, but its way too long. Those two songs are really the only true "classic" gnr songs that isn't already in the set. Yesterdays could be cool to, and appropiate Smiley Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: netrix on April 08, 2007, 09:02:43 PM Thanks bumblefoot!
I would like to hear your twist on Ciivil War! Are far as illegally download your material, ?I have heard you take on this from your recent interview online. Have you ever thought of setting up a paypal tip account. For those who have downloaded your stuff and have enjoyed the new discovery of your music (I am pleading the fifth here), ?a paypal tip account would be a good way to reward you directly and bypass the record company mfcking leeches from getting any of it. I sure would contribute. ?Just a thought! Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: nyd on April 08, 2007, 09:14:57 PM I'd like to hear Ron play a song from his solo material. A nice way to introduce GNR fans to each members other projects, and show why they were invited to join GNR in the first place.
Robin could kick out a Nails tune and Tommy surely remembers how to play "Kiss Me On The Butt"? ;D Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: downzy56 on April 08, 2007, 09:15:29 PM 1 - How many shows you've been to and where
Last year: 5. NYC (Hammerstein); Paris, France (Bercy); Toronto (ACC); Ottawa (Scotiabank); Quebec City (Pepsi Coliseum) 2 - Instrumental Don't Cry - keep it or ditch it? Keep it, but shorten it. Maybe two verses, one chorus, and the final chorus. I found that it was amazing singing along, but eventually, kind of dragged. A condensed version would go a long way in keeping the show going. 3 - what other instrumental version of a song would ya dig hearin' in future solo spots (and singin' along with - it's for *you*, don't wanna do it without y'all being part of it...) Something that is recognizable. While listening to someone shred is cool, when a band has three different guitar solos it gets boring by the time the 3rd guitarist plays something most people have never heard before. Slash's Godfarther theme, and Buckethead's Star War themes were pretty cool as they're easily identifiable. Maybe an instrumental version of a Beatles song (Hey Jude would be great as it would great everyone singing); that or Imagine by Lennon. A James Bond/Mission Impossible jam would kick ass. I say ditch it, keep things fresh 3 - what other instrumental version of a song would ya dig hearin' in future solo spots? well depends on if the album is out yet or not, if it's not out I say play a small instrumental of an unknown song that will be on the album. Seriously though, I say an instrumental of Civil War would kick ass or even a medley of a few songs from B-foot's albums Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) a crap load 2 - Instrumental Don't Cry - keep it or ditch it? Keep it unless the below can be worked out 3 - what other instrumental version of a song would ya dig hearin' in future solo spots? Civil War. But unfortunately, I think Axl will bring this into the new set list because a certain "Jr." has us in the middle of one. With that said though, a perfect place in the set list for the full Civil War would be at the end of your solo of it.... so you do "Civil War" like you do "Don't Cry," but it ends up turning into the real song. I would very much like to hear you apply your talents to Estranged. Don't Cry is a nice song, but I think Estranged also has a VERY recognisable melody, and would be a good sing along song. Alternatively, if you want a song EVERYONE can sing to, maybe you would have to pick something from another band, maybe Black Dog (Zep), Highway To Hell (AC/DC) or ANYTHING from Aerosmith - Rocks, but in particular Rats in the Cellar or Nobody's Fault. I'm sure there's loads of other material I haven't thought of that'd be good as well Thanks for listening Marcus Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) 2) Maybe shorten it a bit. You should also try and guage the audience. At Inland Invasion most people were pretty lame and tired.. so noody really wanted to hear a 4 min solo Don't Cry. But at the other LA shows it was pretty cool. 3) How bout Prostitute? Heh. Oh wait... can't sing along to that. Kidding Ron! Uhhh.. I would like to hear Locomotive or Pretty Tied Up for your solo spot (not the whole song though).. but maybe people couldn't sing along to that eh? Civil War is cool with me! Do the first half of estranged up to say, the 3 and a half minute-mark (or more if you have the time!)- would sound awesome with just guitar. Listening to it now - beautiful guitar playing! Or maybe Double Talkin' Jive - i'd love to hear you're take on the spanish-style electric solo at the end. Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) I'd rather hear the main riff and solo from Estranged. The intro to Get in the Ring would sound cool too. You don't have to play the same solo at every single gig. Mix it up a little and keep people guessing.

I went your first show with GNR in NYC last year then I saw you again here in Detroit last November. I enjoyed Don't Cry at the Detroit show and I liked your regular jam at Hammerstein as well. If I had to vote on a song to change your solo to, I'd say the Lies version of "You're Crazy". P.S. I saw Nuno Bettencourt play Madagascar MUCH better then you on You Tube. :hihi: Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: redx on April 09, 2007, 11:09:19 AM Been playin' an instrumental guitar version of "Don't Cry" as part of my solo spot in GnR shows for almost a year, around 70 shows, 23 countries. Will probably change it in the future, unless there's a big demand by audiences to keep playin' it.
How about dropping all the old music and playing only the new sounds from Chinese Democracy. Chinese Democracy is after all the music that the current line up created and stands for ;) Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) I keep Dont Cry for sure. Its a good song for instrumental because most of the fans recognize it, and the lyrics are pretty easy (even if its just people saying "dont you cry tonight" over and over again, which is what I've noticed hahaha). i think civil war would be a good one. Most people here really want to hear that played live, but thats probably not going to happen. the opening would be cool to include in your solo. P.S. thanks for being accessible to the fans. I know for a fact its kept some fans hopes alive being able to hear from a band member. Otherwise we would be pretty much in the dark minus del james. All the best. edit: i change my vote after reading thru the board. yesterdays, for the love of crap! yesterdays! Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Estranged is my fav GNR song and the song that got me into GNR so an instrumental version of that would be cool. BUt it is such a long and complex song and the piano is so integral to that song I dont think a guitar only instrumental can do it justice. Maybe you can hook up with Pittman and do a shortened version. That would be cool. Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) I loved when you played Dont Cry, keep it, maybe axl could sing with you. And Estranged is an awesome song, but I guess it would be strange maybe to play it solo. 2 - it's great, but may be time to retire it if you have something better 3 - Coma. I think the vocal line is melodic enough for guitar, and the riff is huge and iconic. I love estranged and civil war, like everyone else, but I think Coma would make a better guitar/singalong thing. Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: Mike McKagan on April 09, 2007, 06:01:37 PM Bumble,
I saw you at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon last December.? It rocked. I think the "Don't Cry" solo should stay, because it's just got the perfect groove for a solo at a GN'R concert.? I also love watching the audience slowly figure out what's happening.? If you had to switch it up, I'd say go for some deep cuts from the UYI albums.? Maybe even put a few together.? "Don't Damn Me" has never been performed live by GN'R, and that's a crime considering how fat and juicy that riff is. "The Garden" could also offer up an awful lot of groovy solo opportunities. PS - When you guys played in Portland, you gave us "Madagascar" for the finale, but no "Paradise City."? Care to fill the faithful in on why that happened?? I don't think there have been many shows where "Paradise City" didn't bring the curtain down... Title: Re: i illegally download BBF cds and now he has a bad car! (read!!!) Post by: mega_music on April 09, 2007, 07:06:33 PM I was at Cleveland in 2006, and I feel as if Dont Cry needs to stay just play a little of the song, and mix in some other GnR classics that get over looked at the shows. I would also like if Bumble would add more of his own material into the solos and just step up each night and just play whatever comes to his head.

2 - Instrumental Don't Cry - I think you should retire it for at least this year. 3 - I think you should do an instrumental medley featuring some GNR songs and perhaps some non GNR just to keep things fresh. For example: You Ain't the First, Civil War, Don't Damn Me could work in some kind of medley and with a sweet outtro of Double Talkin' JIVE!!! Some other songs you can throw in to keep things interesting are perhaps something from Kiss and Van Halen and AC/DC. you've done so much for GNR fans, thank you and keep up the rocking this year and beyond!
