Title: 'NUGNR'
Post by: Wooody on April 04, 2007, 03:33:25 AM
can't you tweek the words so that everytime someone posts 'nugnr' it comes out 'new gnr' ?

 :hihi:

I fuckin hate the 'nu' element as it is insultive and meant to be insultive when used

 :P

agreed.  the only people who use it are people who dont like the band.

Maybe we should call the old lineup "Ol'GN'R" and the current lineup "GN'R". Some GN'R fans get their panties in a bunch over the slightest things.  ::)

the "Nu" shit is LAME.  "New" isn't so bad but still this band is Guns N' Roses, has been for a long long time.  The old one used to be but hasn't been for a long long time, so yes, your idea makes more sense.   Old GnR or Original Lineup, and Guns N' Roses or Current Lineup.

Guns N' Roses is what is in present day, being we live in the present, not in the past.

its not about being old or new that bothers me, 'nu' is a reference to nu-metal which basically means that gnr has become nu-metal and we all know that nu-metal is the worst musical movement ever and the most hated. You could very well replace 'nu' by crappy.... they are synonyms ,

'Crappygnr` is what I read when I see 'Nugnr'

When you see new , it is only a reference of a time line, it might not exactly be new cause its been forever since the guys are in the band but with a lack of an album Icant blame people for sayint New GNr, plus it is new to people who have not seen them or heard of them untill the last couple of years.

'Crappygnr` is what I read when I see 'Nugnr'

and anyone who would use the word 'Nugnr' uses it to basically express that sentiment.   its annoying no doubt.

NuGnR, New GnR eh whats the dif really? i never understood it....i use the term myself but i dont consider myself a hater, just faster to type.

I gotta agree with Genesis on this one....is it really that big of deal?

haha i also call Madagascar Maddy from time to time....i know that upsets people too, for whatever reason ::)

They should have 'nugnr' and 'newgnr' censored to come out as gnr, which is what it is.

just gets confusing for some cuz they dont know what version you are talking about

I call them New GnR and Orig GnR...unless i get lazy then I type "NU"...i mean no disrespect though :peace:

Yes, and I've got to disagree with both of you. "Nu" is by default a derisive term, and even if you don't understand that, at least understand that others... er... do :P

what if one likes nu metal? i was a fan of bands that fell in that category....not really an offensive term to me...besides better has some aspects of nu metal in it IMO...that really heavy part in the middle :P seriously chill out

what if one likes nu metal?

No one cares whether you like it or not. The point is that objectively speaking, the term has a negative ring to it, and that's a fact.

seriously chill out

Mmmkay ::)

haha i still dont see how its negative....anyway since JimBob and i have talk a bit more in the past year i use it far less out of respect for him....jsut saying that when I do say it, its not meant to be a negative term....Axl is my favorite frontman of all time just like most of the rest of the members here :peace:

haha it wasnt meant like that

You are an exception and you use it without meaning to be insultive precisely because you don't understand tht it is an insult... but that doesnt take away the fact that  it is still an insult.....do you follow?

Ill give you an example..

there was a story about gnr on blabbermouth and someone posted:

'nugnr'

That's it, that's all he posted... I replied and said; cmon don't call it gnr ; call it new gnr....and the same poster replied again saying...'nugnr'.

trust me...its an insult.

Title: Re: 'NUGNR'

so basically you were baited and you fell for it...now whoever did that prolly got a chuckle out of it and will try and do something similar in the future...i understand that some of you guys get upset at the nugnr term...but really is it worth the bother of even caring.

thats really what i'm getting at...and trust me there are more people than me that just type nugnr just to refer to the new band instead of typing "The New GnR" (even Axl himself called it that last year)

same as prolly and probably....anyway i usually type New GnR these days and i'll try to keep doing that out of respect :hihi:

and i know that there is only one gnr in the world and that gnr conisists of Axl, Robin, Tommy, Fortus, BBF, frank, dizzy and pitman....but when many discussions are about different eras then a differentation needs to be made somehow imo :peace:

i guess we can call it 06GnR :-\

Yeah, we understand that, but why is it a big deal? It's only offensive when you want to take offense. Like anybody should care if some idiot on the Internet calls GN'R, "NuGN'R".

I cant understand why it is so hard to call a band by it's name... ???

Damn, why discussing if we should call the band ''NewGNR'' or ''NuGNR'' if none of them is its real name?  ???

Guns N' Roses for me.

Okay. I like Guns N' Roses more than Guns N' Roses. You see now why it is necessary to put "new" before it sometimes?

I think nuGN'R is a lame way to express this but it certainly not shouldn't be censored. When you begin systematicly censoring words you don't like you've gone over the top..

I prefer AC/DC with Brian Johnson than with Bon Scott.

I like Ozzy Osbourne's era much more than Dio's.

I prefer the current GNR lineup than any of the previous.

There are lots of ways to make the comparison without degrading the legendary name ''Guns N' Roses''.

I do not use ''old'' or ''nu'' and I've never had problems communicating my feelings.

why not put "old" or "original" in front of one of them instead, since we live in the present day and it would make sense to refer to something that is now as it is, and something that used to be as old.

Okay, well I use them. I think that's the quickest way to separate these two era's and not an insult against anyone. It's the same as with current and previous, just quicker.

Edit: JimBob, because if I say GN'R people asume I'm talking about the original line-up. The people who associate "Guns N' Roses" with the new line-up is a minority. It's only to avoid confussion : ok:

not on a GNR board its not a minority.   All of the people here or on any GNR board would understand theres old GNR and GnR.

If you were talking to a casual fan who didn't know what was going on, you'd have a point, but this is hardcore fans who follow the band and know the deal.

Well this is a GnR forum...there isnt much talk about different years so much with VH or Sabbath or AC/DC

and besides all those bands are so far removed from the Nu term

Nu Sabbath just sounds bad :hihi:

but you got Dio Years and Roth VanHalen I'm sure the hardcores of those bands have their own way to distinguish

Maybe we should call them "Slash n Roses" and "Finck n Roses" :hihi: or FGnR and SGnR infact maybe i will do jsut that

because its kinda disrespectful to the guys in the band now.  the name of the band is the name of the band.    is it not?

its like people who don't like Metallica calling them "Selloutica".    NuGnR is just lame.

the old gnr is gone.   if you buy guns n roses tickets in 2007, who are you going to see?    Its not disrespectful to call it what it is, the old gnr.

however new gnr is better than NuGnR and I can understand why you would use that.

Yes, yes, yes! Of course I don't use it in context where it isn't needed (well, most likely I have a few times but those are more because of unconcern (or for provoking :hihi: reasons ) and it shouldn't be used.
