Title: Countdown to Japan!!!!
Post by: RoCoKiN on April 02, 2007, 04:30:44 PM
So we are less than two weeks until Guns hit the "Land of the Rising Sun" So what should we expect in the next couple of weeks and will the Japan shows bring anything new?  BTW do we have alot of board members going to these shows to give updates?  Should we expect a video or album announcement before the 14th?  It is reminiscent of the Hammerstein shows a year ago when we were waiting to see what would be new!! Will Axl start referring to the new songs as "...this is off of Chinese Democracy which will be out in ______..."  The 3rd wave of GN'R begins April 14th...hold on to your freaking seats!!!!

I'm excited and sad at the same time.  Never would I have thought last May that we still would not have the album.  That sucks.  However, I always love when these guys are touring because it is more exciting around here.  I still would rather have the cd.  This is getting a little old waiting and waiting and waiting..................

I don't think he will say the album release date at the show. This is something huge, wouldn't be just for a bunch of people rather than all over the place, with press releases and all that thing.

I honestly don't think they will have something that new in this tour, maybe an old song or two, like Perfect Crime. But that doesn't make me less happy about the fact that they are on the road again, rockin' all over the world. :)

I wouldn't get your hopes up too much.  I wouldn't expect any NEW songs, or any album release dates.  It would be nice, but we didn't get anything earth shattering their last time out so why should this time be any different?  Just enjoy the fact that they're out playing live shows.

why would you or wouldn't you think Axl would drop the release date at a upcoming show? I think he would hell i watched the VMA's cause i thought he was gonna say something about the album. I sat threw 2 1/2 hours of pure shit music waiting for Axl, needless to say i was a little disapointed. Hopefully thing time round will be different. Most likely not but i'm still hoping

No new setlist for this tour, as per the recent http://maximumthreshold.podomatic.com/ interview.  Also, the record is still being mixed, no idea when it's coming out.

Well there you have it folks.  Guess we can stop THAT speculation now.  Pretty much the same setlist at places they haven't toured yet.  Makes sense.

I have been thinking about this upcoming tour, and there is something that makes me a little curious. First, this is the first tour for this version of the band that is not called the Chinese Democracy tour, which if the album is finally going to come out, makes no sense to me. When the tour starts in Japan if the setlist looks pretty much the same as it has been since 2001 then I would guess that wait for the album is going to continue on. If the setlist consists of more new songs and less appetite songs then I think that we mighj be on to something, but for some reason, I feel like it is going to be more of the same.

The name of the tour doesn't matter really (although the 'Chinese Democracy tour' was probably one of the longest tours ever in R'n'R history: 2001 - 2006). The 'Skin and Bones tour', 'Get In The Ring tour', 'Use Your Illusion tour' all supported the UYI albums.
What if the new songs Better, IRS, TWAT or CITR hadn't leaked? I guess the 2006 tour would have had the same setlist as the 2002 tour. So let's hope we get some new leaks in the next few weeks!!!

Did it sound same each time?
You might have but the audience over there haven't seen them play like now.
They are touring for the people who are seeing the shows you're not going.

So your post  basically says their entertaining other people is boring and pointless. Isn't it a bit too egocentric?

As other boarders have said, if someone had told me last May that we still wouldnt have an album after 77 dates in 2006, then I would have told them they would be mistaken, but after all this is Guns N Roses. Relatively speaking we've done well as the band is still touring and its keeping itself in the public eye which is really a good thing. What we should see though, before the 14th at least, is a handful more dates to add to those in Japan and South Africa so the train can begin moving again. Even if that means a European jaunt in November, with a gap between the end of May and the beginning of August to finish the album, I dont really care as long as the band play the shows.

At the moment, the best thing this band can do are play shows, as the more they play the closer we come to the album being released.

No, I am saying that it is dumb that they are going to tour for the 3rd time with no cd. ?It is boring that they are doing the same setlist even if it is for diff. people that haven't seen them. ?I bet those people, in Asia, have gone on to youtube or something else and already seen them play these songs. ?Let's see something new. ?Lets have some news. ?Lets see some progress. ?

By the way, this is a dumb discussion as well. ?I'm done.

In 1991 they varied quite a bit: Breakdown, Locomotive, Coma, Estranged, Dead Horse, You Ain't The First, etc. even though they were not played often, have been played a few times.

True but it was also after the album was released. I just don't see them changing the setlist too much even after CD's released.

You're right about one thing, I'm not gonna point out what..... Hint: It's in the last paragraph.

Watching Youtube clips makes you bored of going to the actual shows?

Wow!

Going to concerts must be cheap for you. You don't even need to buy a DVD, you can just watch clips on Youtube for free....  :hihi:

If anyone's been to a jap show , whatever the setlist is, its always a great place to see G n R . The crowd really gets into it which is so fun. As far as audience participation the known tunes are better.

I've gotta agree there.  You can't possibly compare watching clips on youtube to actually seeing a concert LIVE.  That's ridiculous.  I'm sure the fans in Japan/Australia will be more than happy to see GNR in their countries for the first time in 14+ years play the "classics" and a handful of "new" songs.  I know it's frustrating waiting and waiting and waiting for the album, but there's nothing we can do to make things go any faster.  So enjoy the fact that the band is out there in the spotlight touring the world.  Isn't that better than 1994-2000 when we heard NOTHING?

Why bitch about the setlis on a tour you're not seeing?  Oh yeah, I bet all those Japanese fans are sitting there, thinking "Damn!  It's the same set as all those shows in Europe and North America that I didn't go to!"

escpecially when the complainers dont even see em live,
Im australain ,and would would go see them even if it ment a 5 hour drive!

f@cking dedication for you,
so you b!tches complaining about the setlist, even though the songs they play at the show (old songs esp) are some of the best songs
you will ever here live, along with the pirotechnics and 2 1/2 hour setlist..,
what next, whinging that water at concerts is 3 bucks a bottle?
get over yourselfs!

I don't understand why everyone complains about setlists.... I've seen gnr 4 times and I would much rather see a concert with all of thier hits like jungle, sweet child, ycbm, pc, kohd, nightrain, nr, etc, etc....with 5 or 6 new songs, than a concert full of new songs without all thier hits. If I go to a concert I want to hear the best songs...I don't care if they're 20 years old...If you want to listen to new songs listen to the cd...when it comes out. 5 or 6 new songs is plenty!!

I'd love to see concerts full of new songs with no or several old songs as well.
I want to see both. Actually any setlist the band wants us to enjoy at the show is great.  :D
I bet those people, in Asia, have gone on to youtube or something else and already seen them play these songs.

I bet the people who think yourtube is good enough don't bother going to a concert. why would they?
They probably don't even understand why a band should tour and people see it when there's youtube.

and some nuts :P will fly more than 20 hours to see them live for the nth time since last year, I bet.

JeffK, nice post.
My best laugh came with the fellow who's content to watch YouTube for his live GNR fix.  I guess next time we can all meet for a YouTube simulcast and we can chat because that's like the same thing, right?   :hihi:

I drove 6 hours (12 round-trip) to see GNR in Boston in '02, and 3 hours (6 hours round-trip) to NYC and NJ for 2 shows in '06, and it still wasn't enough!  In '06 I got to meet a ton of great GNR fans.  Nice people.  All the folks I met were just fantastic people...except for those skanks in Jersey who made off with my bro-in-law's camera!   >:(

On topic: seriously, when is the last time GNR toured Japan?  Australia??  South Africa???
Give me a break.  The classics with the new songs already played is a nice combo, great show.  Those lucky enough to go are going to have a great time.

To say that the setlist didn't change at all during the 2006 shows is a bit of a stretch. Rocket Queen, Madagascar, You're Crazy, I Used To Love Her, Think About You, Down On The Farm... Surely those weren't played every night?

During one of the last shows before this current break, didn't Axl say to someone off stage when he was introducing 'Better' that he should start referring to it as being a song off of Chinese Democracy??  I wonder if he will start doing that during this leg of the tour!?!?

That is true, but if I recall correctly You're Crazy, Used to Love Her, and at least Down on the Farm weren't played until right after Axl had his little rant about fans complaining about how the setlist is always the same.  Coincidence?  You can't please all the fans, no matter what songs you play.  If they played Civil War and Estranged SOME people would flip out cuz they're not playing new songs from CD.
And vice versa.  Just keep playing shows, that's all I care about.

Exciting that GN'R will be back on the road soon.

I am expecting a similar set list and am expecting the same old whining and complaints from those who think GN'R play for message boards and not actual first time crowds. Remember that this is not a new tour, GN'R simply took some time off to finish recording from the last leg of the tour. And BBF has said there will be no more new songs until the album is out, which I am happy with as I don't want to hear anymore new songs, otherwise the album will have no more surprises. I think it has also been a while (2001?) since GN'R went to Japan so this is pretty much a new experience for a lot of those fans, they would not have heard Better and IRS live before.

I am hoping for some news between these dates and the Aussie dates, to kill some of the media negativity around the Australian tour about the album.
