Title: Will GNR Join The Rolling Stones In Europe This Summer?
Post by: FunkyMonkey on March 25, 2007, 01:09:36 PM
The Rolling Stones are planning to make up some lost dates from Europe last summer.  Since the shows that GNR were to open were canceled (July 10 in Nurnberg and two days later in Leipzig) will GNR open for the Stones again?

Why not...

I heard today on a danish radio station that Rolling Stones will bring a special guest to their concert in Copenhagen on 5th August.

Probably not GNR, but its a guess... ;D

If they have a gap in their schedule they should as it would give them maximum exposure. If CD is coming this year, any bit of advertising is vital, esp if another band is putting up the gig!

I sincerely doubt it. But I guess we'll have to wait for more official news on the tour.

There's a nice Slane Castle date on August 18th, and it would be great to see Rolling Stones supported by Guns N Roses, truly it would be the greatest gig of my life...barring bringing Freddie back from the grave and adding him to the bill

I hope so!  That would be most excellent.  Maybe for one or two shows, like the one's not were cancelled last year.

Anytime a band can open up for the Stones, it's HUGE.

the gig was cancelled. that would be the rolling stones gig. the fact that gn'r was supporting is superfluous and holds no bearing on who will support this time.

Don't forget, Mick always gets the singer from the supporting band to come up and do a song with him.

The Stones are legendary, but I think GNR aren't trying to open anymore at all! I'm sure Axl would be thrilled to be on the stage with the stones again but it would have to be a co- headline

If that's true, it must be the greatness of the current band that changed their minds.

They were going to OPEN two shows in Europe last year.

And an accident RS had  let them down.  it's possible that RS will try to make up for that.

If anywhere, Rolling Stones and Guns N Roses will play together at Slane Castle in Dublin, its the last date of the tour and obviously the most picturesque. Axl has played twice in the sunlight in Dublin, and wouldnt mind doing so again im sure, and the owner of Slane has already said the Rolling Stones will be playing at night...so we know its going to be a full day of support acts...hopefully decent quality ones.

Nope. The Stones never said that.... just wishing thinking I guess on the part of people who must not like the new band.

I don't think GN'R will do a European summertour this year because most of those dates should be on festivals, not indoors.  Hey, it's summer for something.  And most of the festivals have their headliners allready, so ...  However, Europe has had their GN'R shows last year, North America kinda had them too.  Let's give the rest of the world the chance to see them now.  Maybe they'll return to Europe and/or North America next winter.

Gn'R are booking an European tour for the year's end. they won't be playing here in the summer. they're still negotiating dates at this time.

the european agent was trying to book a tour earlier this year, to start in march - obviously it didn't happen. now he's back on track talking to promoters all over europe again to book it for the end of the year.
and no, i'm not an insider, i don't know anybody related to gn'r, i just happen to be in a band that played a bunch of shows with that promoter - we opened for whitesnake and robert plant.
must of you must know my band, we organized (and played) the pre-party for rock in rio 5.

Hahaha....what a ridiculous statement. EVERYTHING to do with opinion is debatable. Why don't you take your opinion of the Rolling Stones to a Rolling Stones board?

Nobody said RS is a better band, just a bigger band, and that's NOT debatable. Longevity, album sales, ticket sales, popularity, etc

I think GNR is a better band than The Stones, but there's no doubt the old geezers are bigger, and will always be

Title: Re: Will GNR Join The Rolling Stones In Europe This Summer?

the rolling stones are much bigger than gn'r. album sales, no 1's, no of fans. Pretty much any way you want to divvy it up, they win.

I also heard that GNR tried to book a Summer Date this year but were refused by some Irish promoters, and that they will only be booked later in the year, as there are too many good concerts happening this year and peoples money is now being spent on these and money would not be made on GNR to the same extent it was last year. One big problem was the album, since promoters felt without a new album and yet the promise of a new one, there could be problems when promoting the album. You'll remember that before this GNR have only played a handful of shows when theyve played, and never attempted to launch another string of dates having played 77 shows in 2006

I got this information from a well known insider of a high ranking promotion agency in Ireland, who has said that if GNR come back its being worked in for a Winter date...but its not impossible that they'll support the Stones as that would encourage tickets to sell....as there aren't that many people in Ireland who'll pay 90Euro to 186Euro to see the Stones

Sorry Pittman does that make sense?? If there aint that many people who would pay that to see the stones (one of which is me) wouldnt it help sales if GNR were on the bill?

Then it would only become interesting for them when they like both bands.  If the Irish don't want to pay that kind of money for a Stones show I can't imagine they would pay it for a Guns show.

The second gig in september was allegedly the police .Not happening.

Remember that the point depot is due to close for a revamp shortly therefore i don't think guns could play anywhere else other than back up at slane as there is still no release & i doubt they could muster anymore than 10-15 000 next time round with no cd.
