I listened to it.  He is not making fun GNR.  He is making fun of retarded German Metal Fans.  He clearly says it was a good bill.

I think it's pretty clear that over the year's Reznor is a far superior musician to Axl, and he know's how to look after his fans, and produce great records. It's quite sad that Axl can't even get this record together after all this time, with little care for his audience. It seems like the current bout of touring is just to ensure his bank balance is topped up...I'm definately anticipating the new NIN record more than GN'R's...

It wasn't a diss to GNR...It wasn't a diss to all GNR fans it was a diss to that particular crowd and he clearly stated that he though Germany was this hostle place.   He went back obivously...Look at the crowd in Donnington last year, that crowd SUCKED towards GNR, they were retarded.   Some crowds just suck period.

maybe trent reznor just writes boring music....can any of you tell me the difference between, downward spiral, the fragile and with teeth?.....i mean there are SLIGHT differences....but come on...the only albums of his that sound different are pretty hate machine and broken.....and dont even get me started on the 5,000 remix cds he has put out...i like nine inch nails as like a side band...something to listen to once in a while...i dont know how the diehards can listen to him all the time....

Trent is the greatest guy on Earth. He knows what his fans like. He just released Survivalism to the fans to remix it. Fuck, on 2005 he had a webcam showing their work on the studio. His work wasn't done but he didn't care to share it with his fans.

All this bad comments can not be compared to what Axl did with his own fans. I ?believe he is curious to hear CD, it may be a big NIN rip off, with layered guitars, noises and electronic beats.

Axl is a great song writer, a great vocalist and a show man. Trent is a genious.

well....  it`s probably not just that crowd. lots of gnr fans at lots of gnr gigs are really retarded towards the opening bands. even if bands like afx, pigeons of shit metal or bfmv totally suck, there`s no need to boo them before a gnr concert.
it`s not really cool to play in front of a bunch of ignorant people, who`re really trying to be assholes towards you. i mean it`s not like people don`t know who they`re going to see before gnr....  stay a little longer outside of the venue or whatever.... have a beer.... anyways...

right because trent reznor invented, revolutionized, popularized, and owns the copyrights to guitars, layered tracks, electronic beats, and noises. ::)  i'm sure nin is going to be an influence especially considering a former nin guitarist is now in gnr.  seriously though, the new stuff we've heard sure doesn't sound like a nin rip off to me, more like a combo of old school style ballads and gritty rock with a lil bit of hip hop sprinkled into the mix.  anyway it doesn't sound like what he said was meant as a disrespect to anyone in particular, not that i've watched it.  if he really was a big hater i don't think he'd be going to all the trouble to make so damn many subtle gnr references on the website.

Who cares what he says about GN'R their fans, I love Trent.  He is a great musician, very original like Axl.  If you were getting mud and shit thrown at you, while being booed would you say anything good about the situation?  I didn't think so, if that happened to Axl he would of just left.  Not a diss at Axl, as we all know hes the greatest around, but quit bitchin Trent and Axl are both great.

i've seen alot of good bands or up and coming bands get booed before the main act. smashing pumpkins opened for gn'r in 1992 at the rosemont horizon and they booed that band to no end. i remember reading that the hostile fans in germany actually were throwing sausages at nin. thats pretty funny. it probably doesn't do well for the ego to get booed but it's to be expected. gn'r took alot of bands out with them as they were breaking or before they broke big. nin, alice in chains, pumpkins, soundgarden....to name a few.

I am from Boston.  So it would be like saying the last time I visited some friends in NYC and we went to a bar and got into a fight with some unruly NYC people.  And then a few years later meeting the same friend and this time we had a good time and everyone was pleasant.  Thereby, remarking to my friend that this time people from NYC were really cool.

trent is a god amongst men. i have the upmost respect for trent, in every respect. so i just find this amusing!

Yes. The Fragile was a decent album which showed glimpses of musical maturity alongside the dumb-but-fun electro-rock. The other two were horrible, navel-gazing crap.

But that's just one man's opinion. 

I don't understand why Reznor would even remember having a bad night as a support act, nevermind bringing it up all these years later. He was touring on a debut album as the opening act for an established rock band, no-one is there to see you in that situation - You're just the thing standing between the fans and the band they came to see. Isn't it expected that you're going to be barely tolerated by the majority (at best) if not ignored or booed?  It's up to you to win them over by playing your ass off, you have to earn it.

Trent is not bashing the fans.  However the best thing Trent did was for Spiral members (get in early for sound check) Trent says he is bored of sound checks he give everyone pizza and pop and they get to hear the new Album from begining to end.  To me that is truly amazing to just take a bunch of fans and let them listen to a unreleased album. 

The reception from Metal fans was less than friendly towards NIN back then........

Trent never got over Robin going back to GNR after NIN. Guess when  Robin began writing new guns songs he got tired of just being a live guitar player for Trent.

Trent is frickin' amazing to me, I don't know why, he just is.

Remember that this was Pretty Hate Machine era NIN opening for Guns & Skid Row, with more synth pop elements and less of the heavier rock that defined some of their later releases. It's not really the kind of thing that your average metal fan would have appreciated at the time. At least you have to give Axl credit for realizing the potential that NIN had at the time.

NIN didn't invent anything (see Skinny Puppy for influence). Trent is a very talented guy, but some of the worship from his fans seems a little overblown. Wether it's song-writing, production, vocals, showmanship, whatever, there are a lot of people who top Trent in all categories, but he is a rare combination of talent (though certainly not the only one).


As for what he said i don't think it's a big deal at all, he was just telling a story, and i think maybe Trent has GNR fans on edge with all the little references he's dropped in photos and whatever. I mean, even IF he had hard feelings toward GNR i don't think he'd say anything until he was sure CD isn't going to come out and be huge (you don't want to be on the wrong side of a GNR feud if GNR is as big as they can be).

Also, while i know it must suck, i don't really fault fans for being tough on the opening acts. A GNR show is a great fun thing, and you have to excuse the fans if they're out of control with anticipation. As an opening act, you have to know what the audience you're playing to wants, and it's probably not you.
