Title: The Often Forgotten Song, Lets Talk About 'My World'
Post by: ChrisPittman on March 12, 2007, 11:40:22 AM
"My World" is a song by American hard rock band Guns N' Roses, written by lead singer Axl Rose. It was released in 1991 on their Use Your Illusion II album. The songs style is uncharacteristic when compared to the bands previous songs, and does not contain guitars or a bass, comprising only of Axl's vocals, drums and effects by himself and Johann Langlie."My World," the final track, was a surprise to a few members of the band. The track was essentially Axl Rose solo, and most of the members did not even know it existed until the album was released.

"My World" was never performed live, possibly due to its unusual musical arrangement or because other band members would be unable to participate in its performance. At 01:23, it is also Guns N' Roses' shortest song to date.

Personally, I hate this song, and I really cant stand it. As far as I would think, it was Axl attempting to be associated with the Rap world, which he had an admiration for. I would assume it was just a little Rap Tribute that in pre-Internet days he couldnt put anywhere else but at the end of the album.

"My World" isn't sold as part of "Use Your Illussion II" on itunes. I wonder who made that decision.

i don't consider "my world" a song in it's entirety, i take it more as an outro for the album. i think it sounds ok but just that. as i said, just a cool and different outro.

I think my world is awsome, I love the lyrics, I love the pipe smoking in the middle ( it's just before "Guess what I'm doing now"). It's not realy a song but it is fuckin cool.

yeah so lets not talk about it. That song is a disgrace to all the other songs that have made G'n'R the band they are today imo.  :-X The beet is just so wierd and different and Not G'n'R. The lyrics, i think, had potential i think it could have been a good song if it had the all necessary elements. Any one know for sure what Axl was trying to atempt there? I'm thinkin' hip hop  :-\

Hahah Axl just got E pwned lol. Umm My world , hmm sucks it is the worst thing I've heard them do but it seems like a foreshadow of the new band , with the synth and all... Thats where axl wanted to take the band.

It's a fun song, not meant to be taken seriously.

Exactly ... It's Axl taking the piss. It reminds me a lot of the song "Wayne Gretzky" by Goldfinger if any of you have heard it ...

I've always liked it.

haha another funny point...for a guy with a username of ChrisPittman...you hate a song comprised completely digitally...kinda weird  :peace: do you like "Silkworms"?

Hhaahaa... yeah.. sounds like an outro for me... I was very surprised when i read that Duff loves the song n' he said is one of his favourites!! I don't even know if he was talkin' serious or was sarcasm, because he was talkin' 'bout Axl role in composition...
A rap tribute? mmm... It tastes good don't it? sounds more a traditional rap for me...
My World is kinda a mix between rap n' those techno/industrial stuff: two different styles that Axl was into n' maybe he didn't share with any member of the band that time...

Not crazy about it, as it doesn't fit with the album.  I don't hate it, but if they (Axl) wanted to include something different, they should have put "It Tastes Good, Don't It?" at the end.  That would have been interesting.

At a mere running time of one minute and twenty-three seconds, it's easily my favorite part of the overrated, piece of shit known as Use Your Illusion II.

It is like this because the song HAD to be in a different direction. The song is bad because it HAD to presented as bad...

Thats gotta be a joke man, right? I mean, are you telling me that nothing else on that album is any good? Can you seriously tell me why you like Guns N' Roses if you dont like that album (even a little bit)?!

What about Breakdown, So Fine, Yesterdays, Locomotive, Estranged, You Could Be Mine?

The song I dislike most of this album is Shotgun Blues... I consider My World as an outro... they also used like an outro of the videos of the illusions n' at the end of the shows... btw I think Breakdown is one of the most brillant Gn'R composition, the most underrated Gn'R song... by far

Use your Illusion II has some amazing songs on it, and some stinkers too. I think I'm just about the only person in the world that thinks Breakdown is a piece of shit....! Its terrible...

You don't like shotgun blues?  I love that song!  I agree that Breakdown is very underrated.

So Fine never did much for me, though.

My world never happened. It's something I repressed a long time ago. UYI2 has 13 songs on it, just like my ipod says.

I think it is  meant as a joke, and I personally love it. Just the idea, the lyrics, and as an insight into the  creative genius/madness that we know as Axl Rose. Listen to it LOUD.

The first time I heard this song, I started laughing hysterically.  I continue to laugh when I hear it, too.  I love this song, it's so maniacal

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I think it's a great thing  : ok: A small little work of strange art  :hihi:
