Title: Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55 Post by: WhiteRose on March 09, 2007, 08:10:34 PM He was the amazing voice of an amazing band... he will be missed.
W.R. Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55 Brad Delp, the lead singer for Boston, a huge rock sensation in the 1970s, was found dead Friday in his home, police said. He was 55. Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Police Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play. Delp apparently was alone at the time of his death, Baldwin said. The cause of his death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday. Delp fronted the rock band, who rose to fame in the late 1970s and had several hits, including "More than A Feeling." The group sold millions of records. Link: http://music.yahoo.com/read/news/40689307 Title: Re: Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55 Post by: GeraldFord on March 09, 2007, 09:33:33 PM A real shame. March 10, 2007, 12:00 PM CT Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Boston vocalist Brad Delp, who sang on classic rock staples like "More Than a Feeling," "Don't Look Back" and "Long Time," was found dead at his southern New Hampshire home yesterday (March 9), according to local police. He was 55. The artist was home alone at the time and there was no indication of foul play. Delp powerful, high-register singing was an integral part of Boston's ascent to rock superstardom in the mid- and late 1970s. The group's self-titled 1976 album is often credited as the top selling debut in American history with 17 million copies; the 1978 follow-up, "Don't Look Back," shifted four million in its first month of release. However, the band went long periods of time without new music, reappearing sporadically with different lineups. A 1986 hit, "Amanda," re-energized Boston, but Delp exited in 1991 to pursue music with former Boston member Barry Goudreau. Boston went on to release just two new studio albums in the ensuing two decades. Delp returned to the band to sing on new songs recorded for a 1997 greatest hits album. Boston was said to have been working on a new release for the past several years, but no information has been revealed as to how far along the band was in the process. R.I.P. I hope we find out what the reason was. It's just hard to fathom that Brad Delp killed himself. Title: Re: Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55 Post by: Axlfreek on March 15, 2007, 10:18:26 PM Delp Suicide Note: 'I Am a Lonely Soul'
Mar 15, 7:24 PM EST The Associated Press ATKINSON, N.H. -- Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston who killed himself last week, left behind a note in which he called himself "a lonely soul," according to police reports released Thursday. The note was paper-clipped to the neck of Delp's shirt when police found his body at his Atkinson home, on the bathroom floor, his head on a pillow. He had sealed himself inside with two charcoal grills; toxicology tests showed he had committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. "Mr. Brad Delp. J'ai une ame solitaire. I am a lonely soul," the note read. Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time." He was cremated Wednesday, after a private funeral earlier in the week. His fiancee, Pamela Sullivan, called police March 9 after noticing a dryer vent tube connected to the exhaust pipe of Delp's car. In the garage, police found a note taped to the door leading into the house. "To whoever finds this I have hopefully committed suicide. Plan B was to asphyxiate myself in my car." In another note on a door at the top of the stairs, Delp cautioned that there was carbon monoxide inside. "I take complete and sole responsibility for my present situation. I have lost my desire to live," he wrote. The note also included instructions on how to contact his fiancee: "Unfortunately she is totally unaware of what I have done." Police later found four sealed letters in an office addressed to Sullivan, his children, their mother, Micki Delp, and another couple whose identity was not disclosed. Police Lt. William Baldwin said police gave the letters to family members without reading them. Sullivan told police that Delp "had been depressed for some time, feeling emotional (and) bad about himself," according to the reports. He had planned to marry Sullivan this summer during a break in a tour with Boston. A lifelong Beatles fan, Delp also played with the tribute band Beatle Juice. Title: Re: Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55 Post by: Robman? on March 17, 2007, 12:42:37 AM His fiancee, Pamela Sullivan, called police March 9 after noticing a dryer vent tube connected to the exhaust pipe of Delp's car. In the garage, police found a note taped to the door leading into the house. "To whoever finds this I have hopefully committed suicide. Plan B was to asphyxiate myself in my car." Thats weird, considering cars these days have catalytic converters to convert carbon minoxide to C02. Either he had an old car, or he was sitting there for hours. Maybe he did it so fast that the converter had no time to warm up, or he really thought it out and took out the converter beforehand. Title: Re: Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55 Post by: Malcolm on March 20, 2008, 03:31:12 PM Boston recruits singers for summer trek
A year following the death of lead singer Brad Delp, classic rockers Boston have regrouped and announced plans for a summer tour. The band has enlisted veteran Stryper frontman Michael Sweet and MySpace phenomenon Tommy DeCarlo to take over vocal duties. DeCarlo, a huge fan of Boston, was discovered after posting covers of the band's songs on his MySpace page. The tour is set to kick off June 6 with a headlining performance at the Thunder Bay, Ontario, stop of the Great Race 2008, a 'round-the-globe motor-sports event. From there, Boston is scheduled to visit a handful of cities across the US through mid-August. The current itinerary is listed below and updates will be posted at the band's website. Boston is also planning to release a re-mastered "Greatest Hits" CD to coincide with the outing. Singles from all five of the group's albums will be included, as well as photos from throughout the years and liner notes written by Boston guitarist, producer, songwriter and only original member, Tom Scholz. Boston released its latest studio album, "Corporate America," in 2002 and the band hasn't toured since 2004. The rockers were planning a summer jaunt last year before Delp, 55, took his own life. Boston exploded on the '70s rock scene with its self-titled, debut album, which comprised a flurry of hits including "More Than a Feeling," "Long Time" and "Peace of Mind." The album was the highest-selling debut of all time and went on to move more than 17 million copies, according to a press release.
