Title: Post your favorite MIDI tunes (even from video games) Post by: Walk on March 10, 2007, 12:12:21 AM http://www.surfing.net/ultima/bard/u6midi/Stones.mid
This one's rather sad, especially taken into context. We will probably never see RPGs as good as the old Ultima games, ever again. http://www.midishrine.com/dritidet/mpc/Doom/level2.mid This is the music to the second level of Doom. For some reason, it reminds me of porno music. Unfortunately, I haven't convinced a girl to "experience" this music with me. For one thing, it's too short. ;) http://www.midishrine.com/dritidet/sns/Chrono_Trigger/w1000a.mid Chrono Trigger. Another kick ass game that they don't make anymore. :( http://www.hamienet.com/16517_The-Unforgiven.mid The Unforgiven. The original song is overproduced pop music and a sellout for Metallica, but damn, the MIDI smokes. There's just something about MIDI that makes it 100x better. http://gamemusic.emugaming.com/ The music to Tyrian, the greatest side scrolling shooting game of all time. Ok, it's in mp3, for some reason, and 2x faster than normal, but still kicks ass. EDIT: Screwed up the Tyrian link, go find it yourself. Yes, it's worth it. ;) Overall, I find that MIDI tends to evoke sadness and nostalgia, for some reason. I'm not talking just about the old video games, either; the Metallica one shows this effect a lot. Also, at one time, MIDIs were seen as a major piracy issue, before mp3s. ;) Title: Re: Post your favorite MIDI tunes (even from video games) Post by: -Jack- on March 10, 2007, 12:44:14 AM I've always thought the first level of Doom had kick ass music...
http://www.midishrine.com/dritidet/mpc/Doom/level1.mid Simon's Theme from Castlevania IV has always been a great for me... I couldn't find a perfect version... but this is still good. The bass is lacking though during the bridge. Love that part. Great theme.. would be cool to hear a metal version or something. http://castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/Media/Midi/Theme_of_Simon.mid Dragon Warrior castle theme... not the original version.. but I love this song. Dragon Warrior always has some good tunes. http://home2.swipnet.se/~w-22134/nmm/dw1king.mid Super Mario World Fortress http://www.midishrine.com/dritidet/sns/Super_Mario_World/fortress.mid There's tons of other things.. but this is all I feel like finding now. Title: Re: Post your favorite MIDI tunes (even from video games) Post by: Alan on March 10, 2007, 08:45:49 PM oh stuff you use for music tabs? sort of, tab programs like powertab use midi notes in their playback. but it's way more complex than that. at one point i knew a shit load about midi, forgot most of it now. though i do remember controller number 10 is for panning. |
