in the UK they dont - but under new EU rules (god bless em :)) thats set to change - which will lead to hilarious results in areas where the prison population actually outnumbers that areas constituents - expect candidates campaigning for bigger cells and shorter sentence any day now....

I believe that in the US the answer is no, that is, if you are in a state or federal prison for years. We are not talking about the county or city jail for 30 days or something. But a prison sentence deprives you of  the right to vote, if I am not mistaken.

In the US, only in Maine and Vermont.

Here in Canada, they sure do.

I think it's a FELONY that you have to commit to loose that right. Not a misdemeanor.

Only in some states.  Florida is the big one because that was a big piece of Bush winning in 2000, a law was passed literally a couple months before the election that felons couldn't vote, even if they were out of prison.  Total bullshit.

in Finland yes, prisoners are citizens too  :P

I did a little research and could'nt find anything one way or another. Now I would assume that if the person meets all the requirements than they would be allowed to vote as they are givin new identities and I don't see there being a huge security factor in someone registering and actually voting under their new identity.? :smoking:

thats just - wow, really wrong. Isnt prison about paying off your debt to society? Being rehabilitated? Once a crook always a crook eh?

Its considered part of the punishment to those who committed the crime. Even if one has been fully rehabilitated, once they made that conscious decision to do a felony crime than they lost certain rights as U.S. citizens. I see nothing wrong with that.  :smoking:

Prisoner's can petition to have their right to vote restored.? Prison isn't about rehabilitation, it's about punishment.? Since nearly 70% of those in prison return, any concept or ruse of rehabilitation is laughable.
