Title: What happened to the open letter to Axl thread?
Post by: lynn1961 on March 07, 2007, 01:18:51 AM
Am I missing something?  What happened to it?

Stuff like that gets deleted.  Echrisl even knew it would be.

Not just locked - but deleted?   Why?   Because someone spoke the truth, about their own feelings?

Can't have everyone flood the board with their feelings.

Seems a bit over kill me thinks........

It's a shame too, since it was a well written letter. Better than 99.9 percent of the crap people post here on a daily basis.

Overkill?  That it was just deleted?  or the letter itself?

This board isn't the "post your open letters to Axl" board.

Especially when all the letter did was attack Axl for the things he said.

There was no discussion, it was just one big list of accusations from a fan. Considering it was very unlikely that Axl would respond in that thread, there's even less reason for that discussion to take place.

Point well taken.  Makes sense.  I understand what you are saying.   However, in defense of the writer of the letter, this is a forum, where people are allowed to express their opinions and Axl is one of the main subjects of this board.  Accusations...he just said what he felt, and said it well.

The majority of posts on this board are little more than accusations in one form or another.

This was directly aimed at one person who doesn't post on this board.

A bit different.

I have to disagree. You are telling me that this board isn't full of accusations about Axl (past and present?)

Jarmo. Have you ever considered not having a GNR section at all? The main site will contain your updates but the board won't contain discussion relating to current goins-on.

I think this letter is just an excuse for the same bashers to go on with their daily bashing.

The reason I posted the letter here before I posted it anywhere else was that of all the GNR boards around, this one is probably the one where my letter was the most likely to actually be read by or passed on to Axl.  Furthermore this is the GNR board I have been most active on in the past, and one of the boards I've been a member of the longest.

I actually was not completely sure that it would be removed, given that I had specifically gone back and modified some of my language in the letter to intentionally blunt it, but I sure wouldn't have bet against it being quickly removed, either.

It really was not my intention to personally attack Axl in that letter, but rather to express how I and perhaps fans of a similar mindset feel about Axl and the band right now.  That said, however, I did indeed make some very minor personal attacks in my letter.

I have recently revised the letter and would send it to Jarmo in a PM if he wanted to consider allowing me to start another topic with my revised letter, but I have a feeling he would rather I just go on about my business and I am willing to do that because at the end of the day Jarmo does pay the bills around here and does have the right to determine what is said on his board, as much as I may sometimes disagree with his decisions.

Furthermore I do recognize that if he were to allow every person who posts here to start their own letter thread that the board would descend into complete chaos.

Anyway Jarmo, I really meant no disrespect to you and I'm sorry if I ruffled any feathers around here, but in the last few years this board has become increasingly difficult to navigate without getting into trouble of one kind or another for anyone who doesn't feel the same fervor for every move the band makes that you seem to.

 :peace:

That's all I need to know.

Yeah I have, just to please people like you.

The biggest supporters of this site.

People who come here to remind us what a shit hole full of censorship this is and how GN'R were all about having no rules and freedom of speech.

People who have nothing good to say about their favorite sites other than "well, at least it's not like HTGTH and the mods aren't like those nazis".

Nobody's stopping you from leaving you know.

I'm not gonna change to make a few people, who think it's their right to whine, happy.

Read the first sentence in the letter writer's post.

People like me? Doing it would please someone like you, and quite frankly would probably make your life easier.

Oh, now I see. Sarcasm, but misdirected. When was I ever one of these people? I don't even post in your fucking GNR section anymore. (For a few months now).

I decided to draw my own line when a post of mine was deleted, and when I got tired of reading that famous line after posting. I remember I referenced Axl as a stupid little white-boy poseur. Funny, 'cause I quoted him?

I used to provide thought provoking posts and at times inserted my humour here and there.

I never "whined" about anything in the administrative section or called anyone a Nazi, wheather I may or may not think so.

And now you're showing me the door???

You don't want me around, I'll leave.

My above suggestion was a valid one and I really question your logic, attacking me for no reason.

Attacking you for no reason?

You suggested I throw away ten years of work because you think it's a good idea.

Yeah, people like you. People who don't even post in the GN'R section (on a GN'R board), but still visit and want to see the biggest section gone while making remarks about how bad this site is.

OK. So don't.  : ok:

That's not to say I don't read it now and then.

This I haven't done. Show me; but you obviously don't want to give this the time of day.

Anyhow, it wasn't my intention to offend you, so I'm sorry if I did. But..................... that will be all.
