Title: A Friendly Wager
Post by: SINSHINE on March 03, 2007, 10:44:44 PM
I made a bet with a friend of mine, two or so years ago, that Chinese Democracy would outsell Contraband after a year's time on the shelves. I'm still very confident that this will happen, however, I'm having trouble finding some solid numbers as to what Contraband has sold (both U.S. and worldwide) during it's first year of release, as well as total sales up until present day.

You see, I'm going to see this friend of mine again very soon, and knowing that I'll be receiving a hell of a lot of shit from him as to the record's unending absense, I think I'm starting to feel confident that Chinese Democracy may do even better than I expected when I made the original bet (due to having heard the leaks and the success of the '06 tour) and I might want to up the wager a bit just to shut him up  ;)

Anyone have some solid numbers for the sales of Contraband? If you think CD will sell more in a year's time...how much more do you think it would?

Facts and/or opinions welcome  :peace:

 you still think chinese democracy will be released.

seriously though, i think your on the losing side of this bet.
i just think its too popular to not like axl, and the negative opinions will keep people from even giving the album a chance. that and with the way it keeps getting pushed back, itll probably go against another velvet revolver release.

Love Axl, Hate Axl Chinese Democracy will sell millions even just out of curiosity from old Gn'r fans.
As much as i love Velvet Revolver, your on to a safe bet that Chinese Democracy will sell more copies.

Contraband was released in June 2004.  It was certified double-platinum in July of 2005.  So it likely sold 2  million records in its first year.

Of couse Chinese Democracy will sell more...  That would not be the case if the band name was changed though.

Yup.  I 100% agree.  Axl Rose on his own name, would sell a fair number of copies.  But no where NEAR as many as the name Guns N' Roses.

Think there's a chance of CD going triple platinum in it's first year (again, based on the GN'R name alone, really)?
