It would be quite funny to do a video with a theme of 'rumoured sightings' - you know Axl turning up in a bunch of places (like the Strip Joint or some random resaurant) with CD in his hand. Or maybe they could subliminally place Axl at these places in a normal video so that people think they've seen Axl before.

Seriously, I think Garden of Eden was the best GN'R video ever - original but not overblown (I dunno but sometimes the whole November Rain thing was a bit over the top for me although I thought Estranged was pretty cool)

I have a feeling we'll be seeing something a lot like the "Welcome To The Jungle" video - centrally a performance video, but with story arcs in between.  For Axl's comeback, he can't have his first video be some high-concept thing that will lose people.  It has to be short, punchy, and visceral.

Dude!  That's one of the best ideas I have ever heard on this board!  That would be hilarious, and a great way to show Axl's self-depricating humor.  Maybe they could take it further and show people in a record store in the "G's" and Axl runs in and grabs all the Chinese Democracy Cd's and runs away.  The theme of "Axl does'nt want anyone to hear CD" would be a great way premier it.  Genius, man.  Good job!

Oh, and Garden Of Eden has always been my favorite GNR video, too.

Black screen that zooms in overhead to a stage littered with pistols an roses. Music starts and the band comes out from underneath the guns and roses. People start appearing around the stage rockin out to the song until there are thousands of them. At the end of the song the fans cheer wildly and a single fan takes a picture of Axl,and Axl says ....THATS IT IM GOIN HOME.  : ok:

I wanted to see a video like the beastie boys did explaining their absence, they were being held by big foot, would have shown axl could just laugh it off, make light of something that took so long. :hihi:

I think it really depends on which song the video is for. I would like to see something relevant to the lyrics, but nothing over the top..until the 2nd video.

I dont know if this would work for a video but more as a commercial. Black and White shot in a small Chinese town. People are running down the narrow roads, while helicopters hoover over head. On the tail of the copters would be the Chinese Democracy star (in red color). The camera zooms in to a young Chinese boy in a small Chinese hut. He wraps a white bandana around his head with a red CD star. So far the only things in color are the Chinese Democracy stars. The boy goes to run out of the hut when he turns around and  grabs something off of the table. The boy gathers with the large crowd as they run down the street. The street gets more crowded with people along with tanks (with the red star visible), army men\women, and those large dragons. (the ones the chinese people use during new years). The crowd stops as they meet up with hundreds of other people. All wearing white bandannas with the red star. The little boy looks to his hand which he is carrying what he grabbed from his house and it turns out to be a gas mask. He turns around and places the gas mask on to his head and raises his right arm with a fist into the air. Camera will zoom into his fist as the screen fades black and reads Chinese Democracy is coming in stores ** ** ****.

Dont know if it would work as a video or not. It came to me one night while trying to get to sleep. Sometimes Insomnia can give you some crazy ass ideas.

Well it depends on what the first single will be - if it's dark-mooded then something dark would be fine. If it's an epic, then a kind-of-sequel to November Rain and Estranged videos.

I just love those two videos. Full of visual metaphors.

I would like to see Robin do some weird art on it too. :)

As long as its not part of a soundtrack Ill be happy. The 1st video I want to be of the band and the concept of the song. If they wanna do soundtrack later on, cool, but for the 1st it should just be focusing on the new band, not snoopy and Axl singing together in a video

Maybe it could take place in a military facility, a Chinese Army base, and the band is on top of a building there, with big video screens all over the place, graffiti all over everything, with cuts of the army soldiers marching and loading up ready to assault, while choppers are flying overhead, spotlights shining all around, the band just rocking out the entire time. If not, imagine the video to Audioslave's 'Cochise', where they're just on a building with tons of huge fireworks and rockets going off. Just put GNR on the Great Wall instead of a construction facility or whatever they were on...

Great thought (the first one), but that would fit only for Chinese Democracy song and Axl said it won't be a single.

I think the first GNR video should be like the video Soundgarden did for 'Fell On Black Days'. For those that don't remember, the band is in a small black room and the band just starts playing the song live. No lip synching like most videos. Very groundbreaking at the time. As for what song they choose to pick, I would prefer 'Chinese Democracy'. But if Axl wants to go completely mainstream and expand his fanbase to people of all ages and especially this new generation, I think if he has a catchy pop song along the lines of U2's 'Vertigo', I think he should go with something like that instead. He needs his first single to be #1 in the first week, so I think a pop song would be the best option other than 'Chinese Democracy' or 'The Blues' like most people want. And in my opinion, a ballad should be completely out of the question. A ballad should be done as a 2nd or 3rd single.

Whatever it is and however it's done, the videos (especially the first one) should reflect the album itself, and the hopefully "groundbreaking," "innovative," etc. etc. elements that Mr. Rose has been working on all these long years.

i don't think we'll be seeing the band doing any role playing/acting in the videos
some in-studio shots... some backstage footage... concert footage...  and a performance staged exclusively for the video would be cool...

i liked the animation they put together for the intro of the hard rock gigs... something like that could be incorporated

This might sound corny to u but I kinda like the Idea of Madagascar being there first video, And Basically u see Axl washing up on the beach. Then getting up and we see all these clips of the old GnR and clips from newpapers and magazines that are all ANTI-AXL then basically we see Him pic up a GnR plaque thats been broken in half and as all this is going on with Axl coming back and finding all the shitstorm thats been left to him we see constant clips of the whole world basically against him a saying hes washed up, then he puts the GnR plaque back together which morphs into the NEW GNR SYMBOL and then we zoom out and its on brains drumset and their all at a concert performing Madagascar. Basically to me the song is about triumph in the face of the worst kind of adversity u can think of, Its js a rough Idea I dont have it all mapped out but those are js some images that popped into my head when hearing the song. I mean it would be cool to show through all the bullshit and fucking ingrates that Axl is still standing tall with a new Guns N' Roses cast and at the end of the Video we see Axl sitting back in his chair smoking a cigar walking out of the venue and getting into a Limo, js a way of saying hey Im not done yet motherfuckers, Im back and badder than ever. But the Image of him washing up on the shore definately sticks in my head the most.

Cool idea too, but I think sharing our thoughts decreases our chances to watch such scenes in a gn'r clip  :-\. Especially if someone from the crew reads that thread? :(.

I always heard "Catcher In The Rye" would be the first single/video but I never heard it from Axl so the rumor doesn't carry much weight - especially these days when CD's track list is in huge question (as it always has been).

if ya give any credance to hear-say... according to a fan who spoke with Axl backstage, Axl named the first single (title not revealed by fan)... In any event this would indicate he had/has already selected the first single sine 12/02.  If that choice hasn't changed then they've had some time to come up with a concept for the video for it.

what if the video opened with Axl's line from the HOB "I have traversed a treacherous sea of horrors to be with you here tonight" and then throughout they showed snippets of the comeback...
starting with HOB... could include the famous "welcome back" chant and then.. Rio.. .a shot of him throwing the fan out... the huge crowd at Rio... the ending where he and Beta hugged...  and then some behind the scenes stuff... the european tour cancellations news (somehow).. the Hard Rock gigs.. including a reenactment of Slash being turned away from the gigs... shots from those shows... then more behind the scenes stuff of what was going on in the band and the gnr camp in general and with Axl...then the world tour 02 and american leg... including shots of Axl stuck on the plane while the venue cancelled Vancouver... the riot.. footage from the tour...  behinds the scene stuff... MSG (include the sold out in 15 minutes thing somehow)... then the philly riot..   more behind the scenes stuff... Then come forward to where GN'R are at that point...  triumphant

The more I listen to the "demos" the more Axl surpases my expectations...I cant imagine his creativity vision for the videos, Axl is just the greatest artist of all time. period.

Does anyone recall the rumors that Guns were recording parts of videos for CD songs in China as well as at a baseball statium?  I think these rumors were floating around in 2002.

I think Axl should contact Cameron Crowe, who really did great things during the live scenes of "Almost Famous," not to mention the bus scene with "Tiny Dancer."

I always get this movie vibe off "Better," where a break up has occured, and the one being broke up realizes that they are strong enough to survive and move on.  Kind of the lone person, walking alone, with their head high.  Just my two cents. 

wouldn't suprise me if this time around you get no videos, just a radio single, tour and album.. Not going to get those monster money takers like the trilogy.. last thing I want to see is axl walking around sulking about 13 year old news

I was thinking that perhaps there'd be one done in the style of House of Flying Daggers or Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon... with lots of high-res photography and brilliant colors. Or maybe in Sin City style!! OR... both ideas fused into one!! Like.... half of it is in HOFD style and it changes at certain parts to SC style... and then back to HOFD style... and back again. I don't know... I just got thinking... and an advert for HOFD came on and I was like "WOW! That would ROCK!!!"

All good ideas but I feel the first video might be clips from live performances from during the upcoming tour and maybe some backstage shots etc but basically like the PC video. Have the studio track dubbed over videos of the band playing that track. Would show the bands still ready to rock n roll, a video like Estranged or Don't Cry would be a big mistake as a first single video.

1. (worse case senario) various shots from the recent live gigs  :-\
2. (better than 1.) something abstract, shots of locations, the band are not seen
3. A proper video, the band out and about in some place (maybe China) struting their stuff  :beer:

i think for IRS, we need a car chase with a helicopter chasing also. explosions, axl sky diving parachuting then landing in the back of a jeep next to bumblefoot, who then plays a solo towards all the police cars behind him sending a shock wave of guitar riffery and all the tires burst and windows shatter causing them all to flip over and crash. Then the car needs to crash into the water in which axl swims with dolphins again, and bumblefoot comes out of water soloing. Then richard fortus rescues the band by bringing them in with a guitar lead. then the gnr band are surrounded by fbi people, they give them a quick gig with explosions and then a nuclear bomb goes off to finish it.

When will Axl tell us when the first video is coming out?  ???

Here's what I'm seeing for a 'Better' video:

Axl's sitting in a hotel room, in a chair by a window, it's dark outside. He's got a blank look on his face, then he starts with the "No one ever told me..", then Axl gets up while singing, leaves his hotel room, time it to where when the music kicks in right when Axl slams the door. While singing, he's walking down the hall, going down the elevator, stopping at the bar to get a drink, etc., all the while, flashing to the band playing the song in a dark place. Then when Axl gets outside the hotel and walks down the street, he meets up with the band, when all of these kinda neon lights start flashing behind Axl & the band (imagine Coldplay's "Speed of Light" video, but outside on the streets at night.

why bother making a video. MTV and VH1 rarely even play vids anymore. Unless it's a bonus included with the cd, i say no video, just tour.

here's an idea:

make puppets of all the band members and hire some puppet operators to move them about. That could be entertaining  ;D

nothing too bloated, but lots of impact. A bit arty and edgy - grainy type footage.Its important that Axl looks cool in it, in many ways to try and make the public forget how awful and weird he looked at 2002 VMAs (which is the last image most of  the general public have of him)

im thinkin a kind of WTTJ style video for madagasgar! u know the one that has all the clips but maybe not because they prob wud be too similar!!! i think that they will release four traks and one will be an epic like november, im thinkin.................Better!

i posted this on CD.com and Frozen has seen it before but this is my idea for a TWAT video (Cheese alert)

Starts out with Axl doing the dance he does then when ?Social Class and cigarettes? part starts it cuts to Black and white footage of Lafayette Indiana like the school and stuff then moves to axl on stage singing the song. then  old footage of him and Stephanie and him and Erin. Quick cuts of Axl and the band doing the song. Then axl stood outside a TV store like in Jungle looking at the same set of Tvs hosting old footage of Gn?R. then back to Axl singing. When the first solo starts, Axl drops the mic and heads for the Backstage curtain although when he opens it it?s a sunset on top of the hill where Axls house is. Cuts to robin playing the solo. After solo where Axl sings ?I would do anything for you? hes singing it on top of the hill looking out to the sunset, arms out stretched and cut to fortus or whoever playing the second solo with a spark shower behind them as they play with cut backs to Axl in front of the sunset zooming slowly in on him. End solo and Fortus slams his guitar on the floor as the band starts the ?There was a time? chants and cuts between Axl singing to the sunset and the band on the stage playing. Then as the music ends you see axl walk out of shot and the camera pans in on the sunset. Fade to Black.

I think that's the greatest idea I've ever read...It'd really fit his humor, too. And if the video's Better, he can call us downloading motherfuckers in it.

Just them playin whatever the first single is.. Low down and dirty and something that makes them look like a real rock band.

I like those lines.  The video for this song has a lot of imagery to play with here. It'd be nice to see it in b&w with a little bit of color, like in Sin City.

alternatively, does the album have to be turned over to the record company, then the release the budget for a video??

either way i wasn't sure if the band had left enough time to make a video in that gap (say it takes a week to film, and then whatever productions needs to go in to it?)

seems like setting unlikely goals?

There is no release date set. The record is not finished. Why does everyone have to speculate about a thousand different scenarios every time we get an official update? NOBODY KNOWS WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING TO HAPPEN!::) They have a scheduled tour, that is all we know. :-\

1. yes there is no release date.

2. the record is techinically not finished, it is at the mixing stage, the music is finished. so dont patronise with your "this is the facts and thats it" shite.

3. your right no knows "what the fuck" is happening, but read point 2 and we have a reasonable idea of where we are.

4. we haven't heard anything about a video shoot officially, the band need a video for the first single to properly promote the album. fact. Therefore it is apparent
that if a vidoe has not been shot, then it will need to be shot between now and the tour starting. (i personally cant seem them shooting the first video while on tour)

5. the first single form an album usually drops on music tv channels say 3 weeks before the actuall album release. this means that if we are set for a summer release then the video shoot should be reasonably soon, if "normal" logic is followed.


Finally this point doesnt deserve a number, but opinions are like arseholes, everone has got one. That means im entitled to mine.

My personal prediction is that Axl / GNR will do the smart thing and have 2 or 3 videos already in the bag, before they go out on a world tour.

That's what I would do. Have a lot of shit in place and ready to go so that there would be minimal distractions to such a tour.

I posted this on thenewguns.com, but I think maybe you guys would like to read my ideas about a Better video:

Well, I would shot it in an empty arena, with the band playing "live" (kinda like the Foo Fighters video One by One). At first, within the riff from the intro, it would be just Robin in the spotlight, with all dark behind.

Then, when the verse starts, it shows the pyro and the whole band playing in the back. Would be cool to have Axl with his sunglasses in a blur focus, like that Woody Allen movie. Once he starts the chorus, it shows him with the regular focus, but when he starts to yell at the heavy part, his focus starts to shake like hell (I dunno if I can explain it properly, but oh well).

The band HAS to be showed a lot. Once Ron starts to shred, the editing should be crazy, showing all the angles really fast. Frank (or Brain) would be shot most in his back, to show the band playing and the empty seats in the arena.

But then, when it goes into the break with Pittman bubble sound, then it shows all them in slow motion, till Axl starts to sing again. While Robin play his solo, he starts to have this shaking focus like Axl.

When the song cames back to Axl's last verses, it goes back to the original, but with the arena full, with sold-out shows footage (like NY). Then, in the end, it shows people from the first row singing along, and it turns out to turn up the lights and they are back in the empty arena, "alone".

Nothing too fancy, just showing the band rocking.

first video "better"- the main part of the video will be shots from 2006 tour and that is

second video "madagascar"- very hard song with very strong video (something like gnr trilogy),but i would make a little religious concept of video

just watched mtv making the video, don't remember what band or song but even though the video only took a day to record it took 2-3 weeks editing and stuff

First video will be for Chinese Democracy, recorded in China.

Maybe the first video could be one of those "Recording of the song in the studio" videos. As long as you get the 39 people who have been in GnR since they started recording to sign off that it's OK for them to be in the video. And Axl could age 13 years from the beginning to the end of the video. No special effects in the world could top that.

Thats a pretty good idea. I like it.
I think there will be a few Live film clips for the Album.
