There should be a closed, isolated area for us University people in HTGTH. So we wouldn't have to mingle with these lesser peasants so much. Title: Re: university students Post by: Izzy on February 18, 2007, 02:20:58 PM University students are idiots and pricks. All of us. Title: Re: university students Post by: Skeletor on February 18, 2007, 04:08:59 PM What an odd thing to say.... Heh, just fucking with ya... I actually just got my bachelor's degree a few days ago, now going for the master's. Still got some work to do... I don't know how the system's over there, but in Finland a bachelor's degree from a university means (in most cases) that the person was just too lazy to write his/her master's thesis, and got stuck with the BSc. Title: Re: university students Post by: the dirt on February 18, 2007, 04:13:56 PM I don't know how the system's over there, but in Finland a bachelor's degree from a university means (in most cases) that the person was just too lazy to write his/her master's thesis, and got stuck with the BSc. Surely there's more work involved than simply writing a thesis paper :-\ Title: Re: university students Post by: Skeletor on February 18, 2007, 04:22:36 PM Surely there's more work involved than simply writing a thesis paper :-\ Yeah, but the point is that you won't graduate before you've written that thesis, so all that other work won't "show" anywhere. And that final thesis is often what people have trouble with, as they might already have jobs from their own field at that point, etc. they can't find the time to finish it. That's where the saying "gradua vaille valmis" comes from, which basically means "a thesis short of graduating", or something to that effect. Title: Re: university students Post by: Butch Français on February 19, 2007, 07:53:59 AM what seems clear after reading this thread, is that Mr. Rage is pretty much dead on with his description of university students.
you all think your posts are funny, don't you? yes, I know you do. good to see nothing has changed since I left uni ;D Title: Re: university students Post by: A Private Eye on February 19, 2007, 08:19:34 AM Of course we are all pricks. Well what do you expect? Read his post again, it's pretty provocative... Title: Re: university students Post by: Danny Top Hat on February 19, 2007, 10:24:42 AM Nah, in all fairness a lot of students are dicks, but then so are many people. Where i'm at there's a whole lot of people who seem to think that living up to stereotypes is all that is required of a person in their situation - these are the same people who probably see it just as an extension of high school. Uni should be a time to better yourself but a lot of people choose to waste it, but fuck 'em!
The answer to Rage's question is obvious: There are lots of annoying people out there and if they give students a bad name it's cause these people tend to be the loudest. There's lots of down to earth people at uni, you've just gotta filter through the masses to find them. Title: Re: university students Post by: Mr Rage on February 19, 2007, 01:16:58 PM all jokes aside, i'm proud to be working class, i'm not the brightest i'll admit that, but someone who is a uni doesn't always grant you a good life, the girl at my chippy has a degree and yet she's been at that chippy for 3 years!

Thats like ?1000 a year more than a non grad - I spend ?1500 a year just getting to work :crying: Title: Re: university students Post by: Prometheus on February 19, 2007, 02:58:26 PM What an odd thing to say.... Title: Re: university students Post by: Skeba on February 19, 2007, 03:39:35 PM No. Up until now at least in the University that I'm in it was not even possible to get a bachelor's degree. You had to go straight for the master's degree. It's changing now so that it's mandatory to do, and possible to stop after the Bachelor's, but it is not a recommended option.

It's different in the US, a Masters degree is definitely a career booster - though in my observation/experience a UK Bachelors is about equal to a US Masters for content/difficulty (outside of Ivy League, MIT, Caltech kind of institutions.) Chavs? The working class? People in low paid employment? Title: Re: university students Post by: Elrothiel on February 24, 2007, 08:19:32 PM People who are beneath me are people who lack the intelligence to be themselves and therefore follow a crowd, doing whatever that crowd does, and forgetting who they are deep down inside.
So yes, chavs are beneath me. They are cowards, who follow each other, do not have their OWN voice, and beat up on people more intelligent than they. Emos are also beneath me, but not so far beneath me as chavs, as they don't beat up on individuals. I couldn't care less if someone was in low-paid employment or if they're working class, if they're a decent person with their own mind, and not some drone, then I'm cool with them. If on the other hand they're a cunt who works for The Man and screws over decent people regularly, then I'm NOT cool with them and they'll have to do a hell of a lot to redeem themselves in my eyes. All I care about really is whether someone is a good person or not, and also whether or not they have a mind and voice of their own. Title: Re: university students Post by: Danny Top Hat on February 25, 2007, 04:21:21 AM Yeah! :hihi:
define beneath u, who would that be? Chavs? The working class? People in low paid employment? They can all get into uni if they want to - they may have to work harder but the oppertunities are there. I make no apologies for my class and I make no apologies for getting an education. I struggle to understand why anyone would choose not to go to uni considering the alternative of going straight into full-time work for the rest of your life. Uni gives you options and the chance to better yourself so you're prepared for what's in store. Title: Re: university students Post by: Natasha23 on February 25, 2007, 06:47:23 AM You'll find pricks in every walk of life - students, doctors, teachers, NUNS (I went to catholic school for 12 years).
If someone is looking down their nose at you, it's because they feel badly about themselves. It's not about you (or anyone else), it's about them. Title: Re: university students Post by: Mr Rage on February 25, 2007, 09:25:57 AM Yeah! :hihi: define beneath u, who would that be? Chavs? The working class? People in low paid employment?
