The rock n' roll machine known as Guns N' Roses have announced that they will be hitting the road starting in April. The first leg of the Chinese Democracy World Tour 2007 will see GN'R performing in Japan, Thailand, South Africa, South America, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand.

2006 saw Guns N' Roses perform over 70 concerts all over the world to rave reviews. With the release of the highly anticipated Chinese Democracy album imminent, 2007 promises to be even busier and more exciting for the band and their loyal fans. When it comes to performing live, lead vocalist W. Axl Rose, guitarist Robin Finck, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, and Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboard players Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman, and drummer Frank Ferrer are a rock n' rock spectacular that have to be experienced to be believed.

For the very first time in their storied career, Guns N' Roses will be performing in South Africa. GN'R are scheduled to headline the My Coke Festival taking place in Johannesburg on April 27th and Cape Town on May 1st.

No I don't think so... I suppose this first leg to be rather short (around 20 shows?) and so they can release before it and have good promotion around the whole world. It won't hurt sales if they go on tour in EU or US half a year later...

Wonder how long this leg will run. Guess they don't want to miss out on the lucrative festival summer in Europe. Early June they come to our parts, I'm hoping. This could be good.

The crowds in those parts of the world will probably be insane. How long since they've been there? Decade and a half? Looking forward to some boots, hopefully at least one proshot.

I'm guessing they want to grab the festivals, so around 15 dates then go to Europe in June. No way there's going to be a long pause between leg 1 and 2 (7 and 8th? :hihi:)

They did the festivals last year. ?My guess is that when touring Europe behind an album that's actually been released, they'll want to make the tour about them (ie. no festivals, all their own shows). ?Whereas last year was just a taster to the masses, who may not necessarily have been fans at the time.

Possible, but with no word yet and the tour starting in 'starved' countries I'm guessing it's a deliberate tactic. You always want to hit either EU or US, the 2 big markets, when you tour on a new album.

It came from the 5FM site... in place of the part that says "brand new biography coming soon!", it says that. ?Seeing as they're the site that are promoting the My Cokefest, I'd say that came directly from GN'Rs PR people.

I dont think they will play any festivals in europe this summer. Many festivals are not booking the same band 2 years in a row..

GNR will focus on other parts of the world this summer....

Maybe late summer or fall.

well according to the htgth history tiimeline,

August 31st, 1991 - After shows in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany (the show in Oslo, Norway was cancelled) GN'R plays a show at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

November 7th, 1991 - Izzy Stradlin leaves GN'R. His replacement is Gilby Clarke (born August 17, 1962). Gilby, formerly of the band Kill For Thrills, had been playing the same clubs as GN'R.

December 5th, 1991 - The first show of the second US leg of the tour in Worcester, MA. with Soundgarden opening

there were no shows after uyi release until 2 an a half months later but that could'a been just Izzy leaving politics so who knows. they could release during the middle of any leg really. my guess is the labum will come out before April 27th acording to that being the first announced show in SA unless other shows are end up anounced and scheduled before April 27

Coming from a website promoting the festival means that they received that from GN'R. ?As far as I understand, whenever a band's biography is put on a site promoting a festival the band are playing, it either comes from the band's PR people or is given the go-ahead by them.

I believe he was making the point that it's not unprecedented for a band to not play any shows in the US or Europe at the time of an album release.

All things set aside, it's great that GN"R is performing in these foreign lands and ascending to the multinational level, in terms of international merit, that the band once had.

That was when GNR was the biggest thing around... Now they HAVE to tour in key markets in 2007... Just for a fighting chance... NA or Eroupe... They'd better anyway!

well people were whining about the album not coming out on any certain time scale because of these new circumstances so i was just looking back to see if theres any rhyme or reason how an album might be released around the scheduling of a tour. there appears to be none because the lack of touring around uyi might have been because of Izzy.

But I believe we should have heard something about the release date first.. Although if we hear tour dates and a release date from axl at the same time, assuming its soon, i'll be fine with that!

i doubt they`ll play the festivals again, but i`d be more than happy to see them again at rock am ring, as i`m going anyways... it`s definitely possible. korn and stone sour are playing the second time in a row as well...

To make a tour announcement before any announcing the album release date would be a misstep at this point.  Either the album news will hit first, or they'll be done together / one right after the other.

Either way, it's good news.

i agree except the brain thing. i dont know why but i have a funny feeling hes not coming back. and i think they would keep this on the DL until the release date is announced to try and keep the 'downer' news at a minimum for the hardcore fans. but announcing brain is gone and bucket is completely removed from the album AFTER a confirmed release date would be like a 'it doesnt matter' kind of thing by that time.

well if you think about it it's as simple as not answering a yes or no question with a yes or no. not trying to argue or claim he's not coming back. it's just we ALL know that guns members choose words carefully and it just looks funny to see a yes or no question not answered with a yes or no. in fact if that were a witness on the witness stand the lawyer questioning or the judge would say, 'Anser the question yes or no.' maybe that's why i'm stuck on it cuz i know law very well. like i said probably means nothing though

Great news for the long suffering fans in those markets... not sure it's the best of news for the album release... the cynic in me thinks that those markets represent the last possible places for GN'R to tour not in support of an album but rather on the "novelty" of it all... kind of like they have in NA and Europe. Maybe this one of those final neccessary steps that they feel like they have to go through before releasing CD...

Kind of like Axl has a few remaining corners of the world where he wants to prove that the new band can "play the fuck out of the old songs." Set lists will be interesting to say the least.

Highly likely. Remember that probably 90% of people attending these shows have never seen a GN'R concert so they'll want to hear the classics rather than the new songs. An album could change that though  : ok:

I'm sure there will be a press release before the tour starts announcing the line-up- including the drummer. Until then speculation is useless. Brain is famous for being sarcastic and cryptic in his responses anyway. Don't put much stock in what he says one way or the other.

Anyway- as far as we know- they're both official members- so you could just as easily see either of them at any given show.

I'll say it again... it may make more sense to most people to play the US or Europe when the album is released, but don't be surprised if they decide to play Hong Kong on release day.? Sort of like launching Chinese Democracy in China.

In 2002 the first date of the tour was in Hong Kong. ?It really surprised me that they managed to play a song called Chinese Democracy on a tour called the Chinese Democracy Tour in China. :rofl:

Could be. But that would be ballsy. Pissing off Chinese authorities is not something to be done for the sake of promotion. And if the album title at the end of the day really isn't a political commentary on China- but rather a metaphor for goings on in the band and Axl's life over the last 12 years (etc. as many of us suspect)- Axl would catch shit from the media for a cheap "promotion" gimmick like that. People die for shit like that.

Anyway, I like Latin America/South America as a good place to be touring when the album hits. They draw rabid fans in that market- and it's potentially double the exposure in the US (US media will be covering it for sure) with all spanish speaking media outlets in the US.

They did it in 2002, and everyone's still alive.

Hong Kong is quite different in many ways to the rest of China, primarly the language. To my knowledge Hong Kong has a cetain degree of freedom from China in relation to their own laws and the general running of the place, its a throw back to when the British ruled there. So prehaps Hong Kong may be more tolarent compared to the rest of China. ?;D

That's based on the fact that they kept getting tighter and tighter during the European tour. Then the North American shows were even better....

Also, the fans in some of the places they're gonna be playing in 2007 are really into GN'R and music in general.


Combine those two and you'll get amazing shows.

True. But they didn't release an album then. The world media will be all over CD whenever it's released. Do it while in Hong Kong with every media source in the world making reference to the fact Guns has got an album out "Chinese Democracy" and oh by the way... they' re playing in Hong Kong tonight... could be a recipe for trouble.

It is true that Hong Kong is different. Particularly economically. I have been told that the authorities remain highly suspicious of the other freedoms that the Hong Kong population remember from the British days though.

All I'm saying is that all it would take is one person to be negatively impacted by something like that combined with the album primarily being about Axl's 15 year-old Stephanie Seymour heart-ache and not Chinese politics... and Axl would get crucified.

I'm an avid fan of the original lineup, but man, the new band are fucking powerful live too!

I watched the Rock Am Ring performance again last night and the sounds and visuals on stage are just spectacular. I closed my eyes for a bit during some songs (Nightrain, You Could Be Mine) and I swear these guys sound tighter and heavier than the original guys that wrote the songs! :o
And Better, IRS and the Blues easily stand up against the back catalogue, especially at this show.

They should definitely announce a release date before another tour.  Or at least say there is no release date.  It would be horrible to release an album and not be prepared to tour the us or in the us to do promotion.  This album will sink or swim based on US sales and if they want to sell albums they need to be working nonstop on the pr.  Either they arent releasing the album for several months or they dont think they can sell in the us.

Forget the tour dates right now. How about the album to back them up?

It's cool that the people that haven't had the opportunity to see the new band will finally get that chance. You guys/gals are gonna get your faces rocked off!!

With that being said though, I really hope the cd is coming soon. I hope this isn't just another round of the same stuff we've been through before. After this leg they'll have played pretty much everywhere, so if the cd isn't out before or during this leg of the tour, it'll have to come out after. Either that, or it's back to another long silent period.

So I'll definitely go see these guys regeardless of the album being out or not. I think it will be a sell out, we in sydney atleast, Guns are becoming very fasionable lately. I see alot of kids with GN'R shirts and alot of cover bands doing Not as well known GN'R songs like Brownstone. So I recon regardless if the album is out or not by the time they get here, it will be huge.
But I dont think they'll do stadium Australia like U2, I dont even think they'll do the superdome. I recon atleast 1 night at the Ent Cent but maybe 2.

touring in spring is ok, for the recording should be done until april (if the record is not completed by now); but as we all know - it's the world of axl rose we are talkin about... everytime from 2001 on, touring (as we thought) brought us closer to the album only to delay the release even more in the end.

I wonder why Axl just dont replace him, I mean seriously.

I like Frank a lot better, he was more "into it" in my opinion. Getting the fans to chant GNR between songs and stuff. I just appriciate Frank more.

I think you're confusing drummers. I believe it was Josh Freese who was in GN'R before Brain, wrote the CD riff. Or so I've read anyway.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. These markets are ones he can get away with touring without the existance of any new album or material.

Any News like this is GOOD news. I always worry about Axl's health so to see the machine rolling in any way always makes me feel "Better".

Is it just me, or does anybody else think that having only one loose cannon on stage makes for a more controlled show. ?FWIW I don't have a preference for either line-up, I love the music. ?The fact there were several ego's on stage was either electric or on occasion,dangerous to the point that it was unhealthy. Of course at the time we were living on the edge, the excitement and what was clear it wasn't predictable. ?

I know this ?went a long way to being the point, it was dangerous and that in respect made the band stand out. ?If however if it was the music that was a driving factor for you, then you really wanted to hear a show, something that you get with the latest line-up. ?It is on this point that I think that CD will be a better album than AFD. ?That's a big ask but I really do believe that. ?My daughter grew up on AFD as a child and that's down to how much I love that album. ?This record is being done to the standards that Axl sets himself, as the master. ?

I do think that as such G n'R have become a more musical driven band, this becomes apparrent when you concider the trouble they go through to put on a show these days. The show's are tight and in my opinion more likely to get sold out, when a new fans audience hears the new music, rather than older fans remembering the days of old.

Thailand ... i didn't think Thai people were rock fans.... oh well hopefully the guys will unleash some new songs and for gods sake ...... CHANGE THE SETLIST!!!!!!

Um, ok... most of the original line-up that included Slash, Duff, Axl, along with Matt, Dizzy and Gilby played the biggest ever staged concert staged in Australia (at the time) in January 1993, which unfortunately I missed seeing.

being 22 and from australia i haven't seen gnr live before, so i really don't give a fuck what they play, i just wanna see the best rock band do there thing!, it's as simple as that, i mean do gnr have a bad song>? .........................well one.

Look, even if you can't fathom the idea of seeing GNR without Slash or Duff.  Go see this new band and you will be convinced, they play loud and hard as shit, and they play it with their heart into it as well.

people who actually GO SEE THE BAND LIVE don't care about that, they just want to attend a freakin good rock show.

i have been bitter at gnr many times, and let people know about it, it's just what i do,  australia having nothing in 14 years, you can kind of understand why, but thats all changing now.

Dude where not the only ones that  haven't had GN'R in our country for a long time. Lots of countries are having withdrawals to. Look at South Africa they have Never had Guns there so atleast we've had em twice and next time will be Better then any other time they have played our beautiful country.

Agree on the setlist, if the album is out, you may get one more song. I say they will play 6 new songs of a 20 song set-can't predict which new songs though since we don't know if the album will be out and we don't know what the single is. They get paid alot of money to play the classics and they are not going to risk losing that money to please a few hard core nuts like us. ;D

Yeah probable and that would be reasonable and good.
Most people there are yet to experience a show by this band.
next time they see the band, they may get a dramatically different set.
This leg can easily be the last chance to see them play many oldies.

BTW, Thai food rocks. ;D

A chilean promoter contacted the production company I work for to get Iggy Pop to play in a festival in Chile in  24th march. He said he is talking about booking Guns n' Roses to play there too. This festival will be sponsored by a beer company.
