Title: SLASH To Appear In New PAULINA RUBIO Video
Post by: FunkyMonkey on January 16, 2007, 11:38:50 PM
VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash makes a special appearance in PAULINA RUBIO's video for "Nada Puede Cambiarme", the second single from the Mexican singer and actress' 2006 Spanish-language album "Ananda". The song, which was written by Fernando Montesinos, features Slash on guitar, and is the follow-up to Rubio's last single, "Ni Una Sola Palabra", which reportedly topped the charts in Mexico and Spain.

The "Nada Puede Cambiarme" clip was filmed in Los Angeles on January 9 and was directed by Dago Gonz?lez. In the video, Paulina appears as a bride dressed in pink.

If youve always thought Slash was cool, youd probably be aware that Slash has always done projects such as this.

And The Legend would never be heard from ever again.

I've always loved Slash, I think he is an awsome guitar player but it has always pissed me off that he seems to play with everyone around. Playing with Dylan....cool Michael Jackson so-so (remember he played with him before the first kiddy scandal....but still). Iggy Pop fuckin' cool....this chick unless he's bangin' her what for ? (I've seen her, she's hot as hell). He's played with a shitload more people but I'm tipsy and can't remember> I do remember Axl being pissed off about this around 94-96.

maybe Paulina let him hear the song, asked to play lead on it, he liked it, and so he agreed........who gives a flying fuck what Slash does

.......................................................................

Personally, i'd like him to give the recordings of him, Izzy, Duff and Matt b4 Scott was in the fold, and give it Christina Aguilera, to see what she can do vocally  :-\

She was a fan of GnR and according to them, it's the best GnR album ever :D

Because that's what guitarists do. Look at Carlos Santana, he's played with everybody and their mother.

To each his own I guess, I haven't heard the song or seen the video so I can't say for sure. Personally, I really like some of Slash's oustside contributions and other I couldn't care less if I ever heard them again.

Pepole probally said that when they first heard Slash was going to play on Elan's cd, and looked how that turned out. That is some of Slash's most remarkable efforts, I my opinion anyways.

For the people calling Slash a sell-out, well I wonder what their opinion is of Richard Fortus when he  played for n-sync ?  I look at Richard's choice as a means of paying the bills, or perhaps he just likes n-sync, who knows.

Truth is Slash has palyed with a diverse group of musicians, whether it be Ray Charles or MotorHead, and will continue to do so with or without "our" approval.

ricarhd didnt played for n'sync
he played for a producer that sell the song to n'sync...
and the big difference is that slash have the money to pay  the bills he wants, richard doesnt had the money and also he is a STUDIO PLAYER.. that was his job
he doesnt contribute, he is payed to play.. just like josh freese

Ok what the hell does  that have to do with anything? He only played on their albums to pay the bills and it was session work. It's not like he actually wanted to play with those guys. Slash on the other hand chooses to play with pop stars. That's the difference.

Nobody is forced to play with anybody.  The difference is not that one chooses to play with pop singers - they both made that choice.  Plenty of guitarists have "bills to pay," not all of them play with pop singers, so thats not the difference.  I dont think anybody here knows how financially comfortable either one is.  You could assume, but you could also be wrong.

What Slash does with these artists is session work as well.  Hes made it very clear that he enjoys working often and with many different musicians - hes done it for years and these appearences are perfectly consistent with that philosophy.  It also means that many of his fans wont be crazy about every choice.

When you make your living as a session musician (as Richard did back then) you have to go where the work is. And sometimes, yes, you are forced to play for people you wouldn't normally play for just to pay the bills. It's the same thing as you or I working for a boss you don't like just to get by. You have to suck it up and do what you gotta do. And if you think Richard was rich back then your nuts. I've read interviews from him from back around 2000 (when he was doing the Psychedelic Furs tour) where he said he had to play with these pop artists just to pay his rent and put food on the table. I really really doubt slash was in the same situation when he was doing pop artist sessions...

No, youre not.  Its a choice.  The reasons differ for each, but its still a choice.

I didnt say Fortus was rich; I have no clue about his finances then or now.  The same goes for Slash, actually.  Like I said, the reasons for each guitarists choice differ: Fortus may have done it strictly for money while Slash might be more interested in the experience itself, doing it as a favor, etc. but neither has to do it.  Thats common sense.

It seems that youre implying that Slashs motives are somehow less respectable than someone who is desperate for money, but Im not sure why.

Who cares who Slash works with? He is Slash so he's well respected enough throughout the world to be asked to help people out and hes a decent enough guy to do so. If anyone knew who Richard Fortus was they might ask him as well.

As long as hes still working with Duff etc on the new kick ass VR album thats all you should be worried about.

Good for you. I agree that AFD is one of the greatest albums ever, sales, tours, popularity etc confirm that.

This discussion isnt about Fortus and his incredible session work, its about Slash and his work.

I appreciate that you think whatever he is on is the best thing ever and your entitled to that opinion. All I originally said was that Slash is asked to guest on peoples records because he is a world renowned musician and everybody knows him and that Richard isnt. Im hardly lying am I.

I really can't understand all the slash hate given this is a GNR site.

Ok...i get that slash hasn't been in GNR for many years now, and that those who are happy with the current GNR line up get defensive or offended when people call for his return.

However thats a different thing to the general level of hate and slash bashing that seems to go on around here these days.

I mean...its not like slash was some session guitarist for GNR - he composed a lot of the solos and stuff , was in the band for many years, and plays on all the albums we currently have.

Anyway...back on topic....slash is a musician and has always played with various people in different styles of music when he felt he could add something to the song. Sometimes i've loved these, sometimes they wern't to my exact taste...but its cool that he deiversifies and tries new things...and most of the time he kicks ass at them IMO.

Anyway...and to the guy who said he thought slash was cool till this. Well....who you work with isn't what makes a person cool....and just take a look at the guy....he's been one of the coolest mofos around for like 30 years now....lol

I remember watching The Tonight Show with Leno and Paulina was performing.  I hardly ever watch the musical guests unless it's someone I like.

But she's sooo hot and knows how to use a mic stand.   I'm guessing she's a fan of GN'R and asked Slash to join.  It's not like Slash is replying to wants ads or anything.

Plus, musicians need inspiration for their work.  If it needs to come from a Spanish pop album, so be it.

He played with Nena  ;D

I have to be honest here, but Fortus is a damn good guitar player. Fame alone doesn't say that much. Slash needed Axl to become famous, and you need to have a name before you can start playing with other big artists. Lenny Kravitz and Micheal Jackson wouldn't have known Slash if it wasn't for Guns and Roses.

[edit]
And I just wanted to add that I like Slash as well. I don't think it's fair to dis either of them.

session work (fortus) and collaboration (slash) are very very very different
in session you are forced to do what the producer wants.. for anyone, collaborations are free and by your own choice

Who the hell was Axl Rose before Slash came into his life? Last I checked neither of them hit it big until they found eachother, and Duff, Izzy and Steven. Some people have consumed a little too much of the Kool-aid over the years in terms of the Messiahnic qualities they have assigned to Axl.

I know this, but last I checked no one outside of LA knew who they were until the Appetite line-up came together. That only bolsters the point further that it wasn't all Axl responsible for making the others famous, because he was playing dive bars with Izzy until the other 3 came along and they took over the world.

His mug would have been all over MTV if the pre-Duff/Slash/Steven stuff was any good. Fame didn't come until they all came together, not the other way around as the original poster was trying to make it seem.

And some people just happen to be one (not referring to you...).

I think I know who you're talking about  :hihi:

I saw it on youtube a couple of days ago and although I'm a huge fan of Slash, it's pure crap and Slash should have rejected the offer. The problem isn't with his playing: Slash does what he usually does as a guest musician: a quick improvisation. (I remember that Lemmy interview where he said that Slash came to play something on their record, and he hadn't heard the song but sat down and played a cool solo while hearing the song for the first time.) But with this Paulia Rubio song he touched the bottom. It's a shame he contributed to this.

while watching the video......what crossed my mind is that slash and his image has become something like a brand, if you know what I mean......

the artist will say .....my record will do ok, but if I "buy " Slash to play my record I will boost my popularity......and I mean popularity, there was no real focus on the solo itself.

Guns N Roses existed before Slash for you information

but weren't they Hollywood Rose than?  and if you listened to them; they sounded nothing like the GnR we all came to know and love ;D

just cause there was GnR before Slash; doesn't meam they were particularly good :hihi:

that so god damn correct :hihi: i probably love finck more then slash (don't bash me) but really it seems like the lovers of new-gnr are hating on slash, they should pay him some respect instead of saying there was a gnr before slash true, the bands name was gn'r before slash came but that's kinda it

This song and video sucks.

Slash's solo is not that good, it could be one taken a song from The Calling.

It's sad Slash went for this ...

I would say I strongly disagree with you but eceryone is entitled to their own opinion.....no matter how misguided ;D :hihi:

I just have finished watching the complete video

sad. really sad.

What is REALLY sad is that the song, even when it sucks, is better and much more catchy than Slash's solo.

sha la la la la la, escrib? esta cancion por si tu regresabas!

Well then I think you should follow you're own advice. You can stay in this section because clearly that's where you belong.

I can't speak for JB, but for me I don't see what would be gained from it. A new album? How long would that take, if ever? A tour? Sure would be nice, but I'd rather see the new band do their thing for as long as they can with new material.

The original lineup is dead and having the same guys on stage again won't bring it back.

No, I meant: why the fuck did he post this tidbit of braindump in this thread? I don't think it has anything (at all) to do with the subject, right? I meant: if he's always (and I do mean always) picking on people to "either get on board or fuck off", why does he need to bring it up here?
