Title: "Libertad" mentioned in the latest issue of Rolling Stone (2/8/07 issue)

Superstars Rule 2007

Velvet Revolver
Libertad
Due Out May

"The fist record kind of hit you over the head with a hammer," says Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan.  "This record is more organic."  Among the standout tracks on the Brendan O'Brien-produced disc is "Messages," about 9/11 victims leaving phone messages for their loved ones.  "It's not your typical love ballad," says McKagan.  "It's more cerebral."

unless slash stands on top of the statue of liberty or something over the top and solos i dont want those type of ballads, i dont mind the type of songs they did on contraband which were slow, they were more in the gnr vein, for some reason i like all gnrs slow songs even though i usually hate slow songs.

Though lynyrd skynyrd have some good ones.

i agree, don't hate love ballads, but most of them don't "touch" me the way meaningful ballads do

You can actually hear part of the song in VR's second vblog,  and you can see some of the lyrics from Scott's song book.

It's on their offical web site.

It's only a short tidbit but the melody sounds greats.

Thanks for the post,

DH

Sounds interesting - I'll give VR this, they've definitely got me intrigued with this record... Curiosity is building!

Yeah I'm excited to hear what they can produce without the crazy time restraints imposed by Scott's rehab.  Also they're able to write more as a unit now instead of just presenting Scott with the finished product for him to sing over.  I'm all for them doing slower ballad type songs but they have got to do better than "Fall to Pieces."  That song was decent at best.  Even live it didn't cut it.

I still want to see what this band is capable of.

Just listening to STP's Core and the album is absolutely superb. Scott sounds great on it. Now with Slash, Duff, Matt and Dave's songwriting and playing they should be able to make something really interesting.

Contraband was rushed too much I think.
