Title: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: ROSE on January 28, 2007, 06:58:45 AM Hi,
I was thinking of buying a laptop to replace my desktop PC and I have a few questions you guys might be able to help me with: 1. Is it a good idea in general? 2. If I'am going to use it for the following: Internet, Word Processing etc, Copying cd/dvd's and gameing, what sort of memory, Harddrive and graphics would it need to have? 3. What makes are considered the best?? Appreciate the help. : ok: Title: Re: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: Prometheus on January 28, 2007, 01:06:00 PM

but if you dont : - take your computer with you to class / job / vacation often - like to move around your huge house to type your blog entries in the kitchen, living room, jacuzzi room, upstairs - want to have a clean " i love mac os x icons " design desk then go for desktop with big screen Title: Re: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: Genesis on January 28, 2007, 01:56:10 PM ^ Yeah, buy a laptop only if you need it. Otherwise it isn't worth the extra cost. Get a better desktop.
Title: Re: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: jabba2 on January 28, 2007, 02:00:33 PM Desktops always have the most recent technology, notebooks are mobile but ones with good graphic cards are expensive ($1500 for a low end gaming card that can play newest releases) Nvidia is clearly the most powerful graphics cards for laptops, Dell probably has the best prices for them.
My notebook has everything (X2 processor, dual channel RAM) except a good gaming card. but was only $734 shipped. Title: Re: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: anythinggoes on January 28, 2007, 02:01:11 PM well i brought a laptop last week and also a copy of Quake 4 out of the 4 settings for Graphics i can use the first 3 but not the last highest, but even setting 3 looks really nice, i have the bonus of having a desktop as well though so copying DVDs and videos id no hassle to me, i brought it so i could keep my lazy ass in bed longer ?:hihi:

Title: Re: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: Megaguns on January 28, 2007, 03:54:24 PM I replaced my desktop with a notebook. I find it really annoying that the keyboard is so close to the screen. Plus i dont type too well, so the miniturised keyboard is a hassle, Many typos.
Plus, another downside is that you should still plug in your old desktop speakers if you intend to listen to music loud, because the built ins burn out quick cos theyre too small. Title: Re: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: MadmanDan on January 28, 2007, 06:12:31 PM I hate laptops...of course, ther mobility makes them very useful, but everything's so fuckin small !! I want a real screen, a nice big keyboard, not that little crowded little thing
Title: Re: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: ROSE on January 29, 2007, 02:10:25 PM Thanks for the comments guys : ok:, not sure if they have helped or confussed me even more . But I guess the idea is, only if you need a Laptop, buy one. Would getting a second hand Laptop be a even bigger mistake. Keep the desktop and have the laptop for easy mobility.
Title: Re: Laptops versus Desktop PC's Post by: Irish rose on January 29, 2007, 03:47:22 PM definitely get a desktop unless you need to carry a laptop around. I bought a laptop a few months ago and i much prefer my pc...he keyboard and screen is better and i just prefer it all around.
