Title: Using the PC tracker
Post by: gav on January 21, 2007, 03:20:59 PM
Sorry but I am very new to using bittorrent, but I want to get ready for the Dec 20th show being on the tracker!

I'm trying to download/upload athe Baltimore show now to get some practice in, but my d'load speed is about 10kbs and my upload speed about 4kbs.

I know I'm new to this and I've read that my speeds should increase but I wanted to ask a couple of qus:

1) what is a good or average d/load speed?
2) how canI increase my d'load speed?

Thanks

what torrent client are you using to download on?
i see that baltimore has 6 seeds. and 3 peers. you've only been downloading for 45 minutes.
that torrent is almost 8gb so give it time. the more seeds the faster the download.

Depends on your line speed? I have a 512/128 ADSL connection and my max is about 52kBps down and 13 kBps up.
What is your line speed?

Depends on which client you are using, I recommend ?Torrent http://www.utorrent.com/
Turn off DHT if it is enabled this will only slow it down.
Set your upload limit to about 80% of your max upload speed.
Forward the ports if you are behind a router or similair device.

personally i think you should better worry about your bad upload speed then the downloadspeed. put your DOWNloadspeed around 75% and UPloadspeed to MAX..that way you can easily keep a healthy SHAREratio and you won't be kicked for leeching.

It's a mystery! But it keeps happening all the time really.. but I think there's nothing wrong with it though.
