Title: Hell Yeah(Vinnie Paul's new band) Post by: BLS-Pride on January 17, 2007, 03:19:32 AM HELLYEAH, the new band featuring former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott alongside members of MUDVAYNE and NOTHINGFACE, will release its self-titled debut album on April 10 via Epic Records.
The quintet includes three of hard rock's most revered and valuable players, with careers highlighted by an astonishing run of chart-topping gold and platinum albums, major industry awards, critical acclaim, Grammy nominations and music of monolithic power. "Tom [Maxwell, NOTHINGFACE; guitar], Jerry [Montano, DANZIG, NOTHINGFACE; bass] and I have been talking about working together ever since we staggered through the streets of New Orleans five years ago," says MUDVAYNE/HELLYEAH vocalist Chad "Helvis" Gray. "I mentioned it to Greg [Tribbett, MUDVAYNE; guitar] and he immediately wanted in, and when Vinnie came on board the whole thing just took on a life of its own. This was a must-do project for all of us." "The guys from HELLYEAH and the incredible music we've created have brought me back to what I love," states Vinnie. "'HellYeah' is the best record I've collaborated on since [PANTERA's] 'Vulgar Display of Power'. The vibe is ?positive with a kick-your-ass-attitude.' I can't wait to take this band on tour." Gray and Tribbett will tour in support of the HELLYEAH debut in between recording the new MUDVAYNE album. The follow-up to 2004's blockbuster release, "Lost And Found", which debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Top 200, is due this fall and finds the Grammy-nominated quartet working once again with producer Dave Fortman (EVANESCENCE, SUPERJOINT RITUAL). "It's cool to have both MUDVAYNE and HELLYEAH as creative outlets now, even though the approach, subject matter, and attitudes between the two projects are completely different," says Gray. "I'm looking forward to balancing both bands in my life ? my new extremely busy life." A nine-minute video of HELLYEAH writing and recording its self-titled album in Dallas, Texas has been posted online at YouTube.com. Two songs from the CD ? "Hellyeah" and "Matter of Time" ? are available for listening on the band's MySpace page. Title: Re: Hell Yeah(Vinnie Paul's new band) Post by: Malcolm on January 31, 2007, 01:25:51 PM Former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott recently spoke to Chris Harris of MTV.com about the formation of his new band, HELLYEAH, also featuring NOTHINGFACE members Jerry Montano (bass) and Tom Maxwell (guitar) alongside MUDVAYNE's Chad Gray (vocals) and Gregg Tribbett (guitar).
"Since May of last year, I started getting phone calls from Jerry, who I've known for a long time, just saying that they planned on putting something together and they needed a heavy hitter ? they needed me," the drummer explained. "And I was like, 'Man, I'm so busy with my record company, and I don't know if I'm really ready to do this again' and all that. And after about seven or eight calls, he finally caught me one night when I was in the right frame of mind. I had been drinkin' and listening to some music, and I said, 'You know what? Let's give this thing a shot.' The next day, I talked to everybody in the band, and everyone was so super cool and had the same mindset." According to Vinnie, HELLYEAH's self-titled debut, which drops April 10, is "the best record I've been a part of since [PANTERA's 1992 classic] 'Vulgar Display of Power'," he said. "The thing that makes me feel that way about it is, when we made 'Vulgar', it was just magic. It happened. Everybody's mindset was in the right place. After that record, we never had that same vibe. We still made amazing records, but there were all these forces pulling us in different directions. So when we made [the HELLYEAH] record, I had that same kind of feeling. It was just too easy. Everybody was into it. And I feel these songs are that strong, and I think everybody brought something special to the table. "It's just a special record," he added, "and I really believe we're gonna be f---ing kick-ass live. We haven't done any live shows yet, but I know that everybody comes from a band that's been known as a kick-ass live band. So I know the five of us together are going to make some hellacious noise." Abbott said HELLYEAH will tour extensively this year but that they're still mapping things out. Playing this summer's Ozzfest would make perfect sense for HELLYEAH, considering all the bandmembers have taken the festival's stage before. And if Sharon Osbourne extended an offer, the band would gladly take her up on it, Abbott said. "We will definitely be on tour all summer, and we're definitely looking forward to it," he said. "Ozzfest would be awesome. That's all I can say about that. I'm a veteran of Ozzfest. Everybody knows it's the premier summer tour, so if we were offered to be a part of that, that would just be super, man." Although no explanation was given for Jerry Montano's departure, the group's publicist told Headbangers Ball Blog yesterday that "personal reasons on both sides" caused him to leave. HELLYEAH drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, who played with Bob Zilla in DAMAGEPLAN alongside Vinnie's late brother "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, told MTV in January, "I told Bob after [Dimebag was murdered] that no matter what happens, I'm gonna find a way to play in a band with him again because me and him are just bros. It was kind hard to go ahead and commit to this band without Bob being part of it, but since Jerry was the bass player it was already set in place. And Bob's been really cool and understanding. And he's doing his tattoo shop in Texas right now. And some point in the future, we'll probably play together again." Title: Re: Hell Yeah(Vinnie Paul's new band) Post by: Malcolm on May 18, 2007, 02:20:18 PM Launch Radio Networks reports: HELLYEAH, featuring members of MUDVAYNE, PANTERA and NOTHINGFACE, begins its first headlining tour on Sunday (May 20) in Baltimore. The group is touring in support of its self-titled debut album, which came out last month. While the members of HELLYEAH aren't sure if they'll play songs from their other bands, singer Chad Gray ? who also fronts MUDVAYNE ? said they may pull out some other surprises. "We might do some covers, I don't know," he said. "You never know, like, kind of the vibe of this thing. I mean, you never know, we might break out a GUNS N' ROSES cover, we might break out a SKYNYRD, or hell, you never know, maybe some SLAYER. So, I mean, there's a lot of different things that this band represents, you know. It's just really all about having a good time. This is about giving people something to move to."
Title: Re: Hell Yeah(Vinnie Paul's new band) Post by: Malcolm on May 21, 2007, 08:37:14 AM HELLYEAH, the new band featuring former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott alongside members of MUDVAYNE and NOTHINGFACE, kicked off its "Fire It Up" tour Sunday night (May 20) in Baltimore. The group's setlist was as follows:
01. Hellyeah 02. Matter of Time 03. Goddamn 04. Stone Cold Crazy (QUEEN cover) 05. Thank You 06. Waging War 07. Nausea 08. One Thing 09. In The Mood/Star 10. Rotten To The Core 11. Alcohaulin' Ass 12. You Wouldn't Know Bob Suehs of Rock N Roll Experience, who attended the concert, commented in his review: "I've personally covered too many shows at this venue to even remember them all, and in all that time, I've NEVER seen security as tight as it was at this particular show! I had a photo pass and I even went through a very detailed search...entrance into the venue was slow because of this, but I assume it was the necessary precaution that Vinnie wanted after the tragic situation he experienced, and to be totally honest with you, I don't blame him, and it almost reminded me of the strict airplane security after 9/11. I will be really curious to see if any bootlegs pop up from this tour, because the only other act I recall seeing with super tight security like this in recent years was MARILYN MANSON during the height of the band's career." Another touching moment was, during a down minute where the band was getting ready for the next song, the crowd began to chant VINNIE, VINNIE, & Vinnie Paul seemed touched, then the crowd went into a DIMEBAG, DIMEBAG chant & Vinnie pointed up to the sky & Chad replied that Dime was watching down on them...that was just a surreal moment & it showed the unity amongst the real metal fans. "Well, finally the HELLYEAH tour has begun. Baltimore was the lucky first spot ? and Tom's [Maxwell, guitar] hometown ? so it was the perfect choice to bust our cherry! The venue, Ram's Head Live, was one of the most kick-ass live venues I have ever been too... state of the art. "We all came in for sound check at 3 PM. and, as usual, when we started it sounded like shit and I could tell that everyone was nervous. We hung with it and nearly did the whole set, but got it done and everyone felt really good about it. "Then it was show time. The venue filled nicely and early chants of 'HELLYEAH' could be heard from the crowd. This was a great sign and I knew we were gonna have a great show. The evening was kicked off by Jagermeister's Baltimore band, BEYOND THE SCAR. They did a nice job and had some cool grooves. "Next up was BLOODSIMPLE, this band on Chad Gray's label Bullygoat Records, and we got a kick outta hearing their new stuff. It killed. We started our backstage warm-up, which included hitting some shots and brews, listening to some cool old-school metal and just going over the song endings that we worked up from rehearsals. "The security man Krusher comes in and says, 'It's time to hit the deck fellas.' The crowd was chanting 'HELLYEAH! HELLYEAH! HELLYEAH!' and the venue was packed to the rafters. I gotta say, for the first time in my life I had butterflies. "We kicked into our title track and theme song 'Hellyeah' and the room was full of energy and singing along, which was a surprise since the record had only been out a month... We grinded through 'Matter of Time' and 'Goddamn'. Then we got to the only cover we do, QUEEN's classic 'Stone Cold Crazy' ? which we appropriately changed to 'Stone Cold Wasted' ? and it went down great. "We only have one record, so we played all 12 tracks, ending with 'Alcohaulin' Ass' and 'You Wouldn't Know'. Once again, the 'HELLYEAH' chant went up as we left the stage. It was truly an amazing night and I will never forget it. THANK YOU BALTIMORE! "We also offered to autograph our CDs for our fans if they bought it at the venue. We didn't know we would sell all 120 CDs and would stick around for another hour and half signing, meeting and greeting, but it was worth it, as our new found friends made us feel right at home." Remaining HELLYEAH tour dates: May 27 - Madison, WI - Barrymore Theater May 29 - Denver, CO - Fillmore Auditorium May 30 - Omaha, NE - Sokel Auditorium Jun. 01 - Wichita, KS - Cotillion Jun. 02 - Tulsa, OK - Cains Ballroom Jun. 03 - Lubbock, TX - Southbeach Jun. 05 - Corpus Christi, TX - Pavilion Title: Re: Hell Yeah(Vinnie Paul's new band) Post by: F*ck Fear on May 28, 2007, 07:49:00 AM Damageplan played Walk I belive...Hellyeah prob will to New Level Walk Becoming Damageplan played those songs when I seem em live. ChartAttack.com: Did you guys [HELLYEAH] make a conscious decision to make a more straight-up rock record as opposed to a heavy record like DAMAGEPLAN or PANTERA? Vinnie: The two most important things to me for this record were I wanted everything to have a really kick-ass groove to it that you can tap your foot to or bang your head or mosh to or whatever and have really great songs ? songs that people will remember. ChartAttack.com: Why did you guys decide to join the Family Values tour? Vinnie: They invited us to be a part of it. We wanted this band to play to as many people as possible. Going out doing a headliner as a brand new band is really tough, you only reach 500, 600, maybe 1,000 people a night, whereas being part of a big package tour like that there's an opportunity to play for anywhere between 10,000 to 20,000 people a night. We really felt like this music was made for the masses and that's what we want to do is bring it to as many people as possible. ChartAttack.com: Will you get involved in any other musical projects when the other HELLYEAH guys go back to their bands? Vinnie: The main thing is I'm really going to listen to a lot of demos this summer while I'm out because I really am interested in signing a band or two to my label that I really feel has something new and different to offer and putting them out. When those guys get done touring for the MUDVAYNE and NOTHINGFACE records, we'll get back together and do HELLYEAH II as soon as we can because everybody is really fired up about it, and they all come from great bands so we'll see where it goes from there. ChartAttack.com: You mentioned your label, Big Vin Records. Do you have any upcoming releases? Vinnie: The only thing that's really in the works is "Dimevision II". We're looking for a fourth-quarter release. I also got this comedian that I love called The Chinaman. I'm working on his DVD that we're going to get out pretty soon. That's where it kind of sits right now. ChartAttack.com: Any unreleased DAMAGEPLAN, PANTERA or Dimebag material? Vinnie: I've got all the demos that me and Dime were working on before everything had happened, and we felt like it was some of the best music we'd ever written and we were really excited about it. We felt like it was going to get us back to a place of recognition like we were with PANTERA. I would think people would definitely want to hear that music and we'll get it out, but right now I'm really focused on HELLYEAH and seeing where this goes. And once this runs its course for this particular record then I'll look at some of those demos. ChartAttack.com: I don't want to talk too much about the past because what needed to be said has already been said. But what I haven't heard anything about is your relationship with former PANTERA bassist Rex Brown. Do you still have relationship with him? Vinnie: Not really. The bridges and the family and everything were destroyed back in 2001. It's kind of hard to have any reason to want to speak to either one of those guys [Rex and former PANTERA vocalist Phil Anselmo]. I just leave it at that. I'm moving on with my life and I'm sure they're moving on with theirs and that's how that's going to be.
