Title: Beautiful Disease Appreciation Thread!!!
Post by: Chief on December 24, 2006, 09:56:35 PM
who has this one? its Duff's original 2nd solo cd but was shelved by the label. I think its excellent and i just pulled it out after a long time and its sounds really good. great songs, great production and I believe it features guest appearances by Izzy and Slash. oh yeah, one of the songs is a tribute to West Arkeen too!

I hope duff has more input into the next VR cd, because he is really good!

That album possibly is my all time favorite, very good...It is a shame that it got shelved, prior to the merger of labels when Duff was starting promo for the record, the local alt.rock station was playin Then and Now quite often..I would like to see Duff do a lead vocal on the new VR cd. : ok:

Duff should definetely sing on the next album a bit, he's great on the Spaghetti Incident.

I just got hold of beautiful disease, it's pretty ace.

yeah it's a very cool album, but i hate it if i look like a wannabe mod right now, but i can never understand what his or any others solorecords has to do with VR, it really should be in the ex-gunners section but that seems to be only my opinion

Duff, matt and slash are in VR hence this is in the VR section...although I see your point when, postings about Tommy's solo album are moved when posted in the Guns section.... :-\

... they are?  As far as I remember there was a stickied thread dedicated to Tommy's album and tour and there is constantly posts about Hookers N' Blow gigs in the GN'R section..  It's organized fine!

Comparing my track listing to what it says on the Wikipedia, I do in fact have all the tracks from the album.

I don't have one of the promo copies, but Limewire did it well enough for me.  ;D  When trying to get it, there were lots of those fake files (usually WMA) that were about 1,000 to 2,500 Kb.  So, yeah, it was a pain in the ass...but it's SOOO much better than his first solo release.

The album is really good but I'm sure it would have gotten lost in the shuffle like Neurotic Outsiders' album did.  Most people who I have played both albums for really loved them and went out and bought them or downloaded them.  For whatever reason record labels got really terrible at properly promoting rock records in the 90s.  Duff deserved better treatment.  Oh yeah, I found Beautiful Disease on Demonoid.

Yup demonoid served me nicely as well.  Should still be there, i'm still seeding it out to peeps.

I don't really like Hope, Song for Beverley, and one other one I can't remember the name of. Otherwise, it's pretty good and I listen to it a lot.

its Duff's original 2nd solo cd

as you say yourself this is about duffs solo career. i'm not being a wannabe mod thank you guys very much, but come on this section should be about VR and not be full of duff, slash solo careers or neurotic outiseders but that's clearly only my opinion.

and yeah btw it's a cool record

If VR's second record is better than their first, maybe that'll change.  As for now, there are two Duff solo albums (one unreleased) plus numerous other Duff projects (Neurotic, Loaded, etc.), Slash projects (Snakepit, and efforts on others' albums), and so on.  The number of VR members non-VR projects far exceeds what VR have put out, at this time.  So, it doesn't surprise me when this section is full of that stuff.

I love this album!

I originally got it in MP3 form from a friend online and was completely blown away.  I love all the songs but esspecially the last 3, Rain, Beautiful Disease and Mezz.  Seattle Head is brilliant as well and would have made a great 1st single.

After that I got really lucky and managed to find a promo copy on ebay for just ?38!

I just wish it had been released.  Its an incredible album and its a major diservice to Duff that so many people don't know about it.  Esspecially since it leaves a lot of people juding his entire solo career on Believe In Me.  Which is good but doesn't stand up to his other stuff.

just alittle info thing,
MEZZ is actually a 10 Minute Warning song. just changed lyrics. the 10mw version is cool, butt duff's version is waaay better than 10MW! duff's a great vocalist, if you ask me.

anyway's duff rule!

Accoridng to Duff's fanclub magazine his version of Mezz is taken from an alternate demo of the TMW version, and obvious re-recorded, so there are slight diffrences in the music as well as the lyrics.

Which reminds me, this is a really good site for info about the album:

I'm not convinced the version of BD that's circulating with a cover is legit, but I don't know much about the market.  I know the advance CD was released to media by Geffen and some mags received cover art separately, but they were never packaged together.   I always doubted the news that it was released in Japan on MCA almost a year later, I don't see how or why Geffen would have done that.   And the versions I've seen on eBay with a cover also show a blank green CD from what I can see, looks like a bootleg to me.

I'm not sure about the one that sold for $250 on eBay last month, listed here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Duff-McKagan-Beautiful-Disease-CD-Rare-guns-n-roses-HTF_W0QQitemZ170204772000QQihZ007QQcategoryZ307QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Does anyone know the origins for sure?

I've got the original CD pressed by Geffen and there's no front cover, just the track listing on the back and the disc with the title, etc, stamped with 'Advance'.   (I know it's legit, somebody in Duff's camp sent it to me before the Geffen release date was pulled).

I'd love to see the one Duff was selling at the show.  (Which show?  Loaded?)

This is the one I don't think is legit...

This version is for sure legit:

It's my fav GN'R-member release, really too bad it was got in the Geffen sell-off crunch.

That's right, the first one is a fake, the second one is real. I've got it aswell.
A few years ago a girl called Lori Lepper had a great Duff McKagan board and site: http://duffmckaganonline.tripod.com/ (http://duffmckaganonline.tripod.com/), approved by Duff himself.
If I recall correctly there were plans for Duff to sell Beautiful Disease through the site but unfortunatelly Lori was killed.

WOW! i got the CD it is awensome!!!, Duff recorded all instruments and vocals on the album, by himself, with the addition of guests Mike Bordin (Faith No More/Ozzy Osbourne) and ex-Guns N' Roses members Slash and Izzy Stradlin. On tour, McKagan was joined by Dez Cadena of Black Flag, Taz Bentley of the Burden Brothers and Michael Barragan of Loaded and Plexi. My favorites ..."Put You Back" (Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin)-"Hope" "mezz" of course "Seattle head" and "Beautiful Disease"  : ok: ...And I really love the cover, i like the pic...and the promo session magazine pics....when it came out ,coincidentially was a happier moment in my personal life, so i have a very very cool sensation with this particulary Duff work....I love it!!! ;D
