Title: Fall Out Boy pays tribute to GNR (or something like that)

Watch from the 3:15 mark to the 3:30 mark and see what you recognize.   :hihi:

I'm not sure if they're paying a small tribute to Guns N Roses or if they're trying to make some kind of statement about how "overblown" GNR became with the Illusion albums.  (Of course, "overblown" is not my opinion, but that's how many critics and such view the albums and videos.)  I say this because the theme of the video is about rising to fame and then at the end they are getting back on their crappy tour bus that they started with.

Ugh you are really stretching there to make a hole lot out of that.

I think the premis of the video is that after there first, they are all rich and famous now and stars..

I think the reference to "Slash Part" ?was just that... ? ?Compairing themselfs to someone who is rich and famous and plays guitar... ?

I think it is all tougue and cheek and they mean nothing bad buy it.

But...

Did you notice the references?   8)

I'm not stretching anything.  There was a Slash reference and then also the whole funeral thing, with the dude waking up in the coffin at the end.  And the guitarist on the coffin was in the exact same stance that Slash is in during the November Rain video outside the church.

It's obvious they are referencing the November Rain video, but I wasn't sure if it was just a slight tribute, or if they were doing the cool kid thing these days and making fun of 80s over the top rock.

Or the estranged video where slash rises out of the water..

Well yeah, but it's the whole funeral scene too, so I assumed it was only a November Rain thing.   :)

Oh, I just realized it's the Don't Cry video where he sits up like that at the end.  So it could be the entire trilogy, I guess...

Who cares, I just thought it was a cool enough reference.   :)

It amazes me what passes for popular music these days.

What is this stuff? Who really likes this shit...?

Or it could be the latest Avenged Sevenfold video, which includes a scene almost identical to that one. Would make more sense than some stretched out, vague GN'R thing only a handful of people can read into coming from a band that never made subtlety and intelligence one of its main draws. The top hat, if we want to get technical, can either just be a) a top hat for the purpose of wearing one or b) ripping off Avenged Sevenfold while making fun of A7X "ripping off" GN'R at the same time.

Wow, did someone turn the SUCK up in here?

If that's a reference, let alone a homage, to any of the GNR videos mentioned, then I totally don't see it.

And considering that is the first time I've earnestly listened to Fall Out Boy, I feel really bad for the youth out there. Those guys are like what Winger or Slaughter or Poison was 20 years ago.

he only wore the tophat for like 5 seconds, and imo he looked more like that emo douchebag in panic at the disco than slash.  i dont think any fan of fall out boy would even recognize this if it was a tribute or whatever to GNR.  damn what a crappy song i had to sit thru 3 minutes or so of that junk just to see that part.

Yeah, it reminds me more of Seize the Day than November Rain

i agree, it feels like they're poking fun at A7X's guitarist playing a solo on the coffin...

So even the part where he sits up in the coffin (just like Axl sits up in the Don't Cry video) isn't a reference?  It made sense to me (and everyone else around me that watched it) that given all 3 elements, it was clearly a reference to GNR.

EDIT:  I haven't seen the Seize the Day video, so I' don't know what scene you're talking about, but I will find it and see if then maybe that changes my mind.   : ok:

EDIT 2:  I forgot to mention that the person who showed this to me is a Fall Out Boy fan, and the entire video is full of obscure references.

EDIT 3:  Shit, I just watched Sieze the Day, and the scenes are almost identical.  The only thing that still has me unsure is the part where he sits up, like Axl.  Oh well, it's not something worth getting into a huge debate about.  I just thought it was cool.  :)

Well this isn't about the band, it's about the references.  Or lack of, as some would say.   ;D

Well, I think you are seeing way too much into it.

The song sounds like a Britney Spears song.  :-\

haha ok so it does...but that is still a video mocking Avenged Sevenfold, I already read an article somewhere how their fans are pissed about it or something...it has nothing to do with GNR

I read an article like 6-8 months back about Fall Out Boy where they were saying how cool GNR were and how they were an influence (I think it was in Now magazine (Toronto)).  The bassist was talking about Axl's attitude on stage, but it seemed to me like he didn't know much about the band, and more like he'd seen a music video or something and thought they were cool.  I think he mentioned GNR to come off less emo then they are (emo isn't something bands aspire to be).

Has anyone ever seen a live Fall Out Boy show?  The music might suck, but I have to admit they have the energy of Axl.  They jump from so high up it's unreal, and the one I saw had the bassist throwing his bass at the drummer and knocking all the drums over.  It was pretty wild.

why has this thread not been deleted or locked? THis is competely useless..it has nothing to do with GNR...the video was mocking Avenged Sevenfold...I have started and been a part of topics that are 10 times more interesting and GNR related than this and they were deleted  or locked no questions asked.....why is this still on here?

I think it's not a "jump from so high" the quality that determines the "Axl style", I think it's something with the attitude, and of course, the songs, and with these songs (Fall Out Boy example_song_here) you just can't to pretend to be a *true* rockstar

I was only talking about the endless energy of Axl.

I hate Fall Out Boy and I tried to keep it on topic, if you want to go back and read my posts.  I said "Well, this isn't about the band, it's about the GNR reference" which everyone seems to have shot down, and even I admitted to it.   :)

Everyone else kept trying to talk about the talent of the band, and take it off topic, and I got suckered into making one comment about their onstage energy, and now people say "Shut up and leave, go to a Fall Out Boy website."   :'(

It's okay.  I still love all of you.   : ok:

basically, avenged sevenfold took their idea of playing guitar on a coffin from slash when he was playing on the piano in november rain......(which can just about be excepted) then fall out boy copyed a7x's idea ...(which is unexceptable cos its all ready been done)..but what more can you expect from a crappy little emo band like FOB ???
