Title: Help needed on a weird DVD problem on computer.
Post by: D on December 24, 2006, 03:49:18 AM
This is weird.

Sound works on everything, cds, Youtube, every sound works.

However,

When I put a DVD in my CDRom drive. The video plays but there is no sound................ I've tried everything. anyone have any recommendations?

In windows Media Player, Cds work, downloaded songs work just not DVD's.

No other media player works either.

Have you tried VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) yet? If VLC doesn?t give you sound it?s very likely either a problem with the DVD or your sound card.

You might need to buy a new dvd-rom drive. They're dirt cheap now. Type in dxdiag in the run bar and do a sound test on your sound card. Your drivers might be goofed.

On which program do you play your dvds?

It's most likely a speaker config problem with the program you're playing your dvds with.

But in theory it could be just about anything.

did this ever work before?

it could be that the audio cable that connects the DVD drive to the sound card is either loose or not connected so you should check that.

thats the weird thing, they DVDs worked perfectly up till about a week ago, now all of a sudden the picture plays but the sound doesnt. It is this way on any media device I try to use.

The audio works perfect on CD's, You Tube or Downloaded songs. Just not on Dvds

Ill try running that test.

Like the first reply said... Try using VLC.  If it doesn't work off the bat, just switch the sound to "Mono" and it should be fine.

God no, everyone should stay away from windvd, it's a piece of shit. VLC ftw.

you prolly just put the dvd upside down. And lie us about that you see video.

Are you using laptop or desktop?
