This movie is going to blow, hard.  they don't look like transformers that we know and love and the script is just god awful, cringe worthy to more exact.  will be a gigantic disappointment.

Fans are giving Michael Bay a hard time over this film because he hasnt paid any attention to the look, style, feel, backstory etc of the original series

But as a big fan of the classic show i think Mr Bay is doing everything right - especially the look, after all box shaped things in weird colours were hardly menacing or 'alien'

Mr Bay does brain dead action films like no other - and lets face it, we want loads of robots beating seven bells of of each other - but chiefly wiping out as much American military hardware as is reasonable to expect a dozen 30 foot machines to do in 2hrs...

Face it, a stunning story full of commentary on war and the rise of technology, with oscar winning performances from all involved would be savaged by fans as taking up valuable transforming time. No one will be going to see this for the human characters....

Did we ever sit through Megatron's antics in the original series and go - 'wait a second, this script really isnt up to much...'

Its a film designed to sell toys, the normal filmaking rules dont apply - this isnt even a film, its the biggest, longest advert ever made, transformers is the ultimate expression of?style over substance? - not even plot holes (giant robot into gun that human can hold) matter here!

dude, they TOTALLY changed the story and the origin of the tformers...why mess with something when its not broken?  All of these re launches of awesome franchises get shat all over.   There is a reason why the Marvel movies are better and sell more then the DC movies...they stick to the original stories and don't insult the REAL fans.  Superman Returns was one of the biggest piles of shit ever put on film, whereas all the spidey and xmen movies are amazing.

It might not be broken but it not what it once was - Takara/Hasbro want to relaunch the series, and that means things need to change. The '86 TF film made just 8 mill at the box office....

Megatron isnt in the trailer (or is he - the thing that attacks the coach?).....how can we really judge when we can barely tell if he's even there. More to the point he has two different modes in this film (an alien jet and a apparently a new US plane called a Riazor, which does exist but hasnt been unvieled yet - Bay's the first dorector to get a good look at it thanks to full co-operation with the military he will depict getting its ass handed to it :hihi:)



A film about robots that change form for no clearly defined reason - sounds like transformers to me!

The new machines look deadly, and like real alien robots should look - when one of them turns up your gonna think 'aw crap we're in for it now' - the G1 machines were hardly threatening. Can you imagine what they'll be up to - and what they'd be capable of, hurling abrams tanks about is just the start of things!

The '86 transformers film is genius, everything any TF fan could ever aks for, but consider you'd read the scipt in '85 - ud think it was going to be the worst film ever

-cast killed off in first third of film
-Prime killed
-Megatron 'reformatted'
-legion of new characters
-female transformer
-transformers dancing

they proved everyone wrong there.

Have a bit of faith, Michael Bay will give us two hours of explosions, now if he was making a 19th period drama that might spell doom, but this is transformers - and that kind of (thinking?) just might be the trick

Interesting that you like the cartoon movie so much, i found it disappointing once prime dies.? its still a good movie, but it would have been a million times better had the original characters gotten all the screen time.? that was a clear marketing/toy ploy to make money off new characters.

so long as they have the theme song and the transformer noise when they transform it'll be somewhat good ;)  i have also heard they got the original voice for prime (now lets just hope he has good lines).

Ah, the cartoon movie.  Orson Welles in his last role as Omicron.  Hot Rod becoming Rodimus Prime (awful name, but my ten year old self loved it!).  Here's hoping the new movie can measure up...

Rodimus prime was soooooo lame.  all the new characters were except for the green helicopter dude, he was cool.   infact he was so lame they brought optimus back to life.

That movie had an awesome 80s rock soundtrack though.  Instruments of Destruction, awewomse song.  and of course, the dirk diggler epic, "the touch" hahah.

This is some dudes response from seeing the trailer from another message board, it sums up how I feel to a "T"

I came to this trailer with an open mind. The project needs to be judged on it's merits. You can see big explosions anywhere. And you can get special effects on any street corner. I'm not here because I wanted a big explosion, special effects movie. I'm here because I had expected to see something that would make me feel "at home" with this version of TF. I viewed the trailer hoping that I would see something that resembled TF in some way. Alas, I saw Armageddon mixed with War of the Worlds. Not that this was any big surprise, but still, I had hoped....


----For the record, I liked War of the worlds, but Armmageddon is one of the worst movies ever.  but that dude is right, you mention the TFs looking "alien".  they're not supposed to be super duper strange looking, I always thought of them as giant human like robots, not aliens like the ones in ALIENS or independence day.

Loved the '86 movie.  Still watch it..still love it.

I own it on DVD (and have for a few years...I think it might be Canadian, though..not sure).  I've looked at the "Special Edition" and I, too, wonder what's so special about it.  Doesn't appear much different than the version I have, other than the packaging.

Doesnt it just amaze u that when Prime dies u actually feel something - a cartoon character's death can actually affect u, powerful stuff indeed!

I just loved the way the film was the anti-matter of cartoons. The 80's was full of guys blazing away at each other and no one ever dying, no one even being injured

..and then transformers the movie comes along - its damn near genocide, the lasers they fire actually hit - there are consequences, finally some realism, some tension - you've been so used to everyone surving for next week, if only all cartoons were the same!


Superman's weakness is kyrptonite - a transformers film's only weakness is attempts at comedy, Bay has never given us comic relief in his films - so my number 1 fear is layed to rest!

Providing he doesnt have a hippy daisy on the cab, does it matter? C'mon he's a massive truck with Peter Cullen doing the voice, the flames might actually look cool on screen too

Yep that is confirmed: Peter Cullen is the voice of Prime and possibly Ironhide too (he did both in the show), and Frank Welker (megatron's original voice) is supposed to be involved

Nope, Transformers transcended popular entertainment - everyone is a fan, its just some people dont know it yet ;)


Uwe Boll gets handed all kinds of films that deserve better - if he was involved - or (god forbid!) - Paul Anderson (AVP) or hell even worse - Bryan Singer or Bret Ratner, then u really could kiss this film goodbye!

Ye gods - imagine if Spielberg was directing - there would be more kids in it than the Simpsons!

Imagine the pretentious bore this film would be with Ridley Scott at the helm!

Michael Bay is reliable - he just does action - no pretentious shite, no 'atmospheric' snooze fest and no ''clever'' political slants.

Transformers is about war, directed by a man who is obsessed with US military hardware - this is a guy who spends all his interviews raving about A-10 Warthogs,

Starscream is an F-22 - we'll be lucky if Bay can take the camera off him, it will be endless lingering shots of the latest hardware - and people are worried abou the human characters having all the screen time! :hihi:

yeah, when prime died i was pretty shocked and upset.  i still can't get the image of wheel jack lying on the floor with a gaping hole in his chest.  or ironside getting blown away on the shuttle to earth.   or how about the cop car autobot getting killed and then his eyes burst open into smokign flames...fucking surreal.  the shame is they killed off all the cool characters!! haha.  even starscream got smoked (but came back as a ghost heheh).  I like galvatron though, good bad guy.

i remember the GI Joe movie following the same formula (get rid of all the old characters and introduce new ones) but that was just god awful.  and nobody died.  how do you have a Joe movie without snake eyes....sigh, sometimes i wonder how these corp. execs are still allowed to keep their jobs.

a live action Joe special forces movie could be bad ass if done right.

Don't forget the one scene about 65% through the film where two characters will express their concern and/or love for one another through a horribly contrived scene stuffed with God-awful dialogue just so people will remember that their watching a movie rather than a fireworks display...

Don't get me wrong, though.  If only because of my total devotion to the '86 version, I'm seeing this movie.    :beer:
