I still haven't decided... I've spent a lot of money seeing and bringing people to see GNR this year already! :) No regrets.
If I can get a ticket easily enough and if parking seems... reasonable... I may try to go.

Despite people saying that failing to release the album will hurt ticket sales, it actually makes me MORE inclined to see them live.

 I give out concert ticket for Christmas and Birthdays so I sympathize with the expense. The Guns and Roses show I saw was not played to a packed house. It was really nice, We arrived right as the band went on and most of the obnoxious people had been pitched out.   No chance it will be like that once the record drops. It was actually very memorable in an odd kind of way. I don?t think I have ever been to a show that I had no one in front of me and no one in back of me for rows in a coliseum  (moved around several times for different views of the band thought it was like being at  a really awesome sound check). It was melancholy and sweet, old and new all at the same time. Surreal. I was thrilled that despite the low numbers of tickets sold the entire band gave 100% it renewed my faith in the band that they brought no resentment to the situation just lots of energy. It was a great show.

Are there any updates coming from this show tonight?

The openers should be on by now by Pacific Time.

Curious to see if Axl makes mention of the open letter from the stage...

Axl released a statement over last night on his website stating March 6th as the release date. However most of the shows in the new year will be canceled in order to properly get the album out there. Apparently Universal thinks this is a true Guns N Roses album.

I personally wouldn't count on any new songs being unveiled tonight...He'd be wise to hold them until the record is out.

Keep in mind, 90% of the audience has never heard the songs we've been listening to constantly all year...I think he's probably more likely to dust off some oldies-but-goodies...or maybe TWAT.

I've thought about this a bit just cause I'm going to night 3 of LA and I was wondering what kind of special stuff we'd get since they haven't done 3 in a row in any city yet. Saw Aerosmith a couple nights ago ...throughout his show he kept talking to sound guys regarding the monitors in his ears as well(reminded me of Axl).....this is probably a common issue. So many sound variences from song to song.

Show was great.  The band sounded fantastic.  Very cohesive.  Axl sounded better than he did in San Francisco.  "Better" was a true gem tonight.  Unfortunately, the crowd was extremely lame in terms of energy and enthusiasm tonight.  Very disappointed in that regard.  But, still had a great time.  Lars on drums was a huge surprise, but trust me, it happened.  A great show.  The band just gels more and more everytime I see them.  I thought it was interesting that Axl made no rants whatsoever tonight.  He seemed to be in a very good mood.

More later as I remember.

I doubt that he would say anything because it might affect the release of the album or cause a lawsuit.

how many of the ppl in the audience would know about that letter? i would have expected that he would have mentioned something to the 98% of fans out there who didn't know about the letter.

Maybe he could have said "there is a letter for you guys on the homepage" but I guess if you dont go to the homepage they dont really are one of us who is looking for news everyday so I guess that if people wants some info they will find it themselves since there is info about the letter on the first page of their homepage. Otherwise they will be notified when the promotion starts.

I dont think he should tell the audience something about the album because its a complex situation, he can?t say "Well, We have a release date" because then he must explaine all the circumstances wht thats not a promise and so on. People have to read the letter to understand the situation.



And BTW, very cool that Lars joined the show.

Just Got Back... FUCK! WHAT A NIGHT! I got some things to talk about for tommorrow. Met Band Members AGAIN! with photos yes, uh Lars Urlich, and uh AXL slips and I talked to bumblefoot, I asked him if he heard the album and if there are songs on there better then the song "Better" and he even brought up the Axl and Merck Statements. I'll get to all that tomorrow but i gotta sleep and get some rest cause I gotta study for Finals, Damn!

Just got back from the show.  It was great to see them again.  They sounded much tighter as a band than when I saw them in  September.

Sounds like an amazing show again! I guess this is just waht they needed after the events of the last 24 hours, to get out there and blow off a little steam! Lars Ulrich eh! I am no Metallica fan but he is a great drummer, and nice to see that friendship is still there!! Mike

im not a fan of lars as an individual, but he's still a great drummer and to hear him play with gnr must have been something else. :o

man what a great show. they let us in at 7 and waited till 8 when the girls opened and did their thing. People were still coming in while they did their show and ended about 8:40 or something like that. Then another 20 minutes or so helmet opened. they were very weak in my opinion. After that another 25 minutes or so Bach opened and got people pumped up. I was standing on the floor and people were pushing and shit, it was fucking annoying but the thing that sucked was that i took my dad and I could tell he was getting really tired. Bach ended around 11:50 i think then the lights came on and security said it was gonna take about an hour till gnr starts but i still stayed at the same spot until gnr started around 12:30. While waiting for gnr fights were starting to happen in diffrent spots of the crowd which made me think a riot was gonna start ,then the show started .The show was great , ppl went nuts when lars showed up for out ta get me. all members were great, it was a cool show, nothing new but the songs were played very well and it looked like axl had fun. bach mentioned the return of GAK and i thought they were gonna play hair of the dog ,:( the only thing that really sucked was that the show ended up really late, around 2:40 . everybody on the floor had been standing up for about 6 and half hours and when everybody walked out we were walking like zombies because the back of our knees were numb.

A couple of things I remember:

-When I said Axl had monitor problems, I meant his in ear monitor.  He ripped it out early in "Welcome to the Jungle".

-I would say the arena was about 2/3rds full, although it's hard to say exactly because a lot of people came late and a lot left during GN'R's set.

-I thought "Better" sounded great last night/this morning.  A true classic in the making.

-While I like Frank's energy and enthusiasm, I prefer Brain on drums, without being able to put my finger on exactly why right now.

-Axl said very, very little to the crowd.  He made a comment about being in the heart, or middle, of his Raider Nation, then he looked up at Dizzy and said "how do you like that?", knowing that Dizzy is a Broncos fan.  Axl also wished everyone a good night and a safe trip home after the final bow, which Lars was a part of.

Any pics / you tubes of Axl / Lars?

Okay, so I am not gonna go step by step through it, I wil just say a few things.

-Bumblefoot has officially arrived. When I saw them in SF he was virtually non existant. He did the first solo, WTTJ, and was by far the most prolific guatarist of the night. Finck had his moments, and Fortus was his energetic self, but Axl has officially incorporated shredding into the set, and bumblefoot was on fire.

-Back to the show, Axl did not arrive until 12:04 am. By then there were three fights in the previous 15 minutes, and people were resltless, but by the time the lights went out, all was forgiven. Axl was in great form, the band was energetic, and he just did not lose it the whole show.

-Obviously they fired the sound guy or he is sober now, because there were NO sound problems, every song was clear and Axl could be heard in every song. In SF on 9/20 it was off and on. Big improvement.

-Axl seems to be having more fun singing the new songs than the old standards. His voice was epic, and he did not go "helium" once that can recall, he just dropped the high notes a few octaves and shorterned the noted and just executed them perfectly.
He seems to have elarned his limits.

-Best songs, Better, the Blues, WTTJ (due to Bumbles Solo), Nighttrain (energy), and Live and let Die.

-It was cool to see Lars play Out to Get Me. This really did show how much better the band can and will be when Brain comes back. Frank is okay, but is just not there im my opinion.

-The Solos were great, but if you are gonna start at midnight, you gotta cut em short, he ran over 2/1/2 hours and that is late due to the energy.

-Axl had definitly changed his attitude. During the set up, the roadies must have retaped the front corners of the stage two-three times, and sure enough, in the middle of Its So Easy, Axl went down ass over tea kettle flat on his back. Instead of getting up, cussing out the roadies or getting pissed, he cracked a smile, kept on singing and moved on. I was scared for like 10 seconds, but all was okay, thank god. It pumped up the crowd, we knew we were in for a helluva night.

-Pyro was great, and not overdone.

-I was a but dissapointed duing intros that pitman got no love *crickets chirping* but I like his flexible keyboard stand, wierd but cool.

-I am sure I am missing something, but I dont want to go on forever. I am tired. I now can kind of sympathize with some of the frustrated fans without the album because after seeing such a tremendous show, it does seem like this could have been something huge, and it is frustrating to see Axl play in front of 10-12k instead of a packed house. And the way the show was, he could have been HUGE with proper promotion and an album. So I get that.

-I apologize to all helmet fans for previous negative comments, they were really tight, and much better live. I rally enjoyed them.

-SG are okay, but I would rather have Axl out 45 min earlier.


Negatives

-Baz sucks, that is all there is to it, he just screams and if I just dont want to see Ron Jeremy playing lead guitar, and Frodo on bass.

-KoHD is a bit lame.  I have to be honest, that song with that little bit of a reggae touch is just wrong somehow.

-Finck solo a but messy, and superfluous.


Overall this show was better than SF, and I can see in just a few shows since SF that Axl is spreading the wealth, all three guitar players had a solos in November Rain, Again Bumble was the best. This is really a complete band now, and not once did I wonder where the other guys were. It is just another kind of band. The identity is there. They are no longer a cover band like in 2002. They are serious, and I am so glad bucket is gone.

The best way I can describe it is a rock n roll orchestra doing a rock opera, and they have arrived. I never held out much hope for them to be much more popular than they are now , but with the right promotion, this could be fucking huge, I sincerely believe that. though I dont know if they will ever do it right?

For the record, the new songs were my favorite part, because the band seemed to embrace them more.

That was a killer review with a nice San Francisco touch...fuck I miss that city and seein' GNR there....I saw the SF show on the 21st and to see "GUNS N' ROSES' on the marquee at the Warfield was so special....this band kicks fuckin' ass and I cannot wait until March for it to start again....ROUND 3!

Well before the show, I got to meet and greet most of the band members. Met Ron again, and this time Richard with pics. Had a little conversation with Ron Bumblefoot about some things. I asked him about the album, and if he heard it and he said he's heard the whole thing. I asked if there were songs that were better than the song "Better", and he said "Oh yea, there are songs that will blow your mind" or something along those lines, I Can't Fuckin Wait! I wanna hear that shit now! We also talked about the leaks, he mention how most of the songs go way back 6 and even 8 years and that they kept adding new things as years went on, something I think most of us new already. We we can expect some minor changes in those songs. I asked before the show if there playing anything new tonight he said it was pretty much just the same new songs. He also brought up Axl and Mercks statements saying that Axl is doing everything he could to get the album out by March.


As for the concert, you've probably already read from other reviews:
- Lars Ulrich (Took a picture but didn't come out) Fuck? :rant:
- started at 12:30
- Axl slips and falls (same here) damn cameras? :rant:
- Show seemed pretty rushed maybe cause of the late start, but was great overall.

I hope Ron's enthusiasm is authentic and that he's just not sayin in to give the record some positive reinforcement. I don't have insane expectations about the record and I'm still holding on to Better being the best song of the record but I definitely hope that that isnt the case and we definitely get something mindblowing.

Also anone else think maybe "management" has actually given Ron sort of the responsibility to mingle and interact with the fans seeing that he is a genuinely friendly and down to earth guy.

Just got back in town,

I went to the Vegas show in August and now this one in Oakland.

Something seemed to be amiss with the sound quality in Oakland.

Vegas was simply the best concert Ive ever seen in my life, and the crowd
had lots of energy, and was especially into IRS as far as the newer songs
were concerned.

My wife, who loves Better, could hardly even make out parts of the song in Oakland.
I didnt think it sounded good either...And IRS had this groovy cool ass beat
that just rocked at The Joint and the crowd was so into it it was incredible
considering most were hearing it for the 1st time, yet it was totally flat in Oak.

The crowd, who was visibly tired in Oak and just wasnt into the new rockers
and I blame them 0%.

They did however seem to dig when Axl showed off his vocals on The Blues and Madagascar.

You guys probably dont want to hear a comparison, but thats just
my honest perspective from a guy that thought the differences were huge.

I really hope Axl can afford a new sound guy after this tour, and perhaps
some new equipments as well....Cant blame it on the arena because
Helmet and Bach sounded like their mixes were spot on.

axl has new equiptment guys and digital sbd for the north american shows , I am sure you can find the thread if you utilize the search function ...also where were you standing for the oakland show ?

For the first 3/4 of guns show, I was standing 2nd and 3rd row GA almost dead center from front (about 10 feet to side).

At end of show I decided to see if sound was better in back, but not much luck....His voice often was drowned out, with
exception to when he really gave it 110%, and you could here some (im not sure if you call it feedback or echo effect or
distortion) with the guitars like it was too loud for the speakers to handle.

I was in section 114 row 3 seat 9-10-11-8 , i forgot wich one to be exact.I thought the only drowned out was the drums , but I am a diehard tallica fan , so you can always hear lars drumming

I thought it sounded great, I was up front against the railing, stage left, and could make out everything.

I was in section 116 and I thought the sound was perfect, much better than the Warfield and better than other bands I've seen at the same arena.
