Here Today... Gone To Hell!

AFD's 20th Anniversary is next year, and I think there's a good chance we'll see a remaster/re-release of it. So, for the sake of discussion and to get our minds off of CD for a while - what would you like to see on it?

- Complete album remastered
- Bonus Tracks: Shadow Of Your Love, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Heartbreak Hotel, Ain't Goin' Down, and any other unreleased/demo tracks that they feel like putting on there.
- Bonus DVD  of the '88 Ritz show.

Anything else?

It would be cool for a box-set or something like that. Comes with remastered AFD, DVD of their first show ever together, and DVD of the bands "best" show according to them. One that the old band can all agree on (if possible!) that was their best show to them.

All the AFD filmclips that were released would be a nice addition too, including the rare It's So Easy promo.

Good idea. Also, even if they didn't want to do that since Welcome To The Videos is still in print, just the "It's So Easy" video by itself would be a very cool addition as well.

That's the one. Doesn't need to be remastered. Doesn't need bonus tracks. They can put a sticker on the outside that says "20th Anniversary," but AFD is a perfect album, period. It doesn't need bells n' whistles.

I don't think they should mess with the album.  If they were to include a second disc of bonus material, demos, outtakes, etc., that would be ok...but don't fuck with the greatest hard rock album of all time.

I think AFD is damn near perfect. If there is a 20th anniversary edition just throw on some bonus tracks. Crash Diet, Maybe the original You could be mine that was recorded at that time.

Hopefully someone can back me up on this...I recall reading when Axl first got the reloaded GNR band going way back when. He had this line up rerecord all of AFD minus "I think about you" and replaced it with "You could be mine" and "Don't Cry". I remember reading this before 2002 because there were articles very specific to why he would do this. It was compared to Ozzy replacing certain musicians work on his old albums to cut them out of royalties. 
Let me walk a thin line here!!! I don't want to ever see the original AFD album out of print but, I would like to hear this REDUX version just to see if Axl "tweaked" anything and how it sounds different.

It was "You Could Be Mine" and "Patience" if I remember correctly.

But I would like to hear the re-recorded AFD (even though I heard it live in concert, heh)? maybe release it on their website for downloading.? No profit being made off of it just for pure entertainment.

I would like to hear the re-recorded versions from the late 90's...i really dug the end of Sweet Child from the credits at the end of Big Daddy....As far as old school songs, Shadow Of YOur love and Crash Diet would be cool

Me too. I like the old Appetite as it is, no reason to make a re-release. But it would be interesting to hear the new band playing it :yes:

Me too, I just don't want them to actually release it. It'd be one of the stupidest things Axl can do, but rest assured- I know he won't do that. I hope we get to hear them one day though, one way or the other.

Its UYI that needs to be remixed/remastered, much like Metallica's And Justice for all... does.

It would be cool of them to stream re-rerecorded AFD on gnr.com.

 I refuse to buy anything else GnR puts out till CD comes out so could care less what they put in it unless CD is in it :=P

That's actually a good idea.. instead of releasing a real album they could just make a stream of the songs. Then we wouldn't have to make a fight about which is better, new or old album :hihi:

in my opinion they should leave it as it is as it is obviously how it was meant to be heard.  no need to mess with a masterpiece.

for me personnaly i never listen to it on cd.  i much prefer listening to that particular album on vinyl.

They should only remaster it, there's no need to fix perfect things :peace: Although a bonus cd consisting some unreleased tracks and may be videos would be ace  :beer:

Live at Ritz should be released on a proper dvd with 5.1 audio.

Remastered 24K with the original Rape Cover restored. No re-recordings or remixes.

Musically, AFD is a masterpiece, but mix/mastering wise it's not so great: the guitars need to sound fuller and the bass somewhat "rounder". The hi-hat and overheads are to loud. If they fix that, I would be happy.

Doing anything to rerelease this album would make Axl a sellout and I really hope he never ever comes to that.

well i would buy it, but i am not buying any gnr material until cd is out.

I wonder what's this attitude about.. and it's so common. But if they would release (for example) a live dvd from the '06 European tour before CD, I would buy it. Maybe I'd be the only one ::)

And Justice for all is one of my favorite Metallica albums. Remixing it would make it better BUT the real problem is the bass. They should have let Jason play the way he wanted and not follow the guitars. IF (a big if...) it was possible I'd like Jason to go back in the studio and rerecord his bass lines for the album then remix the whole thing. THAT WOULD kick ass!!!

back to AFD...How about a DVD audio version of AFD remastered for 5.1 or 7.1 sound



after writing my Metallica comments I recalled how much better Megadeths KIMB album sounded after the remastering.....that was a great remix except for the censoring on THese boots. Nice goine Mustaine!

I want Axl's new appetite... Axl's voice on the Live Era re-recorded tracks (Nightrain, My Michelle, Rocket Queen) sounds soooo good, no offense, but better than he does on Appetite, so, his new Appetite should sound like that... And if he actually releases it, I'd probably explode in my pants  ;D

Surely we would all rather want CD first rather than a remaster of an already classic album?

I think it was mixed great to begin with, but it IS a good idea to re-release and add some bonus material.

if AFD is rereleased in 2007 i'd want it to have 13 new tracks on it and they could call it Chinese Democracy

We want CD not a remake of the best album ever, maybe some day it would fun to hear it, but I would think this would be a  bad move until something original comes out.

I'd like to hear that re-recorded AFD Axl spoke of from the late 90's/early 2000's. Where re-recorded versions of KOHD & Patience replaced You're Crazy & Anything Goes on the album.

Other than that, give it to me straight like that, with a revised tracklist, reflecting a set closer to the shows. No bonus tracks

It needs to be remastered because it sounds awful on CD, really thin compared to modern music. It needs to be brought upto to todays standards.

But, it only needs remastering. Nothing added or taken away please.

I would like the the all AFD album, but the one recorded by Tommy, Robin & Co.

Universal Records has been doing these "Deluxe Editions" of classic cds on their annaverseries... they've done NIN: The Downward Spiral on it's 10th anny, Rob Zombie Hellbilly Deluxe on it's 10th anny, and The Who: My Generation as well. ?(They've done a lot more, but these are the ones I have..).

Anywho they're great.. they all include deluxe packaging, and a bonus disc. ?The bonus disc is usually demo's and excluded tracks / b-sides. ?And everything is usually very nice.

I'd love to see them do a Deluxe Edition of Appetitie for the 20th edition. ?Put the rape cover back on, remaster the album, and slap a bonus disc on with their rarities (Shadow of Your Love, Crash Diet, ect) ?and some Appetite demos that didn't make the album (Don't Cry, You Could Be Mine, November Rain, Back off Bitch, ect.)

Now, the Illusion stuff.....oh yea, lots of remixing there- reproduce those pups. Way to processed sounding making them feel more dated than AFD these days.

if they'd re-release appetite i'd like to see a dvd with an early show or songs from their old club days. but leave the cd as is, maybe add a few demos and unreleased tracks.
