Title: VELVET REVOLVER Drummer: New Album Will Be More 'Stripped Down'

Velvet Revolver Lock and Load on New Album

Velvet Revolver are getting ready to head into the studio to ramp up work on their second album, drummer Matt Sorum tells AOL Music. "Hopefully, we will have a lot of the tracks done before Christmas and then come back in January and finish up," he says.

The band members had been dabbling in a lot of different directions on the songwriting, but Sorum says that with the help of producer Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam), the record will have a more consistent sound. "We had a lot of songs that kind of went away, and now we've really homed in on, like, 20 great songs," he says. "Now it's more a cohesive rock 'n' roll album. It's probably going to be more stripped-down than the last album."

While Sorum says Velvet Revolver are still deciding which tunes to record, to be winnowed down to a final 12 for the album, there are a couple of songs he's already looking forward to working on. "We've got a song called 'Queen For A Day' that's awesome," he says. "We have a great ballad called 'The Last Fight,'" which he describes as having a "Beatlesque vibe."

damn, i was hoping for an album with 15-20 songs, if they have 20 great songs realese them all and let us make out our favourites like on UYI but releasing a double album instead of 2 you get what i mean.. but this will prolly be better then contraband anyway

I think they won't put out a song called 'The House is Alive' if it is not for a movie soundtrack.  :hihi:  BTW noone ever should release or wrote a song with that title. But it's old news from the 'uninspired' period, now things are gettin' better and better can't wait to hear the album! I'm more pumped for this than I was before CB came out!

I have to say I am disapointed by the "stripped down" statement. I was actually hoping for something a bit more epic on this next record

This can only be good news - im really excited! New slash solos!

this is the best news i've heard about the whole album...being stripped down.  Now Slash's solos can stand out more.

when I first got contraband, the first thing i noticed was the main player (slash) wasn't featured.  it would be like buying chidem and having 10/13 tracks be instrumentals without axl.

I don't know what album you bought, but on my version of Contraband I could hear Slash just fine.
Sure it was mixed differently to Slash's previous work, but I still had no trouble hearing him.

I hear you man.. Slash is all over Contraband. Every song might not have big solos , but every song doesn't need them.. Like the little solo in Ilegal I Song is awesome, nothing dramatic but it fits awesome.. Then there are still plenty of CLASSIC Slash solos on Suckertrain Blues, Dirty Little Thing, You Got No Right, Loving The Alien...........
