Title: Will GN'R pull a CYHSY?
Post by: Oh My Choking Soul on December 07, 2006, 10:35:22 AM
New York's Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have revealed the specifics behind their forthcoming album.

Some Loud Thunder will be released as a digital download on January 16th, with the CD to come lagging cumbersomely behind some two weeks later. If that wasn't insult enough to the ailing format, paying downloaders will get the CD for free. Zilch.

This is the approach I think GN'R should take.

Also, if you would like to hear something from this amazing band, here is a legal copy of a song from thier forthcoming album as hosted on thier website:

...on a seperate note, this highly antisipated album was announced just over a month before it's release. GN'R could pull off a sneak attack, if they actually wanted to.

Fans of CYHSY had no title, release date, leaks, track listing, nothin'.

This isn't much different than Axl and Co. giving us the leaks to wet our "Appetite". Excuse the pun.

i think that this is a very real option, also, this does not mean that the album needs to be released on a  fuckin tuesday ! They technically could leave it til dec 31st!!!! (which coincidently is also my birthday!)

all do respect but that band can't compare with gnr. gnr expect to sell millions of albums and for that they need promotion. lots of it.

I'm sure the band is great, but honestly, Universal is considering a 13-15 million dollar investment here

I agree, you are both right. I am just saying to all the nay-sayers that it isn't impossible.

What does it mean "paying downloaders will get the CD for free"?

Not everyone has the option of downloading music. I have a cheap computer, no CD burner, and no Ipod. Just put the fucking record in the store, for us old timers. ;)

What does it mean "paying downloaders will get the CD for free"?

What do you think it means? There's no hidden meaning there. It means what it says. They'll probably provide a coupon or something like that. iTunes is a ripoff when you think about it. You pay $9.99 for most albums on there, and in my state they even charge TAX on downloads. Most cd's cost the same price as what iTunes charges. The most fair way to do it is what this band is doing: give their fans both versions if they pay a ridiculous price for a digital download.

Wow... i'm slow, sorry. At first i couldn't understand how you could pay and get it for free.... i have to get CD and Album to not be interchangeable in my head anymore. But yeah, now i see, you pay for the download and you get the CD version as well.? That's a great way to do it.

Anyone who thinks this album is coming out this year is brain dead...

Maybe Axl meant Chinese New Year

on a side note, the CYHSY drummer doubles as the "axl" in a good GNR cover band...i believe its Mr Brownstone but im not positive.  How cool is that?

If they release the album encoded in Mp3 before they release a lossless version of it, they're stupid.  I don't care how you make money in the twentyfirst century music industry  - - you need to draw the line somewhere. It's just a matter of time until someone sues these companies for selling Mp3s, as they're compressed junk.  Not to drag an AFC discussion here, but while it could be approriate in some cases, GNR isn't one of them.

if the album is released in just mp3 at first - I wouldn't buy it!

I have no interest in paying for mp3s, and I don't want to sign up for itunes or any of that shit

I'd download it for free and them buy the physical version

I agree...I have no interest in owning MP3s of the tracks.  Though, if it gets the album out there sooner, I'm ok with it.
