I can do drunk karaoke better than Phil Anselmo. What's he doing on the list?

Its a real mix of great vocalists and great front men. The two are vastly different.

My Top Ten Vocalists... It's my opinion everyone is entitled to one, agree or disagree, no probs...

1) Axl Rose ** This would be laughed at elsewhere but the contrasting range of power, aggression and sweetness to his voice(s) makes him top of the tree for me
2) Steven Tyler
3) Bon Scott
4) Freddy Mercury
5) Alice Cooper
6) Rob Halford (Only Dog's can hear his highest pitch)
7) Roger Daltry
8) David Bowie (70's Era)
9) Robert Plant
10) Mike Patton

I think Axl would be higher on the list if a certain album was released....:P ?Axl is top 5 rock singers, top 10 at the least.

Of course Axl should be ranked higher, but rightly or wrongly, he will always be "penalized" in these polls for: (1) not dying in his prime; (2) being perceived as having been responsible for the break-up of the old band; and (3) not releasing an album of original material for 15+ years- which is particularly "damning" since he did not do (1).

I like Dio's voice (listened to it on the way to work today as a matter of fact) but not more than Axl's.

Yeah, I hate the use of "Heave Metal" in the title...just brings up the whole "where to draw the line" issue, and makes the name of the list more worthy of discussion than the actual content.  Were it TRULY metal only, most of those vocalists wouldn't be on there.

Agreed about this one. Chris Cornell certainly belongs on any list of most "underrated" or whatever... but in the Top 5 of All-Time?!?! That's mind-numbingly absurd. His band freaking opened for Guns N' Roses for christ's sakes.... and soon thereafter was eclipsed (in popularity) by Nirvana, PJ, STP, NIN, etc....

Yeah... I know Audioslave... but that's an "All-Star" band.... totally different...

Bottom feeder? The guy INVENTED heavy metal singing you dumbass. Most of the folks on your list would not have been "metal" singers if it weren't for Robert Plant. And he's a way better singer than Layne Staley or most of the other hacks on your list. The only one I'd agree with you on is Freddie Mercury. His voice goes way beyond "metal." He truly had an operatic voice and rock n' roll was just lucky he chose that genre to show off his massive talent.

Yea I usually think it's annoying when people use the term "Heavy Metal" to describe just Hard Rock but this list is ridiculous. It's obviously a list of Vocalist period. Personally think Jim Morrison should be on there somewhere.

Just one man's favourite singers, what a piece of shit disgrace to the wourld of 'journalism'.  Come to think of it, these lists always are.  Laziness.

What ought to be done is simply choose the top ten (for example) of several genres of metal, then you wouldn't get Rod Stewart  instead of guys like Johan Hegg, Joacim Cans, Abbath etc.

How Tony Kakko is absent from that list is totally beyond me.  I suppose he's not as Heavy Metal, more Power Metal, but Rod fecking Stewart

So, Click Mambo over in Madagascar crafted the worlds first guitar in 1705. He must be the best guitar player. Or Hendrix redid everything by adding distortion and effects and hes far from the best. Just cause you invent something doesnt mean you're the best at it.

Maybe cavemen should be number one for grunting loudly. Or Cookie Monster.

I'll just my rant from the other "big" GN'R board:

Dave Mustaine owns! He has one of the most unique voices I've ever heard. This is a metal list and Dave sure is METAL?

Yeah, I'm biased... who cares?? :peace:

A lot of stuff doesn't add up on that list though and compared to the singers on there, Ronnie Van Zant should be there, John Fogerty too. And how the hell is Shannon Hoon not on there, I'm not a Blind Melon fan but come on.

And what makes this list uselss? Axl should be number one? ;D, Kurt Cobain is above Sebastian Bach, Phil Anselmo and Layne Staley and ummm... Kurt Cobain, Fred Durst, Chester Bennington, Marilyn Manson, Scott Stapp, Amy Lee, Justin Hawkins and Aaron "Fucking" Lewis actually make the list (Lewis is the most annoying singer in history... yes, even more that Durst).

And finally: There is no Mike Patton... so the list is just stupid.
