GUNS N? ROSES
Concert at Bradley Center Cancelled

The Guns N' Roses concert scheduled for Milwaukee's Bradley Center on Wednesday, November 29th has been cancelled due to illness. Guns N' Roses front man Axl Rose is suffering from an ear infection and strep throat. Rose was first diagnosed with the ear infection on the 20th of November in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He was seen again by a doctor last night following the band's show in Chicago and ordered to rest for a few days. The tour will continue as scheduled Friday night in Ames, Iowa at Hilton Coliseum.

Axl Rose commented, "We had a great show in Chicago tonight and had hoped to do a surprise acoustic show afterwards. I have been fighting this off for a long time but the doctor told me tonight that the only way not to jeopardize the balance of the tour is immediate rest. We will now have 3 days off before continuing Friday. We are sorry to miss the fans in Milwaukee."

Ticket refunds are available at point-of-purchase locations.  Please visit www.gunsnroses.com for additional dates on the Guns N? Roses Chinese Democracy world tour.

Additional refunds information: Tickets.com will be refunding face value plus convenience fees, but not handling fees - just like Ticketmaster.

Maybe because of the time difference?

Sorry to all the Chicago fans, surely the band will come your away again, hang in there, show the band you guys are sad but tuff and that you understand how Axl must be feeling, show Axl "Sympathy" not the "Devil".

strep throat sucks.  and it can be dangerous if left untreated... it can mess up your heart valves!  i have had it many times, so Axl has my empathy.  get well soon, Axl!

did anyone notice the mention of the 'surprise acoustic set' that was planned in Chicago, that had to be cancelled?  wasn't there a rumor about that some time ago, and something about the album's release date was supposed to be mentioned then? (or was i dreaming that?... lol)  :peace:

Was it not the guys on Talking Metal who said about the supposed acoustic show on the 21st?

They then said it got cancelled, or prostponed, I can only remember little bits from it....

Sure, strep throat sucks, but ear infections are brutal. I just got over one, and depending on the amount of fluid in your ear, it can seriously fuck with your hearing. Makes it sound like you're underwater or in a tunnel. Ear infections in adults are fairly uncommon, so it must have been a serious bug that got Axl.

Too bad the surprise acoustic set got cancelled. That would have rocked. I wonder where they would have done it? The Metro?

We'll get a refund. ?Scary thing for me is I'll need to deal with the inept tickets.com again. ?

It's unlikely we'll get a new date. ?They are heading west after Ames IA and won't come back to Milwaukee for one show after being out on the west coast through the middle of January. ?Unfortunately, the best shot we have is Chicago IF and WHEN this fn album is released and they decide to do North America again.

What's exactly a strep? :(

Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of strep throat are red, sore throat with white or yellow patches on tonsils, swollen lymph nodes in the neck, fever over 101 Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius), headache, extreme shaking/shivering, and cold sweats. Many patients also have difficulty swallowing and talking. Nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain are more common in children. Cough is infrequent in older patients, but younger children may experience cold-like symptoms including stuffy noses and sneezing similar to many viral infections. The onset of a rash may be a sign of scarlet fever.

Transmission
The illness is caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pyogenes and is spread by direct, close contact with patients via respiratory droplets (cough or sneezing). Casual contact rarely results in transmission. Rarely, contaminated food, especially milk and milk products, can result in outbreaks. Untreated patients are most infectious for 2-3 weeks after onset of infection. The incubation period, the period after exposure and before symptoms show up, is difficult to establish as some people don't become symptomatic. However, it is thought to be about 1 week.

Diagnosis
The throat of the patient is swabbed for culture or for a rapid strep test (5 to 10 min) which can be done in the doctor's office. A rapid test tests for the presence of typical bacterial antigens in the swab, which are detected by specific antibodies provided in the kit. If the rapid test is negative (that is, normal) or inconclusive, a follow-up culture (which takes 24 to 48 hours) may be performed. A negative culture suggests a viral infection, in which case antibiotic treatment should be withheld or discontinued.

In the UK, rapid strep testing is not available to general practitioners and a clinical decision must be made whether to treat while waiting up to 7 days for a swab result to be reported, treat without confirmation from tests, or wait for confirmation. This is criticized for encouraging overuse of antibiotics (see antibiotic resistance).

Treatment
Antibiotic treatment will reduce symptoms slightly, minimize transmission, and reduce the likelihood of complications. Treatment consists of penicillin (orally for 10 days; or a single intramuscular injection of penicillin G). Erythromycin is recommended for penicillin-allergic patients. Second-line antibiotics include amoxicillin, clindamycin, and oral cephalosporins. Although symptoms subside within 4 days even without treatment, it is very important to start treatment within 10 days of onset of symptoms, and to complete the full course of antibiotics to prevent rheumatic fever, a rare but serious complication. Other complications that can occur include an ear infection, sinus infection, or an abscess on the tonsils (peritonsillar abscess).

Penicillins should be avoided for treatment of a sore throat if bacterial (swab) confirmation has not been obtained since it causes a distinctive rash if the true illness proves to be viral. This rash is harmless but alarming. The most common virus responsible for strep like symptoms is glandular fever, better known as mononucleosis. Typically, antibiotics such as clindamycin or clarithromycin will be prescribed if there is any doubt as to whether the infection is bacterial as it does not cause a rash in the presence of a virus.

In addition to taking antibiotics, other ways to relieve strep symptoms include drinking plenty of water, taking nonprescription medications (such as ibuprofen) for throat pain and fever reduction, and getting plenty of rest. Also, gargling with saltwater (1/4 teaspoon of table salt in 8 oz. warm water) can help relieve throat pain.

So says Wikipedia...

Aww, ear infections can be horrible and mess up your equilibrium.  I had one years ago and had to spend a few days in a dark room on some really nasty medication.  Between that and the strep I can't even imagine how he has been performing with that.

Sorry for all you guys that got your show cancelled though.

I had a really bad case of strep throat my sophomore year of high school. I think I was out for about two weeks straight - and that's WITH plenty of rest. I certainly wouldn't want to go through that again.

So that explains the bad reviews the last couple of shows received. It's impossible to give your best performance if you're sick.

Get well soon Axl!

This makes me very angry. From everything thats every happen in the past, this just sounds to unreal. We GNR fans (me not so much NE more) have been treated like crap are hole lives by this man. And now this. Think what the General public will have to say about this. It's cool to be a GNR fan, but when 90% of the Rock N Roll comunity thinks the band you like is a joke, is a little embarrassing. If he cancels any more shows I'm affrade he is doomed along with Chin Dem.

But NEway, Get well soon AXL

The Rolling Stones cancelled a few shows due to illness, does anyone think they are a joke because of this?

Strep is no joke.  Especially when you are a singer.  Granted they don't remove tonsils like they used to but getting that kind of infection is not fun and can be dangerous, not to mention painful.  The only thing that can be done is medication and rest, the illness has to run it's course.  If Axl doesn't stop and rest now it will only get worse and wind up with MORE cancellations in the future.

I feel sorry for the fans that were going to attend this show, the cancellation sucks. But if Axl hadn?t followed the doctor?s advice it could be worse. He better be healthy and give the best of him than being ill, make a mediocre show and put his health in danger.

I hope he recovers and that everything goes well

Strep is a legit reason to pull the plug on any concert and travel. The only criticism anyone could have is that perhaps Axl, at 44, should cutback on some of the late nights and wild partying... that shit will wear your defenses down eventually... I don't care who you are. The tight scheduling of many of the shows (in many cases a mere 24-48 hours) and the onset of winter in North America don't help things either...

Anyway, get some rest and feel better Axl. Hit up Milwaukee on the next tour. : ok:

Just called tickets.com at 800-352-0212 as directed from a generic e-mail response to a form I filled out on their website.? I spoke with a rep named Justin, and he had no indication that the show had been cancelled.? That didn't surprise me very much.?

What did surprise me is the fact after he realized that the show was truly cancelled, I was informed that tickets.com has "not yet been instructed by the scheduler (promoter?) of the performance about how to process refunds for the show."? Well, how about a credit back to the credit card that was used to purchase the tickets?? Makes sense to me.

I also realize now that I will have to eat roughly $100 in convenience charges & service fees (had 8 tickets) because tickets.com only refunds the FACE VALUE of the the tickets in the event of a cancellation.? I looked up ticketmaster's policy, and surprisingly enough, they refund EVERYTHING.?

Jarmo, perhaps this little tidbit of info can be passed along to GNR management in the event that they offer a "fan club" presale in the future.? When something like this cancellation happens, the fan club (and I use that term loosely) members lose a lot of money.

Look, I'm really upset about the cancellation, and I'm seriously not trying to be an asshole here, but I just foresee a big problem with getting a refund through tickets.com.

well it was just cancalled... tickets.com did sell tickets before GN'R and will sell tickets after this... so relax and give them time to sort it out. and I am pretty sure ticketmaster would "eat" some money too...

I also called tickets.com earlier today and the chick that answered first told me to call the Bradley Center but then recanted and gave me the same spiel about GNR Managment needs to direct tickets.com officially regarding refunds.   It's obviously scripted.  It would be nice to get the refunds back before I have to pay for bill for the Reno, NV tickets I just bought..

I'm sorry for all the fans who missed out. I hope you guys don't have too many problems with refunds.

I've just read one or two posts in this thread particular;
Now we understand frustration with unexplained cancellations in the past, the lack of album, late show times etc etc, fair enough, but I really really hope nobody has anybody sort of complaints or issues with Axl this one time; the man is fucking ill, he's sick, he's a human being. And lets leave it there yeah.

Actually Ticketmaster refunds all fees except what they charged to mail the tickets to you if you chose expedited service and the 1 or 2 dollar fee they get per order.  You do get most of the money back beyond the face value.

That really sucks about tickets.com though!

What the media is going to look at is the fact this is Guns N' Roses THIRD cancellation of a tour that currently has no album to support it. Nashville, Portland, now Milwaukee. What is the general public supposed to think when considering seeing the band play live?

While the Milwaukee cancellation appears to have a legitimate excuse, people are just going to say "Same old Axl", and not bother to buy tickets.

I read this on MyGNR regarding people getting refunds from tickets.com-
I thought I'd start a new thread to ensure everybody sees this.
Fans who bought GNR tickets through Tickets.com will be reimbursed the full face value plus convenience fees, but not handling fees, the way Ticketmaster is doing.

Earlier, there was a mixup at Tickets.com, where fans were incorrectly told they would not be reimbursed for convenience fees.  Merck looked into it, and has now confirmed that the Tickets.com is in the process of correcting the mixup.

Here's the response Merck received:

Dear Merck-

Thanks much for your email.  I?ve checked on this again ? the Customer Service
reps at tickets.com have all just been reminded again that for GNR, they should
be telling customers they will be refunding face value plus convenience fees,
but not handling fees - just like Ticketmaster.

Tickets.com normally does not refund the convenience fee when it refunds the
tickets it sells, and so apparently there may have been a Customer Service rep
there that gave out incorrect information to a GNR caller.  Please note however,
that GNR refunds are being processed tonight, and that the amounts refunded to
all credit cards will reflect face plus convenience charges.  Tickets.com
Customer Service reports less then 10 calls total for Guns N? Roses.

Apologies for the confusion.  It might be very helpful if Madison assured the
GNR Board that tickets.com is following the same refund policy as Ticketmaster.
I noticed that the person complaining on the messageboard said he WILL be
refunded only face value ? not that he WAS refunded only face value.  I have
been assured that the correct refund of face plus convenience fee is and has
been correct in the tickets.com system all day.

If you have any questions or would like additional information, please just let
me know.

 Thanks much,

 David

Wow first off, sorry to all the fans that didn't get to see GnR.
I actually have an anual batte with strep and it's nasty as hell to have.

The fact the man was performing at all in the early stages of it is incredible.

If it's progressed to the point where he's got the ear infection also, not to stir up shit, but I've got to imagine Fridya's show would be at risk also.
They've already stated they intend to be there, and it's true that once you start taking penicillin you start to feel better pretty quickly, there's no doubt that it would still be very difficult to sing, particularly the way Axl does, that soon after having strep.

Here's hoping he's up to doing Friday, but i wouldn't be surprised if he isn't. If he is, the man's a freaking warrior.

Hey - I don't know if this is a rumor or not but my hub works at the board and some cats there are pretty well connected. They said the bands are staying in Chi-town for the midwest run of the tour. I don't know what hotel but that's why Axl stated the surprise acoustic because he probably would have played Buddy Guy's or House of Blues or Metro if he was feeling good. Not that it still can't happen because I believe he is flying in and out of Chi-town for the other two shows too. So, maybe, just maybe we could still get something on like Thursday or Sunday night? Although I don't know how I would find out where they would be even if this did happen ???

Yeah, I thought about trying to find him too but the man is sick, people would think I'm a stalker, and Axl would hate me for life especially when he is sick. But, this dude told my hub that the guys love the midwest cause there are more metal fans than anywhere else - notice I am not saying they love the midwest the best - that I don't know - and that's why they are camped out for a couple of weeks in Chi-town. Whether any of this is true I don't know. I'm just passing along some smack since someone mentioned the hotel thing. No doubt he is still here.

If anyone hears any rumblings about another surprise acoustic, pass the info along. As long as he is in the area, I will move heaven and hell to see him again. And, that ain't easy!
