Title: Local Radio Stations...
Post by: damnthehaters on November 28, 2006, 01:06:34 AM
One of the local radio stations here where I'm at continuely blast, and make fun of GNR.  I officially got fed up with it tonight when my buddy mentioned how he heard the station again today saying shit.  Things that have been discussed in the past are low ticket sales, and the radio station telling people who call in that "we have GNR tickets for you, if you actually want them?".  Or, "Axl can't sing anymore", "the washed up Axl Rose", making fun of there canceled show in Portland, making fun of the long delayed album, or making fun of Axl kicking fans out..etc.  There is just nothing positive!

I feel like writing into them and sharing my thoughts.  I don't want to come across as too pissed off because they would continue to bash them.  I do however, want to make them aware of the fact that this is a good flippen band.  Now I know that GNR deserves some of the stuff being said (the album continuely being talked about and not coming out), but they also deserve a little more respect.  Do any of you guys have any input on this and something I could mix and match with my write up to send to them?  Or, should I just sit back and not give a rats ass?  I just think people who listen to the show are getting misled about a great band.

Dude, get a life and chill out.  None of those DJ's matter.  Don't fuel the fire.

Certain DJ's seem to just hang around Metal Sludge for their info. If they're full of shit, call them on it. I heard so much BS from places like Chart Attack here in Toronto - and then they had to eat their words and give the show a good review.

The guy has a point.

Fact of life - The band will be derided and made fun of until they produce something that makes the mainstream take notice.

'Til then, it's a lost cause - I've tried defending the band in certain situations, and most people already have their minds made up about Axl and GNR.

I work in radio.

I have friends that work in radio.

Complaining is useless.

Trust me.

I recently spoke with a DJ from WMMR in Philly,'cause he acts in a similiar way calling Axl "Botox Boy" and stupid shit like that. I turned it around on him and said that taking shots like that demeans the one saying it and hurts his credibility,as he lowers himself to acting in a juvenile way. I said,"if you don't like someone, why not just keep that to yourself?" He acknowledged that "true,I don't have to do that".

He doesn't like Axl on a personal level, but as a band he likes them a lot. We didn't get into whether he considered the new band legit,he was referring,I believe,to the old version. I encouraged him to check out the new songs that were leaked,as he said he hadn't heard anything new.

If you're that upset,I would write a letter to the program director stating your frustration and turn it around like I did. Make it seem like they're being unprofessional and how disatisfied you with the DJs. He might write ya back and agree or say "change the f'n station". It could go either way. Good luck buddy.

Personally,I gave up on local radio long ago,'cause it not only sucks with their dated playlist but, they also don't have much impact like they used to. Yeah, they'll play a single but, people have so many venues in which to hear new music once it's released. That's almost like relying on MTV to help with CD's promotion!? :hihi:
I talk with whole lotta people these days who say they don't listen to the radio at all. I don't have satelite radio yet,but I've heard some at a friend's house and others who have it say nothing but good things.

Do you know the story of how Ron got in Guns? It's loosely related. Long story short, posting the call letters (WXXX) of the radio station and some of us calling them to express our oppinion certainly can't hurt if we keep it clean and not mean. I don't know about you all, but I have free long distance.

Complaints have got some local DJs here canned in the past.

One or two complaints - nada. Get a bunch - if the station doesn't listen, people stop listening. Especially with Sat. FM slowly bringing back competition.

It's not that i'm pissed, it just bothers me to know that they are not supporting this band for when they come to town. ?I just think that by saying stupid shit and poking fun of GNR isn't really helping ticket sales, because for a lot of people, they don't know much about the new GNR. ?A lot of people might be like "awesome, GNR are coming to town" and then they hear crap on the radio about them. ?It may persuade people into not going, I don't know. ?I would just like to see this band in a good environment and the local DJ's are helping that. ?

Remember watching Howard Stern's Private Parts movie?

People who hated him tuned in longer than people who liked him.

they bash Axl so people like u will get pissed and listen longer thus getting them better ratings.

If you hate them so much, why do you listen?

Hit it right on the head.

I find that DJ's are usually pathetic human beings that probably couldn't make it in used car sales.

And yet we still have no threads devoted to the assholiness of used car sales people. Such a shame.

Speaking of local radio stations, mine has been playing Sweet Child O Mine EVERY Saturday for the past month. It's the highlight of my work day.
It's quite suprising really, as they only play the popular chart stuff usually. Or cheesey classics.

Hey man, the radio station has no obligation to promote Guns N' Roses.  They don't have to be working for them.  If the band can't be arsed doing any proper promotion themselves...

Fuck em '

Dickhead has probably not checked out any of the live gigs performed this year anyway

Saying he can't sing  anymore shows you he's clueless

The problem is he can reach of a lot of people - so that kinda sucks

Yeah, I believe this to.

And for those of you who told me not listen to the station anymore, I don't.  I haven't!  The only reason I sparked up this thread was because I was out with my buddy last night and he mentioned how he heard them talking shit again.

I guess we just have to wait for the damn album to come out sometime within the next God knows how many years.

I guess I'm lucky to have lived places that don't seem to bash the artists whose music they play.  In Indy, Q95 doesn't pull that shit...they support all classic rock artists (and borderline classic rock artists) very well.  In my current town, the DJs are kind of lame, but they know that shows coming to town and getting those free tix to give away and promote their stations is their bread n' butter.  God, how I wish it would stop being Journey that comes here...
