EAGLES OF DEATH METAL appear to have been removed from the GUNS N' ROSES tour after only one show due to an overwhelmingly poor reception the band got from the GN'R audience during EAGLES' tour opener. According to several fans who attended last night's (Nov. 24) GUNS N' ROSES concert at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio (also featuring SEBASTIAN BACH and SUICIDE GIRLS), people were booing throughout EAGLES' hour-long set, with some of the GN'R fans calling the group's performance "horrid at best" and describing the band's music as "pretty fucking lame," with a repertoire of songs that sound "almost the same." GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose apparently agreed with his fans, because a few songs into GNR's set he reportedly said something to the effect of, "So how'd you like THE PIGEONS OF SHIT METAL? Don't worry, that's the last show they're playing with us."

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL released its second album, "Death By Sexy", earlier this year. The CD features appearances by Mark Lanegan and QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE drummer Joey Castillo, while DISTILLERS frontwoman Brody Dalle (QOTSA frontman Josh Homme's girlfriend) and singer Wendy Ray added backing vocals on several tracks.

I wasn't at the show so naturally I should refrain from commenting on the pigeons of Shit metal band but I'm curious to know what they've done other than giving a shitty show, I wonder. Axl wasn't like that to the past booed opening acts was he?

They must have done something to piss him off.  Because from NIN to Mixmaster Mike, Axl has never cared whether the audience "got" the opening act or not.

sebastian bach is the only band that axl has hand picked to open for him..

wrong.  He had alot to do with getting the Metallica tour as well as most of the bands who opened for them in the past.

Eagles of Death Metal are a much better band than Bullet for my Valentine or Avenged Sevenfold.

Maybe Eagles of Death Metal did not kiss Axl's ass as he wished... Who knows ?

Axl should talk more about his new album instead of the opening act... :hihi:

I'm not familiar with their stuff, but the whole "pigeons of shit metal" thing is priceless.

I've witnessed the band live at a small club in Brooklyn two years ago (with Josh Homme on drums). They essentially are ironic, initially starting as an inside joke. That is not to say that their music doesn't have a groove (their first album is pretty good, garage tinged). I can understand how the joke may not go over well on more traditional Guns N' Roses fans. What a pity...Hey, Prince was booed off the stage opening for the Rolling Stones...

Very true.  In order for Axl to make such a statement, something went down behind the scenes.  As with most things GnR, we'll never know...

Well hopefully they have it figured out by next Saturday in Minneapolis so I know if I can sit in the bar a couple of hours longer. ? :beer: ?So far none of the opening acts would have got me in anytime before 10:00pm. ?I've seen Skid Row/Bach enough that i'm not going in early for just him. ?Papa Roach, ok, but not going to get me off the bar stool early. ?Eagles of Death Metal, maybe if they were playing in my garage I'd go check them out. ?Tommy Stinson should do a double set and open up with The Replacements. ?Axl and Paul Westerberg are equally as crazy at times. ? :-X

I was at the show last night.  Their first song was kind of catchy but the lead singer turned everybody off with his dancing and tight emo jeans and aviator sunglasses.  the rest of their songs sounded the same but between songs the singer would hear some boos and kind of smile then the crowd would boo some more cuz they thought he was egging them on which i don't believe he was

I was at the show last night, and the Pigeons of Shit Metal fucking blew. ?I love how many people are defending them, saying they're better than other openers when you weren't there last night. ?The audience was booing the entire set, I felt bad for the band. ?Not once did I hear people boo and shout at Papa or BFMV. ?The Eagles of Death Metal are a horrible band, with no diversity at all. My friends and I couldn't tell when one song ended and another began. ?I almost fell over when Axl called them the pigeons of shit metal, cause that's what they are.

Thats your opinion only. Alot of people here hate them, its called taste. You cant tell people their opinion is wrong just because you don't agree with it.

I'd bet good money that someone in the Eagle (pigeon :hihi: ) band said something bad about GNR fans to a GNR band member because of the booing.  The word got up to Axl and the rest is history. 

I know that other people have said something along the same lines.  Either that, or the GNR band members who were watching on the sidelines told Axl how horrible they were and how they were booed.

At least we won't be seeing them again!  :peace:

Here is the problem with the band, and I was at Cleveland last night, they were after BACH! If this band was the first opener, even before the Suicide Girls then they would probably still be on the bill. Suicide Girls everyone around me seemed to dig them, and Bach brought the place to the edge of their seats. Then come on Eagles and damn everything was taken down a notch. If they were first act, they would of not gotten the response they got.

If The Eagles of Death Metal are what Todays music scene is about THEN i am extremely glad Axl is out of touch with today's music scene.? that means we will have an orignal amazing sounding album. : ok:

Today Prince more than holds his own with The Rolling Stones, Pigeons of Shit Metal will never hold a candle to GNR

I saw The Smashing Pumpkins open fro GNR in 92 in Oklahoma City and they too got booed unmercifully as well. ?

I'd say in both cases it speaks more about a certain sect of the GNR fanbase
than it does the bands mentioned above.

I think its hard for any opening band cause FANS have this dillusion that the quicker the opening band finishes, the quicker the Main Band will play and that just isnt so.

The Bon Jovi Concert I went to, they had Less Than Jake opening.

Now if u have never heard Less Than Jake, u would know they have no business on a Bon Jovi tour, it is as different as u can get from Bon Jovi.

Id rather here music and bands playing than sit around for 2 hours with nothing.

i was there last night in the front row, and these guys sucked ass. although some of their riffs were ok, all in all their songs fucking blew. i pretty much slept through most of them. it was hilarious when he said pigeons of shit metal though ?:rofl: they put the suicide girls on again after them, my guess just to warm the crowd up again, eagles of death metal were a real fucking downer, they really killed the vibe

Papa Roach has always sucked and sucks more in recent times thanks to their identity challenged new image and sound. Fat Coby Dick should stick to rap metal. They were horrid live. When I heard they were opening for GN'R I laughed. Why any fan of GUNS N' FUCKIN' ROSES would even come close to supporting a band like that...is beyond me. Eagles of Death Metal aren't too great either, but are a big step up from the P. Roach. Mix Master Mike was at least entertaining. But I agree, bring Buckcherry on tour. Never would a tour make more sense right now than with those two sharing a bill.

Maybe this has already been brought up, but if they suck so bad that even Axl thought they sucked, then what were they doing there in the first place? ?Axl had to have heard them before putting them on the tour. ?Is there studio material ok, and they just suck live? ?I don't know anything about this band, but to me it seems very uncool that Axl would berate them on stage like that. ?If he didn't like them they wouldn't have been there. ?And Buckcherry opening for Guns would be pretty friggin' awesome.

Some girl introduced me to this shit band last year after I told her I liked GNR. She said this band was right down my alley. I listened to 4 songs..it was horrible. Most bands today just make the same song over and over.

I checked out this band before, bored me to death. Bring Buckcherry is what I've been saying all along.

I am pretty sure GNR had to take who was available for this tour being that it was announced pretty much at the last minute and most bands probably had previous commitments. ?

I have seen a few bands I didn't love open up for them this year: Phantom Planet and Hoobastank in Vegas (Hoobastank actually played a decent set and the singer was really glad to be there), and Papa Roach who actually got a decent reception at the shows I saw. ?I don't love them but I can also admit a lot of people at the shows did. ?

I read in someone's review that some of the GNR members were watching the EODM set from the side of the stage. ?Maybe one of them just reported to Axl about how the crowd reacted to them (being that everyone who was at the show and reviewed it here said they were booed consistently)? ?Why does everything have to be a war of words between the bands? ?:peace:

they were horrible, you weren't there to hear how crappy and stupid they sound. ?the singer acted (nothing against homos...but a gay yodel in most of your songs while singing about "cherry cola" should not be allowed on stage. ever) papa roach was 10x better opening act than the parakeets of poop metal.

I wasn't there to witness the band, but it does seem a bit premature to kick them off the tour after ONE show.  I thought Papa Roach was a fine opener but a lot of people on here hated them.  It's gonna be tough to find an opener that EVERYONE likes.  People wanna see GNR, that's the bottom line.  It's a pretty big deal for a band to open for Guns, and the Eagles of Death Metal were set to open for the rest of the dates.  Now they're done after one show.  Again, I wasn't there so I can't comment on how bad they were.  Or maybe they had a run-in with Guns or something.  It just seems a little harsh. 

I have to admit that I am not a huge fan of the Eagles of Death Metal... however... "Pigeons of Shit Metal" is one of the funniest things I have heard recently.... way to go Axl!

Sometimes people say to me 'don't you think axl is an arrogant asshole?' and it's like no, i wouldn't put it that way. i'd say he's 'very entertaining'.

very true, but don't try and satisfy us with a shit band.  Bruce springsteen has never had an opening band when i've seen him (5 times) and he's come out and killed each time, leaving the crowd thristing for way more.

it's alwasy better to have no opening band than a shitty one.  either  have a great, up and coming artist/performer, or nobody.
