whenever i go to the site its just a white screen then on the side it says news...mailing list..and mechandise and when i click on news it takes forever to get to the news page ..but when it comes up it just says error and crap like that.

when all those url's take us to the same site, that sounds like they're getting a hold of as many gn'r addresses so that therewill be fewer unofficial usl's with gnr in the adress title...

doies this sound stupid or does it make some sense ???

if you feel like it, go ahead, bash me, don't know ANYTHING about the internet, but this reminds me of when people took the domain of well known names and then sold it to companys who needed it...  8)

Yes, when there is a tour, they send an internet presale password through the mailing list.  I believe for my show I received that e-mail about 8 hours after the presale had started... luckily I had read the password on the board.  God Bless Gnronline.com  : ok:

man, dec. 20 is my Birthday, and I realized that since 12/20/00, every fucking single day ( I mean, EVERY FUCKING SINGLE DAY ) I go to www.gnronline.com hoping to find something new...
when they said that they were play in rock in rio 3, I remember saying this "yeah, now its the time", and since then, I always believe that something "new" will be in the site in the next days, weeks, months...

Why don't you check some other site for GN'R news? You have a better chance of finding GN'R news on MTV.com than Gnronline....

Ok, this is gonna be a bit complicated, so bear with me.  I'll try to lay it out as succintly as possible.

As we all know, gnronline.com is the Interscope owned site for 'official' GNR information.  Its last actual update was on June 25, although it references the 3/9/03 date.  

geffen.com currently has Greatest Hits listed on their upcoming release section.  Curiously, its the only album listed there that you can't click on.  I noticed that all the other album links go straight to the bands home pages.

gunsnroses.com is a site owned by Axl - In fact, a LONG time ago, there was content there - but it disappeared rather quickly.  Right now, its just a site waiting for an IP address.  Now here's where things get interresting.  gunsnroses.com's WHOIS info was last updated in Late November.  Apparently, it was just the standard 2 year renewal.  But there's a big difference between the record as it appeared before and how it appears now.

Now, gunsnroses.com lists, as its "technical contact" field, ArtistDirect.com http://artistdirect.com - Now, from what I see, artist direct is an extension of the UBL (ultimate band list) and has direct links to audio streams and profiles on TONS of different bands.

Now, here's the theory part:

if Rio is happening, we wonder why the heck there's no update on gnronline.com about it, right?  Let's assume, for the moment, that GNR & Geffen are at odds.  If that's the case, then Geffen / Interscope isn't going to allow information about Rio (a concert they have no financial interest in) to appear on gnronline.com.

Now, if this 'falling out' happened back when GH was first announced (November of last year, I believe) then it would explain GNR. Doug Goldstein, & Burt Deixler (one of Axl's numerous attorneys) changing the technical contact info for gunsnroses.com - in order to protect the domain name from any possible problems arising from Interscope / Geffen.

So, in theory, it is entirely possible that gunsnroses.com will be the new 'home page' of GNR - especially if there has been some sort of falling out.  Like I said, 2 months ago, artist direct sure as hell wasn't the technical contact for the site.

(Oh, btw, I checked other Geffen bands - Puddle of Mudd, for instance - and they do not use ArtistDirect as their technical contact)

It's been known for quite a while that Gnronline is the record company's site that was launched to promote Oh My God and Live Era.

I have not seen ArtistDirect listed there before, and the last time I checked would have been in September or October.  I am fully aware that gnronline is the record company's site, as stated up above.  Hell, you can still find live era content on the site due to sloppy management.

I've always thought gunsnroses.com would be the 'official' site - I just wonder if there's a reason that Geffen isn't linking to gnronline.com right now with the GH disc, among other things.

If you say you've seen AD listed there before, I believe you - but I'm serious, I haven't.

Artist's Direct, as often as I've checked the site, has never been listed.

I stand corrected as well, I found ArtistDirect references back to Mid-May of 2K3.  With that being said, I still find the lack of a link from GH on geffen.com to GNR's website to be an intriguing thing.

That html file has been there for a very very very long time.  It's further evidence that the site is not very well maintained.

Dizzy's site is down because, as lars put it on the message boards (which are still up), their host company tried to screw with them.  I don't know any more details, really, but I can assure you it has nothing to do with the gnronline "update".

I typed in GNR into yahoo and it appears that information regarding a November release from gnronline.com has been removed.  Can anyone shed some light on who's responsible for maintaining web info on specific sites?  I hope this doesnt mean that November is out of the question cause it comes from the official gnr site.

Alot of bands do that

1) Lots of interscope sites are slow at times
2) Tommy didn't say "there was a time" the guy at mygnr admitted he got that part wrong and that he was talking about the Perfect record.
3) There used to be a thread at the top of this forum that said something like "don't post about gnronline unless something actually happens".
4) It works fine for me.

Well, there is no need to close this thread! Coz there has actualy been a change the last 4 days! I think its about 4 days since i last visited gnronline and then you could see the world tour picture from 2002.. but its gone now! U could also read No News under the news section, but not now! They are prepering it! if u take a look at the source on the site, its different...
 Im not saying that this means things are happening today or tomorrow, but if they are going to release a single soon, im sure they will make a real website before that, and release the single on the website, and so on!..

You don't have to take this long to update a site. If any update is scheduled, they would remove the old stuff (just like they did now) and, soon after, they would put the new stuff. It's not like they have to remove that 2002 tour shit to update the news section in a week.  :hihi:

They have probably had the updated webpage ready for ages now and are just waiting for approval. So many release dates have come and gone. I guess this can be taken as a sign that the approval they need isnt far off. I thought they were going to do away with the Gnronline page and move the official site to a different address. I could be wrong though!

Ok, this is too much. It's not a sign... If you are old enough, you can remember the past updates. They didn't put the site down or throw out just part of the stuff just to put it again with some news. It's not that hard to put some text in that website...

I don't think anything will happen soon. I think they just took the tour logo off but that's it. If they are gonna put up a new site they will do it all at once.

The thing I think is going on right now is that they are designing the new site and somebody noticed that the old logo was still on there and suggested they should take it off. I guess that's about it but the new site will be online only a week prior to the new single.

I don't know for sure and ofcourse I hope I'm wrong.

Sure, Interscope/Geffen will receive a note that their ownership is about to expire and renewing it wouldn't be such a big deal... The question is, would they have any use for it if the Axl-owned gunsnroses.com would finally be opened and used to promote CD?

Until it gets updated they should just shut it down - waste of cyberspace and not much use to hardcore or casual fans!

For the little money it costs to host it (lets face it there's not much maintenance required), I think they'd be more likely to simply extend the domain license as to create speculation if it suddenly 'dissapears'

Using firefox it appears that the main page has an expiration date of 11th December. What does this mean?

Expiry date:
All web pages have to have an expiry date.  This is in order to ensure web content is kept accurate and fresh.  By default the date is set as one year from when the page was created

Action on expiry:
Web pages are set by default to ?notify only?, i.e. the page owner will be notified one year after the page has been created in order for them to review the page. Question is, when was this page created? Could it have been December 11th last year? I can' remember any specific updates around that time that could account for this.

Also, was this date always there for the last 6 months/year or has it been added recently to indicate that something will be changing on that date?

As most of you (but apparently not all) know, the Google info DOES NOT come from a record company or anybody official, for that matter!  Google's tag info comes from other sources that ANYONE can access and change.  It means nothing.

Just to update everyone commenting on the google date:

It comes from DMOZ.  DMOZ is a "user maintained" list of websites....what that means is, the source of the information is a person, not necessarily one who is any way connected to the band (and almost certainly NOT).  It's not coming from web site headers, it's not coming from Sanctuary......it's coming from "someone"....and that "someone" isn't necessarily a credible source.  So, before we get all excited when that date changes, everyone should know exactly where it's coming from.

This is due to GNR Online being completely removed from the DMOZ listings (http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/G/Guns_N%27_Roses/). For those of you who don't know, the listing is separate from the website itself, and by modifying it one can (and has) type in an "expected" date for CD.

Hopefully this is because the DMOZ personel have gotten some heat due to all those false alarms. Good riddance, I say.
