i'm not a whore, but i have gotten backstage at several rock shows. if you talk to PR people, or even roadies, a lot of times they can get you in... again, it's pretty much just a matter of timing, ime. My cousin was/is in a couple of punk groups from the 80's back home in LA and that opened the door for me. I then networked and networked. Promoters, bands, bouncers... basically anyone.
So my advice get someone to get your foot in the door and go from there. The only backstage that ever lived up to the hype of "backstage" for me were the Jane's Addiction shows in '97. Most of the others are just a bunch of people running around or hangers on. The people that said that the after parties were the place to be are absolutely correct.
