Hopefully they put on a greats show for a decent crowd Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: Back Off Bitch on November 21, 2006, 11:12:04 PM ^bumb
No updates or discussion? Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: kyrie on November 21, 2006, 11:16:47 PM Only a couple board members attending this show. So not likely to be too much discussion.
It's cool that they threw this one in though. Next leg, GNR should look into doing London again (sold out in 2002), Montreal, and something in B.C., Victoria if not Vancouver, and Hamilton. These Canadian shows are doing really well, Ottawa rocked, Toronto had a huge turnout, Calgary and Halifax sold out, etc. Hope those going tonight have a great show! Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: Chief on November 21, 2006, 11:17:54 PM it seems to me that they are probably banned from playing in Montreal.

He should still play both places again just to be cool. Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: Mr Patience on November 22, 2006, 01:40:47 AM Unbelievable show, these guys are tight. Chinese Democracy, Madagascar and PC as the encore........back to back shows for me (Halifax and Saint John) time to sleep.
Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: seadog2006 on November 22, 2006, 01:49:56 AM It was unbelievable - tight band! Amazing sound. Axl's voice was in top form. Only a few empty seats.
One of the highlights was when the whole band played "Liqour & Whores". The Trailer Park Boys weren't there but they did it anyway. Axl said "That was unplanned". The crowd loved that. We got 3 encores... CD, Madagascar, and Paradise City. Nice! They were very classy, thanking the audience and the opening acts at the end of the show. This has to be one of the best shows to come through this city! I'm exhausted, maybe I'll write more tomorrow. Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: Mr Patience on November 22, 2006, 01:50:47 AM Oh and from the looks of it , it was close to sold out. On a side note, Liquor and Whores was played again.....but this time without the TPB. No KOHD. Better, The Blues, IRS and as mentioned before, Chinese Democracy and Madagascar were all played.
Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: Mr Patience on November 22, 2006, 01:53:59 AM I got laugh from the "Fuck Portland" sign Axl got from a fan and displayed on stage...

Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: Will on November 22, 2006, 04:20:28 AM No KOHD? I thought they played that song at every single gig since the shows since late 1988.

Post by: Psychophobia on November 22, 2006, 06:28:19 AM Damn it, sounds like I should've made a road trip - St. John definately got the better setlist of the two Maritime shows if they included IRS and CD, and finally dropped KOHD! : ok:

Title: Re: Saint John, NB November 21 Thread Discussion. Post by: GNFNRAXL on November 22, 2006, 11:51:06 AM All right. On to my review of last night's show in St-John. I'll run by the opening acts really fast. First of all as the night went along, the more people there was in the arena. By the time Guns N' Roses played there was probably around 4000 people, maybe a little more. No more than 5000 anyways. So the arena was no more than half full. Die Mannequin was not very good. Not horrible neither but not good. Sound was horrible. After that the darndest thing happened. I went to a GNR concert and I ended up in a strip club. Seriously then it was the Suicide Girls. They got WAY MORE of a reaction from the crowd. The male portion of it anyways. Then it was The Trews. They were AWESOME! I was bummed that Baz wasn't there. Now I am glad he wasn't. The Trews totally rocked! Die Mannequin took the stage at 8:30. And The Trews left at around 10:45. I think.
Guns took the stage at 11:30 or maybe 11:40. I'd like to say from the get go that during the whole show not once did I tell myself this would've been better if it was the old lineup. Axl seems totally happy to be on stage. He moves, runs, jumps all over the stage during the whole show. His voice is in very good shape. I HAVE NEVER and do mean NEVER seen Axl in such good spirits. Like I said he looks happy to be there, he is into it and seems to be having the time of his life on that stage. I don't think I've seen having this much fun even during the Illusions tour. And the band seems to be tight and are clearly having the time of their lives as well on that stage. The things that I noticed though is that people say that Finck and Fortus don't seem to be interacting with Bumble as much as they are with the rest of the band. It is true. BUT! In their defense, Bumblefoot seems to be in his own bubble on that stage. And that is not a knock against him. To the contrary. He seems to be having a blast on stage. Axl interacted with him a lot. They seem to get along. Finck interacted with Bumble during Paradise though and they seem to enjou each other on stage. As for the solos. The crowd did seemed turn off by them. Especially the Fortus Finck one because it was so long. The crowd loved Bumblefoot's solo but that could be due to the fact that he played the national anthem and don't cry. I was surprised that they played 5 songs from their upcoming album. The thing that irked me though was the fact that he never once said "this is a song from our upcoming album" or something like that. But the band seemed to be giving a tad little extra when they played the new ones. Also I can't do this review without mentioning the fact that Robin Finck played Sweet Child O' Mine perfectly last night. I'll even say that he played probably even better than Slash. Way to go Robin. Axl seems to love the Trailer Park Boys. When they played liquors and whores he said something along the line that "this song makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside". All in all a fantastic show! I give it a 4.5 stars out of 5 and is probably the second best show I have ever seen and maybe the best one period. And one last thing. I thought this tour was a money grab before last night. IT IS NOT! Axl seems to be loving every minute of that tour. Here is hoping that the album is out in 06. Here is the setlist again. May not be in the exact order. welcome to the jungle its so easy mr brownstone live and let die knockin on heavens door better Finck solo Sweet Child o mine you could be mine the blues Liquors and whores Fortus and Finck solo out ta get me november rain IRS Bumblefoot solo My Michelle Patience night train Encore Chinese Democracy madagascar paradice city PS:A lot of people thought that the album was released yesterday and were bummed when I told them it wasn't. I don't know if anyone noticed how many pictures of BBF are on robinfinck.com lately : ok: ? R&R are together for few years now... BBF just joined the band recently. So it takes some time. But now seems the time has come & the chemistry between the whole band is amazing. Even Frank!!! Thanks for the great review and great to hear you enjoyed it! It was a lot more than half full, my guess would be 6500 people. A lot of people left before the end of the show because it went so late though. It was a Tuesday night so I can't blame them totally.
