Title: can someone help identify this song to me....
Post by: nateinthehon on November 19, 2006, 11:15:13 PM
This is the second time, a song, that may not even exist has been stuck in my head out of the blue

All I can hear is the chorus of..."I changed the locks on My Back Door"...I know the next line ryhmes with that, but I dont remember what it is. It's like a folky/acoustic rock song, with an upbeat tempo. For a weird reason, I think it's either a Tom Petty or Melissa Etheridge tune

ANyone have a clue?

Last time I had a song stuck in my head out of the blue was Ride On By AC/DC. All I remmebered was one of these days I'm gonna change my evil ways...but I couldnt figure out what song it was

I'm 95% sure this isn't what you're talking about, but your post reminded me of "Move it on Over" by Hank Williams. Even though it doesn't really have a chorus, one of the main lines is "She changed the locks on my front door". It's a 1940s country song that a million people have covered since then, and I'd say "folky" and "upbeat" describe at least one of the versions that I've heard. I don't know.

Are you thinking of Barenaked Ladies "The Old Apartment"?? Sounds alot like what you described (slow, folky acoustic song). Good song too.

Broke into the old apartment
This is where we used to live
Broken glass, broke and hungry
broken hearts and broken bones
This is where we used to live

Why did you paint the walls?
Why did you clean the floor?
Why did you plaster over the hole I punched in the door?
This is where we used to live

Why did you keep the mousetrap?
Why did you keep the dishrack?
these things used to be mine
I guess they're still , I want them back

Broke into the old apartment
Forty-two stairs from the street
Crooked landing, crooked landlord
Narrow laneway filled with crooks.
This is where we used to live.

Why did they pave the lawn?
why did they change the locks?
Why did I have to break in, I only came here to talk

This is where we used to live

How is the neighbor downstairs?
How is her temper this year?
I turned up your TV and stomped on the floor just for fun
I know we don't live here anymore
We bought an old house on the Danforth
She loves me and her body keeps me warm
I am happy there
But this is where we used to live

Broke into the old apartment
Tore the phone out of the wall
Only memories, fading memories
Blending into dull tableaux

I want them back

no neither of these two songs, thanks for the suggestion. I listened to them on Itunes

The beat, or general rythem sounds Tom Petty'ish. Like a Bluesy/Folk mix

I changed The Locks on My Back DOor
Dah Dah Dha Da Dha
I aint .....Dah Dah Dha

I dunno, Its been driving me nuts though

I think it came on the radio, like on my alarm, and I was all groggy hearing it, and now cant get it out of my head

Hmmm, now I could swear your talking about George Thoroughgood. He covers the "Move it on over" and it seems to fit your description.

"I changed the locks on my back door
I ain't gonna see your face no more
so move it on over.. move it on over
Move over little darlin', the big old dog is moving in"

or something like that (it was from memory, not copied & pasted)

I finally found the song!!!! Its been like what 3 1/2 months since I made this post, but I found the song on Limewire...it's title was Change the Locks and says its from the shes the one soundtrack...

I changes the locks on my backdoor
Changes the mumbers on my phone....

Its a bluesy breakup song, somewhere between sad, happy  and bitter...very cool song
