Title: Help needed with Internet Explorer 7 settings
Post by: GypsySoul on November 17, 2006, 10:30:22 PM
First let me say that I am VERY computer illiterate so I hope I can explain the problem so I'm making sense.? :-[

Almost every time when I first try to access the internet and also when I try to access a different screen, I get a "connectivity" error message page.? On that error page it gives me a choice to have windows "diagnose" the issue but when it does it says that there is NOT a connectivity problem and when I refresh the webpage or whatever the internet comes up fine.?

I access the internet through a cable connection and there doesn't seem to be a problem with their end.
I removed the "yahoo tool bar" from my programs because somebody told me that might be the problem but the problem is still happening.? Also, I have Norton anti-virus so I don't know if it has something to do with that.

Is there a setting or something that I can adjust to fix this?

I'm really regret that I downloaded IE7.? :-\

Don't know.
Free Tip: Use Firefox 2.

Not that it helps but I am having issues with it too and no it has nothing to do with your connection.  Most times it works fine but sometimes I get the same message as you.  I am thinking it is probably just buggy being new.

Here is a troubleshooting page from Microsoft-

Not that I wish you or anyone else these problems but it's good to know I'm not the only one having them.

Thanks for the troubleshoot link, Bandita.? :)

firefox sux.

What's so cool about opera?

mouse gestures
speed
standard complient
light
has everything firefox has, beforehand and without having to add memory-using extension
works on any platform (windows, linux, mobile - i have opera mini on my mobile it's amazing - nintendo ds, nintendo wii)
stable
nicknames for pages

it's just better. and way less heavy for your pc.

Thanks for the help.

Question about downloading opera or firefox ... After I download one of them, should I "remove" the IE7 from my computer?? or can I download one or both of them and still leave the IE7 there so I can try them out to see which is better (read "easier") for me to use?

Edited to warn those of youze who have IE7 that if you take too long to think n' type what you wanna say, then when you hit the "post" button that's when you get that "connectivity" error message page too.? And whatever you do, DO NOT hit the "refresh" button or it deletes what you just typed.? :(

Microsoft sucks hard! Try Opera. Firefox is okay, but Opera is even better. Try it. You won't regret. : ok:

You shouldn't have any problems. If you do, you have online support 24/7 here. :hihi:

I actually began to use Opera when I downloaded IE 7 Beta a few weeks ago, and a friend of mine who's a computer geek told me how much it sucked and pointed countless bugs, so he said I could try Opera. I did, and now I'm in love with it.

24/7 HTGTH online support, huh?? I bet within the first 4 to 6 hours that I drive half of the 7490+ of youze over the edge with my stupid questions.? :hihi:

They sure give you a lot of buttons and stuff to choose stuff from .... too bad I have no clue what any of them means.?

You asked for it ... here it comes....

You know how I have OCD about posting the birthdays, right?? Well I was just in the bday thread to post tomorrows bdays and the top line where I write "Happy November 19 Birthday" that I always post with the "glow" button ... none of them are in glow anymore? ... they're all just ugly black lettering.? What's up with that??? :'(

Title: Re: Help needed with Internet Explorer 7 settings

I had never noticed that... But now that you've mentioned it, yes they are.

Weird. I have no idea why, I'll have a look.

Are the glow letters in bbcode?  That may be the issue.

is "bbcode" the numbers that come up after where it says the color? ... like ... glow=red,2,300

if that's what bbcode is then all I know is that before I just changed the color to whatever other one I wanted to use and left the number the same and it was never an issue

but for right now I'm okay with just using the drop-down change color thing

Next "opera" problem ... How do I add the icon thing to take me back to my homepage?? I tried looking in the "Help" to see if I could find the answer there but I don't understand how to use the help thing? :-[

Edited to add:? I already deleted one of those search things because I thought I was just hiding it.? Well actually I did hide it very well cause I got no clue where it went to? :hihi:
I didn't want that one anyways? :P

Edit #2:  I FOUND THE HOME ICON  ;D
Now how do I delete those other ones?

well, i downloaded "opera" cause that one guy said it was good, ....and it is, I already like it a hell of a lot better than IE

Yes, that is bbcode, what's used on this message board to create the glow text and other options.

I think it is built into IE but not sure about Opera, I am a glutton for punishment and keep using Microsoft.

Those other what? ?:hihi:

Not sure what you mean there...

Try this: Tools > Appearance > Toolbars

I just tried out Opera and I couldn't see the bbcode on there either.  Just comes across as black text.  Other than that it seems to be a good browser-it certainly loads a hell of a lot faster than IE 7.

I confused you in less than an hour. ?That's a new record for me! ?:hihi:

Those other icons and things that are listed by default. ?I want to delete some of those and add ones that I know how to use. ?So by learning how to do that now then later on I'll be able to find out what those other ones do and if I find any that I think are good, I'll already know how to add them.

Well I like it better than IE7 because I haven't got that "connectivity" error so far. ?

But mine doesn't seem to be loading faster ? ? As a matter of fact, it seems to take a little longer for all the smilies and buttons to change from the words to the smilie. ? It's no biggie ... it's only a matter of seconds I guess but it's noticable because before I didn't see the description word before the smilie appears. ?Like it'lls say GRIN and then a few seconds later the ?;D appears.

I don't understand why it would take a couple of days for it to load faster?? ???
Unless you mean that the more familiar I get with it, the easier I'll find where/how to adjust the settings maybe?
Right now I think most if not all of my internet problems are a result of "user error"?  :-\

Me neither. I have no idea why or how, I just know that after a while it'll load faster.

Opera was a gazzillion times better than IE 7 and I'm sure having all these things you have listed is what puts opera at the top of the best browsers to use.? And I hope in the near future that I'll be using them all like a pro!? ?

Unfortunately, it was too advanced for me.? As I mentioned before, I am extremely computer illiterate.? :-\
I know what a 'mouse' is but NOT 'mouse gestures' ... if this thing starts to 'gesture' I'm throwin it out the window!!! :nervous:

Anyways ....
I downloaded Firefox 2 and so far I've been able to figure out how to set it up the way I want and am happy with it.? :)

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR ALL THE HELP!!!?
