Title: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: italysfinest1985 on November 13, 2006, 12:14:25 AM There has been some debate as to whether Merck was being sarcastic or not when he stated that a release date for Chinese Democracy may not be announced, and it may just surface in stores. Do you feel he was being sarcastic or did he mean what he said?
Talking Metal seems to side with the stance that he was being honest, and that they wouldn't be surprised at this point if it was a surprise. So what do you think fellow Gunners: Sarcasm...or Not? Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: Sober_times on November 13, 2006, 12:19:43 AM Worst.....thread.....ever.

Post by: Loaded NightraiN on November 13, 2006, 12:19:53 AM I'd love to think scarcastic.. But knowing the way GNR is handled he was serious ?

Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: Goddamn_Electric on November 13, 2006, 12:37:51 AM If it's honestly coming out this year - I'm thinking more and more that it could be true.
Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: Risico on November 13, 2006, 12:38:34 AM Sarcasm, if only because I really, really don't want it to be true.
Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: The Estranged MrFlashbax on November 13, 2006, 12:40:31 AM does this mean all of us hardcore fans are gonna show up at our local record stores now and scour through the "G" section EVERY tuesday til the end of the year? :hihi:
Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: SterileEyes on November 13, 2006, 12:47:07 AM as the end of the year draws nearer, this seems more plausible... but come on now.. it'd be a marketing suicide if the album suddenly shows up in stores with no announcement or promotion It's also marketing suicide if they put it out with months of promotion and a ton of money spent on promoting...even if it sold 600k its first week people would call it a failure. So they'll spring it as a surprise so that you can't define it as a failure no matter what due to extraordinary circumstances. Seems simple enough to me... Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: JimMorrison4 on November 13, 2006, 12:48:01 AM Sarcasm. No one is that stupid enough to a drop a cd, that's had $15million put into it, with no promotion.
Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: grog mug on November 13, 2006, 12:48:45 AM Why would he be sarcastic? ?If they wanted to promote it don't you think Axl would mention it at one of his shows? ?He has NEVER mentioned the album ONCE in 2006 unless he was forced to by an interviewer. ?It's going to be a surprise.
Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: The Estranged MrFlashbax on November 13, 2006, 12:52:51 AM man, i hate you guys... now i'm really gonna end up going to the store every tuesday and looking for the album >:(

It's not being promoted because it's not coming out. Be realistic. Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: grog mug on November 13, 2006, 12:58:02 AM If it's not coming out then why tour? Whats the point, just to tour? He is playing new songs, but he WON"T play anymore NEW songs until the album is released. All of this touring this year under the name "Chinese Democracy" has to mean something right? Just too many questions waiting to be answered. It'll be out this year.
Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: JimMorrison4 on November 13, 2006, 01:09:50 AM You could have asked those same questions on new years in 2000 or any time during the 2002 tour (which was also the Chinese Democracy tour).
Chinese Democracy DOES mean something... it's something that's never going to happen. Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: misterID on November 13, 2006, 01:22:57 AM There is no way Universal would pump millions into an album to have it just show up with no promotion, just like they wouldn't let someone just decide not to release it.
Be real, if it just showed up it would not set the world on fire. Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: Crowebar on November 13, 2006, 01:23:41 AM Truth.
The albums coming out. Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: supaplex on November 13, 2006, 01:29:49 AM they'll have promotion. even if it's just a weekend but it will happen.
Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: Eazy E on November 13, 2006, 02:24:06 AM Ok, for the 50th millionth, billionth time... Releasing it without announing a release date is DIFFERENT from releasing it WITHOUT PROMOTION.
The band is on TOUR for the album right now and OBVIOUSLY has a commercial featuring a new song being released, so the album is already being promoted with more promotion on the way. Saying the album will have "no promotion" doesn't make any sense. So yeah, they could release it with no announcement, but I think he was being sarcastic about the comment. Of course, as each week goes by, the amount of time available between an announcement and the CD's release only get's smaller and smaller.... Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: -Jack- on November 13, 2006, 02:36:58 AM I think Merck's comment was probably serious.
But I could see why it would be thought of as sarcastic. And yeah.. releasing it by surprise.. and not having promo are two different things. Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: jazjme on November 13, 2006, 05:20:14 AM I look at it as this, one friday evening, an announcement is gonna be giving (and mind you this is only speculation on my part), that the album will be released on the coming tues? whatever that is. It will circulate amonst all the gnr community, then be pulled and we crazy mofos will tell everyone and thier mother about it, come monday a huge marjority of people will know aobut it, the local news outlets will go nuts from the insanely high traffic on the internet of CD eminent release. Entertainment to night, the indsider , all the entertainment new sources, MTV, etc, will go nuts and be esasperated, when announcing , that it is official GNR's LONG AWAITD CD< is hitting the shelves tomorrow!
You know damn well all our cxollective asses will be out in force, that nextr day!. So tell me its that not a good marketing plan? I dunno. BUt like I said Im only creating a scenario and speculating. BUT I made myself excited! oh my stance, btw, is I think , feel its legit Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: whiny on November 13, 2006, 05:49:01 AM i hope the merck statement is just the promotion before the real promotion. this way the album can be hyped at least twice in a short period of time...
ps: don't think that this is the "worst thread ever" as one of you has stated: i'd rather say, that it's one of the major concerns in the gnr-fan-world (right now) being discussed. Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: nesto111 on November 13, 2006, 07:16:54 AM Remember what happened to the Limp Bizkit CD that appeared without promotion, single etc ................. ;D

Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: tHeElEcTrIcSiNtAr on November 13, 2006, 08:15:41 AM I dont think they will release it without announcing it, but its not going to be announced a month in advance or anything. I say there will be 2 weeks or less before the release date that it will be announced.
Title: Re: Choose Your Stance: Sarcasm or Truth? Post by: italysfinest1985 on November 13, 2006, 09:27:36 AM Wow, it really seems this topic is debatable. I thought it was only debatable in my mind (and everyone but me assumed it was sarcasm)...I'm glad I posted this thread?
