Title: November 10, 2006. [Madison Square Garden] DISCUSSION
Post by: Demon Wolf on November 10, 2006, 02:46:07 PM
Noticed we didn't have one of these. Well, I live in ice-cold Sweden so I am not going, but I hope those of you who are will have an awesome time! Anyone knows if someone will provide updates?

Enjoy!

Too Soon!

Hopefully I'm the first to predict in this thread that GNR will/won't play a bunch of new tunes tonight, and that there will/won't be an album announcement. (Circle applicable.)

I'm going to be in Toronto and Ottawa, which are  a week away, so I'm curious as to whether any new songs will show up tonight... I sure as hell hope so, since that might mean we get them next week.

I hope somebody could do some video of this show.
Those americans are blaming security for not videoing shows, but thats crap at most arenas according to my americans friends.
If you want to get in with a videoplayer or a good mobilphone camera you just do that.
I hope the americans dont blow the chance to pay back the europeans that has feeded them with mp3 and videos for a year now.

When i wake up tomorrow i want to edit: gnr madison garden 2006 at youtube.com and watch as i steak my egg and beacon and drink my FUCKING plenty of suger added Florida fucking orange juice.

Its just another daaaaaaay yeahyeyy..

I dont care. Let Axl do it his way. Serious, dont you think he has a little plan with what he is doing.

Its only the die hard/die hard forum fans that want to hear new songs. The old and new public has to hear the legacy from the AFD period that is a undying chapter. There would be a good period/hearing for us when some of the new songs would be implanted in the shows among the old stuff.

I'll be there - I'm expecting a kick-ass show - full of energy - great crowd - great participation - hopefully great sound - but I am absolutely NOT going
in there expecting to hear Prostitute, Sorry, or anything else that I have never heard -  I want Madagascar as the Encore - oh yes, I almost forgot -
Drop Knocking on Heaven's Door & Live & Let Die ( probably a total of 10 minutes ) and replace with Estranged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't there a curfew at MSG? ?I think Guns will take the stage earlier than they have been.. like in 2002? ?Didn't they take the stage about an hour earlier in 2002 than they normally did? ?They were also going on about an hour - an hour and a half earlier in 2002 then they are in 2006.

Hope you don't miss too much of the show!

Doubt we will hear a totally new song, but a chance of something not played on the tour yet - TWAT would be great, Perfect Crime or Nice Boys would work too. Anyway, I don't really care what they play, if it's anything like as good as Hammerstein that will do for me. Oh yeah, 209 :)

I also doubt there will be anything new tonight, however I think that if any performance before the album release has a chance of containing anything we haven't heard before, it's this one.

First of all, they've already played five concerts (including the accousic set) in NYC this year.
Second, this will be their first sold-out show of the tour (starting Oct. 24th), being the biggest audience yet.

I don't know. It's just funny that they've shut down everything except the news & MSG threads today. They may be expecting A LOT of visitors. Shutting down board sections would help keep the board online in a case like that, wouldn't it? ????

This show, is the most important show for the new GNR to date, IMHO.  This will set the stage for the upcoming year--with the AP story being carried by virtually every news service on the planet, they are in the news.  A follow up to that news blip, with reviews of "GNR rocks NYC!" will really be a huge boost to the band and their confidence!  It is going to be tough to top the 2002 MSG and Hammerstein shows, but I have a feeling this band seems to rise to the challenge and loves the spotlight.  Huge show, and although I hate to say it, in some ways it's a make or break situation.

Tickets were 57 dollars in 02 and they are now 90, that's a crazy jump man

It is possible you might of had fun and enjoyed yourself even if they didn't play anything new, but I'm sure you had more fun sitting at home on the internet bitching about the setlist anyway.

A lot of anticipation for tonight.  I REALLY do hope something big goes down.  NOT a new song, we have enough of those already.  How about an ANNOUCEMENT?!  It's as good as any...bring it on...!

I can picture Axl coming out after the the last song and say :Thanks for coming out. By the way, the album drops on 'a' tuesday. GOOD NIGHT!"

If you think the album release date will be divulged as stage banter, not only are you going to be disappointed, but you just aren't very smart.

Maybe next time I'll write out "This Is A Joke" so you can understand it a little better, smart guy.

Yeah, that "joke" was hilarious douchebag, you should be proud of your wit.

It wasn't meant to be hilarious, sweet heart. And why don't you try reading next time before you act like a tool.

I just hope they rocked MSG like they did in '02... except even harder... and as far as the set list goes... we all would have cut our left arms off in '02 to hear Better or IRS or Used to Love Her or My Michelle (with Baz) or Bumblefoot's Don't Cry solo, etc... This is NOT the same setlist as '02.

it was a killer show...Jungle opened and in the middle of the song a girl hands Axl something..I think a Brazilian flag off on the left end of the stage..Not sure if it was a Brazilian flag but the colors were similar.

A few people from I gather the seats section tried to hop over the barricades between the GA section and seated floor section.

Just got back.

REst assured...Axl was simply amazing, the band was slammin. my only complaint would be with frank's timing during the outro to nightrain and the outro to paradise city. but an awesome show!!

robin went into the crowd for the outro of nightrain....he looked f-cked up! lol he played well tonight!!!!

Axl didnt say too much, they played used to love her, Better sounded awesome, CD sounded great, the Blues sounded great...Jungle was intense....no rocketqueen....Patience rocked!!

the crowd was ELECTRIC. i got there about 10:30, they started at about 11:11. crpwd was pumped, chanting for GNR during the intermission between PR and GNR. NYC loves Axl Rose. I saw Beta to the side of the stage. Baz was his crazy self...to quote Axl "Never a dull moment" with regards to Baz.

im not sure ANYTHING can compare to 2002 in MSG, but this show was amazing. the crowd was SOO loud, singing along to every song...well almost every song. lively, exciting crowd!!!

I'd like to add.

Bach...8;01pm..finished at 9pm..
P roach started 9:32 and ended a bit after 10:16pm
Guns up at 11:10pm and finished at 1:24am with the entire band taking their bows and house lights up at 1:28am.

While I cant say this was better or equal to 2002, it comes close to it without question. ?Axl's voice was energetic.

I did wish they played Madagascar and Rocket Queen but you can get so much in such a period of time.

I saw baz start lookin at him and pointed him out to the gaurds and baz more or less said, you want some come and get it.  my friend just stood there all wasted still with the middle finger up lol'

He actually got back into MSG cause he went and bought a new shirt and hat and told the head of security he had to call his mom and didnt have service, so they let him back in suprisingly.  but nonetheless, it was funny and we had a good time after!   GNR fucking rocks!

EXACTLY! I went last night, and while I thought it was a great show, It was very average. Here's a quick review:

BACH: One word...Awful. He sucked hard, and you almost felt bad, because he mentioned how happy he was to finally be playing MSG. But his new music sucks, and he kept on yelling to someone off stage about the sound. Regardless of what people who had GA tickets say, no one was into him. If those people could turn around they'd see people in their seats bored. People cheered for Youth Gone Wild and some Skid Row classics but that was it.

PAPA ROACH: By the end of Papa Roach's set, I think they made a lot of new fans. They were excellent and really got the crowd pumped. Shaddix can sing his ass off and he just has great energy. It was a great idea to have them on the tour, one of the better and successful opening bands I've seen. Really got the job done.

GUNS: I guess the surprise of the night was how tight the band sounded and the fact that there were ZERO sound problems. Otherwise, typical set, no down on the farm, or perfect crime like some thought there would be. I think a few people walked away dissapointed just because we were all waiting to here something special for MSG and it didn't come. But the band was terrific, like I said, really tight, and wowed the crowd. Sold Out? Not at all, there were lots of empty seats up in the 300 and 400 sections. But GNR owned every person who was there

Bach was awesome even though his sound was off. And I was surprised more people were not into him on the floor. The people in the seats were. AT worcester Bach got more cheers than papa roach did. Bach even alluded to that last nite when he said for the last song at least be as loud as the last crowd the other night. I cant belive you thought he sucked. HIs voice was great. I cant belive you think that the papa roach singer sang better than Bach. Papa roach sucks.

As for the show not being sold out. The show was sold out. There were very few empty seats and those were sold, they were either from people who didnt make the show or scaplers they couldnt sell the tix.  For the seats that were avaible 99% of them were fllled.

Ok so i was at the show too i was on the baracade on the left of the stage and it was fuckin great heres my review

Right when i got there bumblefoot was there and me and my friend started yelling his name and he came over, gave everyone high-fives and even posed for a picture with us. then when bach came on u blew he was getting pissed at the sound guy and was also mad that the people didnt know the words to his songs, sorry but its not our faults that skid row sucks ass (sebastian is a dickhead) then papa roach came on and they were great jumpin around gettin the crowd into it and even jumping into the crown he was right in front of me, then gnr came on and it was fuckin great the place was packed out, bumblefoot threw me and my friend pics and the whole band seemed into it, fink crowd surfed, he seemed drunk outta his mind most the show, fortus is great too had so much energey the whole show, tommy just seemd to be there not doing much but he did seem 2 have fun, and frank was great u could tell how much fun he was having. then me and my friend ran 2 the middle of GA 4 the wistle during paradise city and we both alomst had it , it was so dark and i saw it barely leaned down to get it and some guy slid on the floor picked it up outta my hand and ran i was soo pissed, after the show we wetn to where they leave and we saw scott ian and sebastian bach, scott was in such a rush and woulndt stop 4 everyone, bach was shakin people hands and takin pictures (prob just so people could recognize him) then we were waiting outside hoping 4 GNR but then we knew they werent comin out 4 awhile as a pizza guy brought about 16 pies into the garden, never has pizza got my hopes down lol i could just imagine that phone call "hi yes i would like 16 pies of pizza to madison sqaure garden under then name Axl rose please" anyway thats my review in all great show, sure alitle upset that no news on chinese democract but hey i aint gunna let that ruin my fun time

Couldn't agree more.  Def not a bad show, but def not a GREAT show either.  I'm glad I didn't spend a ton of money on tickets.

The sound in the 300s was kinda weak, was tough to hear axl for a few songs, but the crowd was singing a long to most of them so you oculdn't hear him anyways.

LOTS of people sitting down during the solos and the new songs.  weird crowd around us too, there were some dudes literally in their 40s-50s behind us, one guy had a cane! haha.  but they were rocking out.

good show though, it was a fun night.  Rose Pizzeria is the BEST place to go to pre concert  : ok:

You know there were alot of older people at the shows I was at too. I saw several people in their 50s at the shows I was at.

Plus then you've got that one guy from West Virginia's infamous story about the grandma that kept grabbing him.

He didnt stink up the place. The only full section was teh floor when he went on. When he went on in worcester the place was half full. The reason it wasnt loud for bach is not because he sucked it was because no one was there? yet. His performance was far from a train wrek. He sang great. I really dont know what set you were watching. The fact is no one was standing for papa roach either in the seated section.

Bach even alluded to that last nite when he said for the last song at least be as loud as the last crowd the other night.

Uhhh...hello? That's my point. MSG wasn't loud for Bach because he stunk the place up. People in the GA were into him, but everyone else was sitting down and watching the train wreck that was his performance.

He didnt stink up the place. The only full section was teh floor when he went on. When he went on in worcester the place was half full. The reason it wasnt loud for bach is not because he sucked it was because no one was there  yet. His performance was far from a train wrek. He sang great. I really dont know what set you were watching. The fact is no one was standing for papa roach either in the seated section.

There were a lot of people (myself included) standing up for Papa Roach. I'm a Skid Row fan, but even I'll agree that Papa Roach was better last night.

i dont know...i was DJing tonight, i didnt get there until about 10:30 or so....the place was pretty full, people knew Axl might start early in NYC....thats why i was so worried about getting there late.....but when we walked in, PR was long gone....so it worked out perfect actually.

Axl seemed in a good mood again tonight. i gotta say again though...tons of love from the crowd!!! NJ was a blah show....sunday night, lots of tired people, lots of people mad about work on Monday....Tonight....this crowd was PUMPED. VERY LOUD singing, u couldnt hear Axl on songs like SCOM, Patience, November Rain b/c the crowd was so loud.

robin had a cool solo....Fortus was better sunday night for his solo, but his was great tonight nonetheless. if i walked away with anything...it was the crowd being so loud, and soooo pumped to see their man!

after the show, the streets of nyc were filled with Axl and GNR talk.

Finck was my favorite guitarist going into the night but i thought his solo sucked so hard. I gained so much respect for Ron and my new fav richard.

really I loved robins solo I liked it much more than rons or richards.

normally, i like fortus' solo the best. but i thought finck was trippy, crazy, wild, nasty, messy, creative, dynamic...all-in-all, he was good last night..ron is cool and all...i dont know, i dont dig his look or playing. fortus is amazing on guitar.

My only problem with Rons guitar playing is that he some times shreds when its not needed. I still dont like his shredding KOHD solo, it doesnt fit the song. BHs made the song sadder how it should  be. Ron just shreds it.  A few other songs he shreds too when he shouldnt be but Ron is great on most songs

i agree. the knockin shred doesn't work. honestly, i dont like shredding too much at all...although i did love BH's playing. not going there.

You must have been at a different show than I last night. The people in seats on the side of the stage were up the entire time for Papa Roach. The lead singer was constantly going over to those sections and recognizing them.

Listen, you're entitled to your opinion about music, but I'm just telling you what I saw from my seats (section 86 row A) I saw a bored crowd for Bach (yes, not a lot of people to see him anyway) and an enthused crowd for P Roach

the show was average.? exactly what i expected... no complaints...

Papa roach sucks.?

As for the show not being sold out. The show was sold out. There were very few empty seats and those were sold, they were either from people who didnt make the show or scaplers they couldnt sell the tix.? For the seats that were avaible 99% of them were fllled.

Just to add on to what you said Dave, I agree the show was sold out......a lot of people left their seats and went down to where I was setting by the Mixing board and basically turned that into a second GA.  The three seats behind me had people seated in them and I later saw them down on the railing.  The funny thing to me was that the place was still pretty empty up until the last 2 or 3 songs from Papa Roach......people are preparing themselves for Axl being late.   This girl setting beside me said after Papa Roach was done, "How much longer do we have before they start" and of course I replied with "well, I don't know if soon is the word" and laughed......and of course she was like "are you fucking retarded"  Okay she didn't say that last part, but I did break out the soon quote.

Sad though but Bach wasn't terrible but the sound was just rough. ?I wasn't surprised Scott Ian came to play a song. ?
Papa Roach I thought played an excellent set as the lead singer came from the stage and interacted with the fans in front of the barriacdes, both sides.
P Roach's drummer at the end stood up in the middle of the stage and gave that heart pound to the crowd which I thought was nice. ?
The GA section was filling up around 10:45pm and I was standing in the back watching the whole show.

What can I say what hasn't already been said...the show kicked, rocked and made Friday night memorable...but man I think the GA section got hammered with huge loads of ?confetti that it felt like New Year's Eve. ? It was just an amazing night.

OMG!  This show rocked!  Rolled in the place around 9:30.  Skipped out on Bach to drink a bit... Going to the bathroom before GNR got on was like being in high school all over again.  If you walked in there, you would lose like 5 years of your life because of all the second-hand smoke.  People did not care at MSG.  It was one giant party!  When Papa Roach was on, we had fun booing the shit out of him and laughing hard at his gay ass.  He totally didn't belong on this show.  He ain't the same genre even.  Anyways... I wish I would have brought my camera inside.  They did not care at all.  You could have brought some heavy duty recording devices and filmed that shit for bootleg DVDs.  MSG did not care.  You live and you learn.

I was buying another beer at a stand after hotboxing a cigarette in a stall like in high school and then the music started thumping the floor.  I'm forcing money in the woman's hand and took the beer out of her hand before she could serve it to me and storm the arena back to my floor seat.  They were doing Jungle and I missed like a minute of the opening.  I clearly thought I'd be waiting a lot longer before they decided to come on.  THey didn't pull that shit Friday night.  I think it might have been around 11:15 or so.  I was in Section 5, Row N.  Not bad.  I could still see plenty of Axl's cornrows.

My fav was You Could Be Mine.  THey ripped that shit apart.  The crowd was goin' nuts.  I was goin' nuts.  Knockin' on Heaven's Door was a great one too.  The crowd got heavy into it.  Axl was doing that shit right.  Great response from the crowd.  Some kids came over and got in the middle of our floor seats to get high.  We hid them from sight and sang along with Axl.  Good times.  Live and Let Die was good too.  IRS was also a good new one.  I had been listening to that one for a week or two beforehand so I was sort of familiar with it and I like that one the best out of all the new album... even though it's not released yet.

Dizzy had some dreadlocks.  I was laughing at that shit, but whatever.  It's Dizzy.  Man was playing the keys with heart.  Solid.  Go DIzzy!

Robin Finck.  You ROCK man!  Lunacy!  And Ron Fortus man!?!  YOU FUCKING RIP SHIT APART!  God fucking DAMN!  RIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Dude was vain and shit showin' off his ripped abs too.  I ain't hatin' though.

Bumblefoot could hold his own, but I think Fortus and Finck made him look weak in comparison for the solos at this show.

Wish I was in Section 6 because I wanted that mic Axl threw out in the crowd.  I bet some blows were thrown for that shit.  Don't be surprised if some deutsch puts out multiple mics on Ebay claiming it's the authentic mic.  Haha.

Overall, fantastic blowout of a show!  Fucking awesome!  Loved it.  I want more.  I remember jumping up and down on the couch when I got home from middle school for MTV Rocks and Guns videos.  Man, I've been waiting too long for this shit to happen.  I'm really happy right now.  Everyone at the show seemed really happy to be there.  Hope it happens again real soon.  This was also the first time I got to party in NYC.  Great experience!
