Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I called my local Best Buy about 20mins ago and asked if the had a release date yet for GN'R.? The guy on the phone said they don't have an official date yet but Best Buy was told by GN'Rs record company that it would be end of Nov. (28th) or 1st week of Dec.? Others should call their local Best Buy and see what they say.

Wow it's really happening... I'm basically in a state of shock at the moment with your post and the other guys post about someone working at a Virgin record store.

id wait until sunday morning to get excited about this.

I just called someone at my local store...he was very confused and basically said, i have no clue.

I called the new Best Buy in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada and they said that they don't have a release date for a new Guns N' Roses CD.

On the phone now with Best Buy and the guy has nothing on the computer in front of him. Although he is a guns fan and curious, so said he "would look into it more", which is pretty nice of him. So I'm on hold............

Came back and said "That Democracy CD, is that what you are talking about?" I said yes, and he said that they didn't have any info on it, but he was excited about it maybe coming out one day, and............... :hihi: If I heard anything about the release, to call him at Best Buy and let him know.  :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: (yea seriously)

Real nice guy, talked to him for a few minutes, and he was a guns fan...................but zilch.

I should also note that about 3 years ago there were a couple of stores who had it listed with a release date. I called and confirmed..............and then nothing.

a listing somewhere would actually be very weird, since it`s supposed to be a surprise release... (so far anyways...)

Call and ask for somone in th cd area if you guys don't believe.? Don't know if you will get the same guy but I'm sure someone else will know.? Call.  I'm sure you can find the number.

I called mine a couple days ago, and I got some coached lecture from some little girl on how it is not guns n roses, but axl's solo project, and they don't expect it to be coming out anytime soon.  Funny stuff.

I'm always checking towerrecords website and I've never seen any mention of it.. I'd call my Best Buy and ask them (Phx), but a) I'm at work, and b) like most of us, I'm of the opinion that we'll 'see it when we see it'..

Even if we *confirm* a release, it's not going to make it show up that much faster..

Don't check Tower they are bankrupt and going out of business.

I wasn't rude, as I was impressed on her coaching.  I was on hold while she checked on it, she was clueless at first....then she got back on the phone with this diatribe..and you could hear her manager in the background telling her what to say. ....I disagreed with her, then she brought up the, well Axl owns the name, but its still not GNR.  I didn't flame her, just said Axl is GNR, like Trent Reznor is NIN...it was a pleasant back and forth.  I also called several other stores for fun that day, and almost every person I talked to started laughing when I asked about it, I get a kick out if.  One guy even went so far as to say..."Wow, its actually coming out?".

I called 2 Best Buy stores and they did not have anything in their computer. 

But what was interesting was that neither of the people I spoke to seemed to know what Chinese Democracy was?  The first one asked me "is it a CD or a movie".  And I live in a large city, so much for no promotion. :no:

Called.. him: "Best Buy Media" me: "Yeah can you tell me if you have a release date for the new Guns N' Roses cd that's supposed to be coming out?"  him: "Let me see.. nope.. don't see anything recent".. me: "Thanks"..

That was only one store, but I'd expect that to be the general answer all around..

Well people are stupid. Rule 1. And considering that they probably hire girls with big tits and blonde hair before 18 year old guys with zits and a AC/DC t shirt on I'd say that is one of the reasons why the first one didnt know shit.

I worked at a Best Buy in MA while I was in college, I still have freinds who work there. I had them look and it is not in there system and is also not in their upcomming releases section of their weekly merch publication (internal)

They dont have it on their computers that's fine...but a few kbits of transfering stuff from Geffen or whatever will change that instantly. It can be nothing today and fill their screens tomorrow.

I work in best buy, and I haven't heard or seen anything.

Ehh. Me thinks he's just heard rumblings. Probably the same rumors that we see on this board.

Funny story...I was just in Tower (taking advantage of their 40% off sale) and the guy in front of me asked the counter guy when the new GNR was coming out.  The counter guy explained they were going out of business and they weren't getting new releases...but the customer insisted he check the computer just in case.  So the counter guy checked the computer and said..."oh yeah, here it is, it's coming out in two weeks.  The same day as the new Nirvana CD."  Obviously screwing with him...this went totally over the customer's head who said..."Really, a new Nirvana?  I didn't know those guys were still together."

I was in a Best Buy today, and the salesperson there found nothing on the computer regarding 'Chinese Democracy' :(

My best friend's uncle's brother's roommate told me that he was at the mall and talked to a guy who met a guy who had a sister who was at the mall yesterday and said she ran into an older guy who said the security guard said that he was at circut city and was told by a janitor who talked to a kid that talked to a guy who worked there and he said the album is out december 5th. True story, I swear, you can call circuit city to confirm.

Thats about as likely as all the rest.? :smoking:

i had a guy check for CD on the computer for me @ Best Buy. (in smalltown, AZ)

he was searching for about 10 minutes, and told me there is nothing listed for the next two months.? he said that he's looking forward to hearing it, too, and that he'd be keeping an eye out for it.

i really hope its not dec 5th

YOU guys suck.  I have no reason to make this up. I am a frequent poster on this board.  I never said it was in the Best Buy computer. I just told you what the guy on the phone told me.

My best friend works as a supervisor at best buy and I can tell you that whoever told you the end of november or first week in december is full of bullshit. The supervisor I know is a huge Guns fan and checks the company's computers daily for information on a release date and it's just there. There is no Chinese Democracy info in Best Buy computers. Sorry

Did you not read his post?? the guy said the sheet they get from the record company told them theres no definite date, but probably should be out last week of november or within first 2 weeks of december.

AGAIN, this goes back to the other thread on this board about concerns of a music employees release date about CD. it doesn't matter what any sheet given to any store says...music isn't sold from sheets, it is sold from computers and unless that information is in a CPU it doesn't matter. I just wrote on a napkin with purple crayon that Chinese Democracy is coming out November 21st...you know what that means? The same thing as Best Buy getting a sheet that says CD at the end of November.

When that information is put into a computer and the order for CD is placed, then we will have something to discuss

but if management is truely wanting to keep this secret they wouldnt be able to do thta until they got word from management (ok put it in the comp) and that should take just a few minutes

I'll ask the vendor at my store whats up with the release.  He'd be a good as source as any..plus there is already a rumor going around that a vendor has said Nov. 28 to be the date....I'll double check it next time I work.

Just called Best Buy in NoHo (manhattan)  to pay a bill and Im reading this thread, so I asked them if they had a release date and they said hold on, she starts talking to people that work there with the phone down and I cant really understand what they're saying.  Then she picks the phone back up and says "We originally had an early December release date but that has now been pushed back and we do not know when the release date is now."

7 more Tuesdays so we'll see.

Nothing's listed in the AllMusicGuide database. If the album gets a release it'll be posted there almost immediately. This is the system that Barnes, Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Borders, etc. etc. etc. run their music databases on. All release dates are processed through this database. Amazon also uses it (through third party or whatever).

I was at Best Buy tonight(Joliet IL) I asked the dude about a date, he had/found nothing as I expected...

So I asked him how long would it take, say if they just decided to drop it in on them...how much notice would there store have. He said by Fri, they would know what is coming on Tuesday.

Not that this has anything to do with anything, but Limp Bizkit released a CD a year ago or so, with no advertisement whatsoever. All the sudden it was in the ad papers in the Sunday paper for a Tues release

I think with all the hype,speculation, and all the pressure it brings on the album, I feel jsut sneaking it out is a fantastic idea. Instead of a big money ad campaign, that will be looked at through a microscope if first week sales arent 500,000 or better.

If it comes out lowkey,  create a buzz instore and through radio chat...let the radio play songs....its Xmasshopping season....play new stuff on tour...let the album sell 20,000 week 1, then 50,000 week 2, 100,000 week 3 and so on and so on. Keep the singles coming, keep the tour online, do TV shows like Conan, Daly SHow, Letterman, SNL and whatever else

I called again today and another guy from the cd dept.  told me the same thing as the guy last week said.  It is not in our computers but we are told the last week of Nov. or 1st week of Dec. is when Chin. Dem. is coming out.  He said the label could not make up their mind on what date to put it out.  Is this really a coincidence that two diff. people from Best Buy have told me this?

I wonder how he knows the label is trying to figure out which date to put it out on?  I wonder if they're going to do some quick promotion....

I REALLY wish the music store employees would "Use Some Illusion" and look for releases of unrecognizable names, but being a large order  :smoking:

                On a funny note a few posters on Youtube feel the album will be released on Nov.21st.
