I hate to sound like a total fangirl here, but what the hell, I am....

I'm going to see the band in Newcastle soon and from reading the boards I know a lot of you guys have managed to get to say hi to the band pre or post gig.?

Just wondering if anyone had any tips on best ways to go about meeting them?? Even advice on which band members are most approachable and warnings of anyone I shouldn't approach!? And for the super elite...how did you go about getting into the aftershow parties??


I know we all get excited about meeting Axl or any other band member but let's just try to keep it more organised. Having 4 threads in the main section about the same topic is kinda useless, so please post your own personal story here. .- Ignatius.

Ron is the easiest and he is the easiest to find after the show. Axl is the hardest to approach

From concerts, I have been to not just GNR, you have to wear the sexiest most reveling clothes possible, and interect in the between acts, boob-flashing. If you can handle doing that and you get noticed by the right guy, more than likely you will be going backstage.
I just dont understand why I can never go backstage? Maybe its for the fact I'm a man with a hairy chest. :hihi:

Anyways, just go to the show and be thankful you had the opportunity to see this band jam. If you however get to see one of the members take that as a perk. Somtimes the best things happen in life when you least espect them.

It's funny, people really want to meet them ane yet, has anyone wondered  :

Would you even LIKE them if you met them ?

Who knows?  Point is, I'd like to have the chance to find that out!

I am totally with you when you say just be grateful to see the band, and believe me, I am :)  I've seen them 3 times now and I never stop being fucking grateful that they're up there doing what they're doing :D  Just gonna try, if I can to get one of those perks you're talking about!  I won't be disappointed if I don't get to meet them, it'd just be nice, is all.

I didn't really get to me any band members at the show I went to on May 15th at Hammerstein.  But Robin Finck went crowd surfing rightover me so that was more than I expected.  Just enjoy the show and maybe you'll get lucky and meet some of the members.

C'mon, of course I know that!  I'm not going to be bothered if I don't meet the band, I'll enjoy the show and have an excellent time anyway.  I'm not some fucking groupie who won't relax till she's seen the inside of Axl's hotpants! 

The music is what matters to me and if I get chance to meet those who provide me with it, then great.  If not, I won't lose any sleep over it. 

I've always wondered if the people who meet the band, do so in the arena, outside or at a pub after the show. Anyone know?

And that, is exactly what I'm asking here!  Just for hints and tips on meeting them if I so desire...not to be kinda patted on the head and told that I should just concentrate on having a good time - which, incidentally, I totally intend to do anyway :D 

So yeah, people...if you have met the band, how did you go about doing it?  Was it pure chance or did you hang around anywhere specific? 

Met Robin while sightseeing in Lisbon and also met him while I was waiting for the emo bands to end their sets at Download....

Bumblefoot was outside the Hammersmith Apollo signing autographs, posing for photos and feeding hungry fans.

I had one to give to Tommy Stinson when he played in Atlanta (solo tour..not with GNR but he was a member of GNR) and the venue was a bar so no security also helped.

But if you show up at an afterparty and the band shows up and you want to get a "one on one" for a minute...have a simple gift ready....such as I gave Tommy a coffee mug and a shirt from my city and he loved it and we talked for a while ;)

2 words for you:  stage door.  It worked for me!  Also, as far as after parties, from personal experience, I would have to say 50% gossip/groupie/stalking behavior, 50% dumb luck.  I'm sure you'll have fun no matter what happens (after all, it is a GNR concert), but best of luck to you!   :peace:

This is the problem with big bands, they're harder to meet. 

Stage door.

But pay attention to the guys unloading the gear, chat them up. You never know when you might hear a juicy tid bit about where the band is heading.

It also helps if you hang out with hot chicks. Thats how it worked out for me. One of the girls I was hanging out with over heard the tour manager mention where the band was going, then by dumb luck we noticed axl's SUV pulling up across the street at a different club. We booked it over and got to meet sebastian, axl, dizzy, tommy, and ron. Kid rock was there too but I didn't give two fucks about him when axl was a foot away from me all night.

Sorry to drag this up from god knows what page but my mate really wants to wait at the backstage entrance to get a chance to meet some members of the band (in Birmingham)....does anyone know the best time to do this?...not including after the gig as I have to leave straight away to start a 5 hour journey back home....again I apologize but she's really breathing down my neck about this! :P

To be honest, I wasn't going after a backstage pass at the time, I was too tired and stinky to meet them after a 2 hours concert.

But, guess what! I got an info at about 5 AM on (half of) the band's whereabouts and I got to meet Bubble, Pittman and Tommy in an Athens nightclub!  :)

well as soon as paradise city finnished me and my girlfriend went to the nearest exit, and used logic to find ourway to the back of the arena as soon as possible, we cought up with Ron got his photo and chatted for a while.... this was at sheffield.

i met all the band members back in 1986, on the sunset strip, that was probably the easiest, before they were hugely famous.  I managed to hang out with Axl and band after a 1990 show in Cleveland. 

After the May 17th Hammerstein show, a group of us hung out after the show, at the back door, right across from axl's suv.  we didn't actually "meet" him, but he did walk over and shook hands with us..We touched him, lmao!  I think it's more just a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

I've met Tommy a few times, all of which were at his solo club shows, he's cool as hell and very approachable.  I've been to many of his shows and he always hangs out in the bar with everyone afterwards.  The last show of his i went to, he actually hand picked my t-shirt for me!

I met AXL, Slash and Duff when I was 14  ;D I guess they talked to me cause I was so naive... I remember AXL asking me if I wanted to tell him anything and I replied yes ... I wanna know if you are happy ...   ;D he said he was at his best but I didn' t really believe him  :) then he signed on my jeans  :)

well, i've never had a great rack, lmao, and i've never had trouble meeting anyone, famous or not.  i think some people are just more approachable then others.  and with bands, especially big ones like gnr, being calm and cool is a plus, instead of acting like a squealing groupie.

Agreed.  I think if you act like a groupie and squeal like a groupie and all that crap then that's all the band would think you are...just a mindless groupie who might be good for a fuck but nothing else.  I mean, you might get their attention but for all the wrong reasons, if you ask me.  Personally, I'd rather have the respect of a band than an orgy with them.

I have posted in the past about meeting Buckethead at the Starbuck's at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas in 2001. Last night I was standing in line for the show. I was feeling a little lonely since I was by myself and the line was very long. They delayed opening the doors and I was a little bummed since I had assigned seats in the balcony. I was also feeling a little sad about missing the Buckethead show in Chicago and seeing all my friends there. I found myself standing a few feet from Starbuck's. This nice guy starts talking to me and a few minutes later AXL and BETA walk by the line! It was so cool. Then my new friend Jeff says that his friend secured VIP access and he invited me to go with him. So we go up front and WE GET IN THE FRONT ROW ON THE FLOOR! His friend's date was a super cute girl named Belinda who lives in Vegas. SHe had tipped the bouncer $500 to let us all in! I couldn't believe my good fortune! And Jeff and Greg totally protected me and Belinda from being crushed! It was an amzing show! Bumblefoot did his DON"T CRY solo right in front of me and he smiled at me as I attempted to sing!  Axl is so gorgeous!!!!! I can't wait for tonight!

I met him 5 years ago the morning after the GNR show. He was unmasked and he had recognized me from the front row because I had asked people about giving a present to AXL. HE APPROACHED ME!

I was with  my gf at the Vegas show, first time i was gonna see Guns N Roses, my mos fav band ever, I'd been waiting for that day to arrive for the last 13 years, Im 26.
Anyway, i was on line, by the casino at the Hard rock cafe hotel, and suddenly you could hear people, getting histerical, like the beatlemania!!!! LOL , people screamming, and then i saw security guys comin my way ( i was just standin , waiting for the doors to open) anyway, a lot of people there, and all of the suden I SAW Axl's hair and face, and i was like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!! i told my gf that was right behind me,  FUCK! IS AXL!!!!!!!!  anyway , Axl was wearing really dark black sunglasess, and was with like 4 or 6 bodyguards, i didnt notice too much, my attention was focused on Axl!!!  I could feel the electricity when he was comin my way, is was reaaaaaaaaaally weird!!!!,  finally when he was like 2 mts away from me, i stepped put of the line and amost in front of him, I  Yelled AXL!!!!!! and i Had my Ecuadorian flag in my left hand, and he saw me, and shook my right hand, and moved his head like a "nice to meet you" kinda thing,  he didnt say anything, of course! this happened in like 3 or 4 seconds,  but friends, he shooked my haaaaaaaand!!! I couldnt believe it , I've been on a natural high all this weekend, including today  monday, but i wanted to share this little story with you guys, and letting you know great, and surreal shaking God's hand felt.  I feel like suicide!

Thanks everyone for understand my exictement, I mean, it was really something, I had been waiting  like 13 years  for that moment to arise and it finally happened, now i can die easy  :nervous:

I mean I went off when i found out my guitar teacher when out drinking with slash once...and that was just like me going off by proxy and association  :rofl:

 After my amazing experience on Saturday I was even more blown away on Sunday. I decided to get in line at 4:30pm so that I could be in front again. I met some really cool people and we were all great about holding our spots in line for bathroom breaks. I go to the bathroom and I decide to go to the little snack shop near Starbuck's for some pretzels . I am walking by the JOint and who do I see but Del James! So I say, "Excuse me but are you Del James?" He says " YES I am." I then proceed to tell him what a great writer he is, that I think he is a modern day Charles Dickens,, and He say no he isn't and I say Yes he is, and that I loved his story about the drug addict in The Language of Fear. He holds my hand and asks my name. I say Annie and that he should write a screenplay of GUNSNROSES CHRISTMAS CAROL and that Axl could play Scrooge. He laughs and then I say that I didn't want to take up more of his time and that it was a dream come true for me to meet him, and that NOVEMBER RAIN is my all time favorite. I can't believe that I met Axl's best friend!!! A little while laTER  Dizzy walks by the line and I shriek Dizzy and freak him out. It was pretty funny. I managed to get up front again and both Ron Thal and Robin Finck smile at me during the concert. I even get to touch both of their guitars! It was simply amazing! :hihi:

My guitar teacher said he lived right next door to, or very close to GNR back in the 80s.  I don't know if it was the Hell House or not, but I still like to go around saying that to people.  He said that he was kinda wishy-washy about them at first, but then his friends took him to one of the small clubs they were playing at, and he was like "Whoa!" after that.  He also said he was always afraid someone was gonna end up dying.   :hihi:

I saw Del James on Saturday afternoon at the Hard Rock with a luggage cart.   But I didn't approach him.

I did approach Robin Finck however and he was a real stand up guy  8)

I briefly met Dizzy Reed in a backstage party and saw Axl leaving the backstage area in July. It was very cool. :peace:

I love your story DEAD HORSE! I also got to chat with some of the band members but when I finally got Axl's attention....after the conversation was done I turned around and the waterworks started! And I felt  that "MY LIFE IS NOW COMPLETE!"- and didn't wash my hand after shaking his all night....then proceded to get drunk and forgot ....and my AXL germs went down the drain in New Yorks scummy bar bathroom!

I'm a student at the Danish School of Journalism, and I'm working on a portrait piece on Axl.

I'm looking for people who's actually met him, and preferably more than just shaken his hand or gotten an autograph. (Which I haven't, and it's ultra cool if you have - but I can't use that as source material for my piece.)

So tell me and everyone else about your stories and your impression with him - as a person, rather than as a singer and leader of GN'R. I don't care if you met him in 1986, 1991 or 2006. Any time, anywhere is awesome.

I'd say meeting Bumblefoot is your best bet. He was just standing on the side of the stage talking to a couple fans that stucks around when I saw them in Tampa. Really humble and nice. So, try just sticking around for a bit.

Yeah Ron is your best bet. Baz ain't GN'R, but he was also pretty friendly to me in Tampa.

Ofcourse I'd love to meet the whole band, but if I can work out anything when they get here in a few weeks I'd love to meet Ron, Robin, Baz and ofcourse Axl.

As someone posted its about chance and luck! And I got lucky. Met Ron, Robin, Dizzy, Del, Frank, Tommy, Chris and Beta in Chicago Nov. 2006. They all were very sweet and took time to talk and take pics with my friends and I. I actually got two hugs from Robin. For thoughts of you out there dissing Robin, not cool. He is one of the sweetest people I have ever incountered. What a trully magical night.
