Title: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: pasnow on November 08, 2006, 12:55:08 PM Just anounced on CNN.
EDIT: SLCPunk I think you beat me to posting this, you posted it in the Election Day thread. I didn't see it at the time so I figured I'd give it it's own thread. Just wanted to give credit where credit is due. :peace: : ok: Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: Guns N RockMusic on November 08, 2006, 01:30:49 PM I see this. Probably for the best.

Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: SLCPUNK on November 08, 2006, 01:49:02 PM whats hes resinging? "Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, GOOD BYE." Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: pasnow on November 08, 2006, 02:06:40 PM I heard on CNN the REPUBLICANS had more to do with him resigning than the democrats. Which is an interesting school of thought. Apparently, they said, the Repubs were soo upset they lost soo many of the close races and majority in the House & Senate, that they are the one's who ended up calling for his resignation.

Apparently, they said, the Repubs were soo upset they lost soo many of the close races and majority in the House & Senate, that they are the one's who ended up calling for his resignation. Indirectly, I think they're right. The fact is, the dems were going to force him out.? And, for the Repubs, which reflects better on the party?? His resignation or him getting booted to the curb, more or less, through dem pressure. And NOBODY on the Repub side of the aisle wants Rummy answering the tough questions in front of a dem controlled legislature. That would disastrous for them. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: The Dog on November 08, 2006, 02:14:34 PM Yeah but todays resignation kinda doesn't jive with Bush saying only a week ago (even less?) that Rummy would be the Sec of Def through the rest of his term no matter what. For him to say that with EVERYONE predicting a Democratic house on November 8th is just really odd. Its a dramatic reversal.
Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: The Dog on November 08, 2006, 02:17:34 PM whats hes resinging? "Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, GOOD BYE." You sure? I heard it was "hit the road jack, and don't ya come back no more no more no more NO MORE" Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: Bill 213 on November 08, 2006, 02:28:29 PM Hallelujah.......all I can say is finally. Robert Gates isn't that great of choice either. He's just another Bush family crony who's had a history of shadiness with the Iran-Contra scandal.

For him to say that with EVERYONE predicting a Democratic house on November 8th is just really odd. Its a dramatic reversal. There has been inside pressure (and most recently exterior) on bush to get rid of Rumsfeld for sometime now. After last night, he does not have a choice. The days of "with us or against us" is over. He has to at least appear to be making changes (this is just as much on 08 move as anything else) away from his stubborn ways. Also, now that the Dems are in power the investigations will be under way, Rummy is a huge liability for them. Adios. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: Doc Emmett Brown on November 08, 2006, 02:40:00 PM Also, now that the Dems are in power the investigations will be under way, Rummy is a huge liability for them. Adios. yeah they need to move forward on that. Not too long ago, there were a lot of news stories about Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation of Rove/Rummy/Niger and yellowcake, but then people moved on to Foley and other scandals. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: The Dog on November 08, 2006, 02:44:54 PM Hallelujah.......all I can say is finally. Robert Gates isn't that great of choice either. Hmmm, the VA race just got even MORE interesting :) Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: TAP on November 08, 2006, 03:13:27 PM Robert Gates isn't that great of choice either. Post by: Surfrider on November 08, 2006, 03:16:33 PM He should pull a Sandy Burger move and stuff classified documents into his socks and underwear and try to sneak out of the archives.
In all seriousness, anyone have any thoughts on who the replacement will be. What a huge position to open up. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: pasnow on November 08, 2006, 03:24:33 PM He should pull a Sandy Burger move and stuff classified documents into his socks and underwear and try to sneak out of the archives.? In all seriousness, anyone have any thoughts on who the replacement will be.? What a huge position to open up. The first part was funny.. As for the second, they already announced it, a Robert Gates, former head of CIA from 91-93 (Under Bush's dad). Most recently head of Texas A&M university (Hmmmmm Texas anyone?!).? ??? Not sure how that qualifies him but I suppose the first part does a little bit. I'll give him a fair shot with a wait & see attitude before I judge. Hopefully he's better in press conferences than Rumsfeld & Tony Snow.? I think mostly he was involved somewhat in the first Gulf War, so they're looking to draw upon his input from that experience. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: Bud Fox on November 08, 2006, 03:37:50 PM This is an indication that Cheney's days are over and Daddy Bush is now calling the shots. Robert Gates is a Daddy Bush stooge who steps in to clean up Jr's messes.

Does the senate have to approve this change?? Hmmm, the VA race just got even MORE interesting :) The outgoing Senate will have a confirmation hearing to accept it. I agree with Webb, who wants the incoming Senate to do the hearing. I'm pretty sure Gates will be confirmed and get the position. Then he'll start his web of deceit just like he spun in the 80's under the Reagan Administration. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on November 08, 2006, 10:58:21 PM Good ol' Rummy, stickin' by his boss right to the bitter end. Did everybody here catch the press conference with Bush, Gates, and Rummy? He still thinks 25 years down the road, historians will look glowingly back at this administration's policies......I want what he's smokin'! :hihi:

Diddnt Rumsfeld try to resign 2 seperate occasions in the past & Bush would not let him? I think the Democrats realize now that they have power they have to accomplish something with it since 2008 is not far away. This is a good thing for the USA. People will have to work together, that hasnt happened in awhile. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! He had a set of very vocal critics, mostly in regards to his economic policy (which GW's daddy can probably thank for his short stay in office) but his administration had nowhere near the number of blunders we're seeing here. And Reagan's foriegn policy was lauded even by his most vocal critics. As for Bush announcing earlier...it's a double edged sword.? On one hand, you get the "Look, I'm trying to do something here so vote for our party..." positive spin.? On the other you get both the "It's a calculated move to influence the elections" and the "He's admitting he's made a mistake" bad press.? It would have been risky.? Waiting makes him look a lttle bit conciliatory, regardless if the process started days before the election (to me, that just shows they saw the writing was on the wall) or not.? Maybe, just maybe, it buys him a bit of political capital with the incoming legislature, too. Do you all realize that EVERY state that Bush campaigned in....the repubs lost the race.? Owch... Reagan helped end the cold war, so he'll always have that associated with him in the history books. He was the last president we had that went out of office with a very high approval rating. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Post by: GeraldFord on November 09, 2006, 10:18:02 AM Clinton left office in the 60s I believe, not sure about Reagan.
And I refute any claim that says Reagan ended the Cold War. The USSR fell because for years they tried to have guns and butter, they were overextended, and fell apart. I know that "tear down this wall" is a good soundbyte and all, but the USSR would have fallen no matter who was in the oval office, Nixon said as much in the early 90s. Title: Re: Rumsfeld Resings!!! Owch... i'm assuming you're joking about liberals liking reagan's foreign policy. i was only in grade school but i remember thinking we were gonna get attacked by a nuclear bomb becuase of liberal scare tactics. and there was a study by historians that ranked reagan as the 10th best prez of all time.
