He was the singer for Blind Melon (then an unknown band). I think he was from the same town in Indiana as Axl & Axl liked his voice... He sang on the studio version & is credited in the liner notes. I don't think they were the same year. I think Shannon was a few years younger. Wikipedia says his sister was friends with Axl.
