Title: Rocket Queen: Greatest ending to a song
Post by: GNR4L on November 05, 2006, 10:45:38 PM
You can argue that Rocket Queen has the greatest ending in the history of any song.  I SEE YOU STANDING, STANDING ALL ON YOUR OWN ITS SUCH A LONELY PLACE FOR YOU TO BE.  Then my favorite DON'T EVER LEAVE ME SAY YOU ALWAYS BE THERE ALL I WANTED WAS FOR YOU TO KNOW THAT I CARE.  With Slash and Izzy on guitar and Adler with the incredible drumming its just a masterpiece.

Agreed. Locomotive comes close though.

I'm absolutly convinced that the best ending of a GNR song is There Was A Time, and Coma, from 87-93.

I consider TWAT as one of the best GNR tracks of all eras, and its funny cause Im talking about a demo 128kbps mp3 file

I agree.  That's my favorite part of AFD.

I love the ending of RQ, it's absolutely stunning, BUT I prefer the ending to Paradise City.

Anyway, they are both amazing tracks.

Welcome to the Jungle with possibly the greatest intro opens up the album, and this masterpiece closes it.

Although I'd have to say that in the right mood, Coma has the best outro.

"There Was A Time", definitely, I agree completely with you estebanf. The two versions of it, the 1999 demo and the 'newer' demo, fucking amazing. I love the buildup of the solos and its just a wash of sound that drags you in, almost hypnotic. I have seriously gone for almost half a day with that one song on repeat. The album version is going to be devastating. -ly good that is

The ending to "Rocket Queen" does it for me. There Was a Time second. The others are great too, though.

I have seriously gone for almost half a day with that one song on repeat.

Me too man, I spent hours and hours with that song in repeat, the chorus is magnetic, simply outstanding. Buckethead's guitar solo is flawless, very soulful, and it shuts all those mouthes that say that a shredder cant play with ''feeling''

The album version is going to be devastating

The album version will be killer. That song is gonna be a massive hit.

Come on guys im talking about greatest ending songs of all time not GNR songs.  TWAT is a leak and your saying it has a better ending than Rocket Queen im sorry but when a song that is almost 20 yrs old and compare it to a leak gimme a break.

Smoke a joint, listen to TWAT, then come back here. You can't, because you will be spasming on the floor from multiple orgasms. That, and the Blues is the closest I've ever been to any higher power.

The closing 2 stanzas of "Jungleland" by Bruce Springsteen.

Beneath the city two hearts beat
Soul engines running through a night so tender in a bedroom locked
In whispers of soft refusal and then surrender in the tunnels uptown
The Rat's own dream guns him down as shots echo down them hallways in the night
No one watches when the ambulance pulls away
Or as the girl shuts out the bedroom light

Outside the street's on fire in a real death waltz
Between flesh and what's fantasy and the poets down here
Don't write nothing at all, they just stand back and let it all be
And in the quick of the night they reach for their moment
And try to make an honest stand but they wind up wounded, not even dead
Tonight in Jungleland

Also the closing lines to one of the greatest albums of all time:  "Born to Run."
As with AFD, there is one of the best written songs of all time, Thunder Road, that opens the album.  Not expecting to get much joining in agreement on this, just my two cents.  Released in 1975...eeeeekkkk

I would say Coma had the greatest ending, and after that the Estranged ending.

But Rocket Queen has gotta be up there in the Top-5 of GN'R endings.

hmm, i think my favourites are:
1.rocket queen
2. coma
3. locomotive
4.estranged
i think the ending of RQ are among one of the greatest part of all songs ever, from about 3.26 into the song til the end..
in coma i think from 7.55 into the song till the end is the best starting from "but who am i to tell you that i've seen....." in locomotive i love the piano and "love's so strange" and estranged, well yeah great song and the end is also great. the blues ending is also good

Good, so I'm not the only one!  Once I started singing along to the demo, I realized that it was one of the best GNR tracks I'd ever heard.

Welcome to the Jungle with possibly the greatest intro opens up the album, and this masterpiece closes it.

Although I'd have to say that in the right mood, Coma has the best outro.

Agreed on both counts.  Right Next Door To Hell is an awesome opener, and Coma closes the album perfectly.

My favorite endings in no order:

Rocket Queen - There's a reason it's one of my favorite songs to sing.
Don't Damn Me - Slash's guitar work is amazing.
Coma - Every time I sing the "just to surviveeeee" part, I can't help but get choked up.
Locomotive - Love's so strange.  ;D
Breakdown - I've always liked the piano bit right before it ends.

Rocket Queen is probably my favourite GNR song, and the outro just makes it that much better.

Part of what makes Rocket Queen's outro so strong is how effictively it closes the album.  It's definitely one of the greatest final songs on any album.

You can argue that Rocket Queen has the greatest ending in the history of any song.? I SEE YOU STANDING, STANDING ALL ON YOUR OWN ITS SUCH A LONELY PLACE FOR YOU TO BE.? Then my favorite DON'T EVER LEAVE ME SAY YOU ALWAYS BE THERE ALL I WANTED WAS FOR YOU TO KNOW THAT I CARE.? With Slash and Izzy on guitar and Adler with the incredible drumming its just a masterpiece.

That's why it fits to be the last song to close the Appetite album. There'd be no other suitable way to do it. Just my two cents...

Almost all of the endings of the songs everyone mentioned has a very significant speed tempo reduction and have meaningful lyrics that sink into you. They basically grab you by the balls and won't let go until the song is done.  :hihi:
